Now, while I'm sure there are topics quite similar to this one, I'm hoping none are exactly like this one. Let me explain what I mean by the topic title.
First of all, read the topic title carefully. What it's asking is, if it's discovered that there really are people who have super powers, what is/are your's most likely to be, and why?
I'll start out my saying my most likely one is editic memory, like Charlie's. Reason being is that I have an excellent memory. Also, something that could border into that realm is my spelling and grammar capabilities, as I'm a stickler for good spelling and grammar.
Another possibly ability for me is mimicry. I tend to be able to very easily tell what kind of mood a person is in (permitting I'm relatively close to them). I also sometimes end up feeling that emotion too.
Top of my list, empathic mimicry, emphasis on "empathic". It doesn't take much to send me into tears or laughing hysterically. Seeing people go through various emotions is hard for me. If people are laughing around me, I'll find myself laughing to the point of tears, even if I have no idea what they're laughing about. Same with crying. I can't watch horror films because of this. I'll almost start to feel their pain if it's a slasher flick. [/end rant]
The next possibility is precognitive dreaming, just because it's actually happened to me. Very, very long story.
Last, mind reading. That's more wishful thinking, but you could say I can read my best friend's mind all the time.
I can't decide on just one, so I'll just stick to the possibilities...

That must suck.

I knew there was one I missed. I'm constantly having precognitive dreams. I hate the deja vu feeling to, and lately I've been having it a lot.

I'm by no means restricting people to only one. If you think you've got 20, post them. I don't know about everyone else, but I'm interested to read what they are and how you feel they're true with you.
I think everyone has some empathy, because we're wired that way. But definitely some have more than others.
I can't watch slasher movies either. I can separate them from reality intellectually, but I'm sort of traumatized for a couple of days. Or a couple of weeks.
If I could choose an ability it would probably be one of these: the ability to make plants grow, flight, healing (other people - Claire's power is great but I just don't find appeal in being able to put my hand in a garbage disposal), anything to do with water...
I have a good memory in some ways, but I think of it more like being double-jointed than having a special ability. I can memorize numbers or words (like when learning a language) pretty easily, but I have trouble finding my car in a parking lot, and I have a real tendency to forget things I need to bring along somewhere.
I'm the first to say there are all kinds of reasons these weren't real, or at least can't be proven, but there are three things I've felt like I had when I was a kid. Short list: dowsing, dream prediction of family deaths, and the last one resembled clairvoyance or mind-reading.
1. My father and grandfather showed me how to dowse with L-shaped iron rods, and it was a kick to feel them turning in my hands. We did it at the garage where they worked, and the rods turned when one of us walked over the drain pipe under the floor. At the time I thought that anyone could do it, but my father told me later he's not sure about that. I've thought about trying it again just for kicks in the apartment parking lot, but I'm a little worried what the neighbors will think.
2. For a while when I was in my mid to late teens, it seemed like every time I dreamed of a death or a dead body, within a few weeks, a relative would die. Who died had no relation to who died in the dream - I just woke up knowing someone was going to die. This was information I preferred not have, and I sort of wished it away. My mother's mother says she hears knocking in the walls before someone dies.
3. When I was a kid, we used to play a game on stairs in which one person holds a small object in either hand, and players have to guess which hand it was in (if you're right, you advance one step, and it's sort of a race). I guessed pretty well if I could touch the other person for a few seconds, enough that people stopped letting me touch them or even make eye contact while playing.
So actually, I now believe these abilities were about two-thirds imagination, but at the time, I thought they were real. For example, I don't remember the dream which predicted my grandmother's death. It should have made an impression, since she was the person closest to me who died during that time. I just remember knowing that any time I dreamed about death, there was going to be one, and that for a while all family deaths were preceded by a dream. But now I'm not so sure that EVERY death was preceded by a dream.

I can't match up to your death dreams...but I do have one freaky coincidence under my belt. (And yes, this is just a coincidence. I'm no Miss Cleo. )
Summer of 2000. I'm about to start high school, and since I can't drive, I'm stuck at my grandmother's all summer. I spent my days bored out of my mind, and my only entertainment was Jenny Jones, Montel Williams, and soap operas (she had no cable. ). But still, I loved my grandparents to death.
Anywho, one day, randomly, I look around and go, "Wow, you know, this isn't going to last forever. My grandparents are going to die at some point."
When my mom passed by to pick me up that same day, and my grandmother shows her that this lump is developing under the skin on her arm (unbeknownst to me at the time...I found this all out later). My mom suggested she go see a doctor.
My grandmother was diagnosed with melanoma, which had already metastisized to several parts of her body. She had been in remission from her original diagnosis for about 25 years.
She died that December. My grandfather lost all contact with reality, and died the next July.
Needless to say, I no longer go "gee, so-and-so is going to die at some point." I'm not about to tempt fate again.
And don't get me started on my "precog" dreams. We'll be here all week, because that involves delving even deeper into my personal life, and I doubt any of you guys are ready for that snooze-fest.
I've always wanted to either be able to Fly or be Invisible. I'd be happy with either of those.
This topic isn't about what powers you wish you had. It's about what powers you would have if powers were real.

If you're willing to type it out, I'm willing to read it.
Ugh, you people. It's not a topic for what power you'd like to have, it's for what powers you could possibly have if powers were real.
Mods, is there any way you could change the topic title for me?
If so, could you change it to "If Powers Were Real, Which Ones Would You Have". Thanks
Done,
