Oh and to update on the LOST situation (OT, I know, but not completely), Ausiello is reporting that if the strike lasts long, LOST might get delayed til Fall 2008 or even February 2009. It's all up to the head honcho at ABC.

No Heroes, no LOST, no good TV? Meh, my TV really will be turned off once the new episodes run out.

Start negotiating again, writers and producers! Jeez! Now I'm miffed.

I'm willing to suffer through some reruns myself
if it means supporting the amazing writers on Heroes.
After all, they are the guys who keep us guessing
on the Theories and Spoilers pages.

LOST will air on schedule, but only the 8 episodes that have been taped so far!
Also, Damon Lindelof defends Tim Kring and Heroes:
Kristin's Interview with Damon Lindelof

(how's that for getting back on topic? lol)

Another update:

NBC fired the non-writing crew from The Office, and has threatened to fire the crew from The Tonight Show if Jay Leno doesn't cross the picket line and start taping again by the end of the week.

What are they going to tape without writers? NBC is getting just plain nasty.

They better keep their grubby paws off our Heroes, though! Harumph. club

Edit: Here's the article about The Office, and here's the article about the Tonight Show. Apparently, Late Night with Conan O'Brien is also included in the Tonight Show's deadline. This is just ugly.

The writers deserve every penny they are striking for.

Screw the networks and their "new media" bs.

Good luck, scribes.

ok.... what is the problem? Everybody wants to make more money. This is a given. How people choose to make more money is up to them. GOB BLESS AMERICA and the SPIRIT OF CAPITALISM. Now, these poor writers who can't afford to pay their rent, what should they do? -OR- Can they actually afford to pay their rent and buy groceries? I don't know. I'm not an authority on the subject, but I do have an opinion which can be swayed either way depending on the facts. So.... in a twisted sense; as Cuba Gooding Jr. semi-said in Jerry Maguire, "Show me the Money!!! (a.k.a numbers baby) Just explain in laymans terms what exactly is going on here? hunh? Come again?

Do you job. Do it well... and you will make money. If you do your job well and you don't make the money you want; Get another job making better money. Capitalism...... Capitalism.... Supply & Demand..... GO FOR IT.... The market is yours. But, if you have 8 thousand writers waiting to fill you post. (talented they must be) Then do whatever it takes. WHO the hell is mistreating the writers? Maybe I don't get it? Not sure, but I would like a little bit of detail to sort everything out. Perhaps the writers have a point, but the public has not truely been made aware of it. hmmmmmm...... Let justice be done and please let the creativity of Heroes live on.....

GOD BLESS HEROES ! (In whichever form they may come.)

the thing is that they AREN'T getting paid for work they are doing. (basically anything DVD or web related, they are getting totally shafted on)

Imagine if you worked for Mcdonalds and got paid regularly when you worked at the register, but less than minimum wage for drive-thru. Its the same work, essentially, but because its a different area of work you get paid less? Ish don't think so!

that was an awful analogy...

Gob Bless America. Very Happy

So in case you haven't heard, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) is on strike. They are striking, of course, for more money. They receive $.04 is residuals per DVD and they want that doubled, plus they want something residuals for shows aired on 'new media', such as iPod and online. The studios claim that the WGAs demands would actually harm new media growth...

^ That's the situation in a nutshell, Jock. The studios refuse to compensate the writers when they (the studios) are still making money off of things like iTunes downloads and the advertisements shown when shows are played on their websites. The writers want their share, and the studios don't want to cave in. And a lot of people, including their viewers, are caught in the crossfire. Many non-writing crew members have already lost their jobs, like I posted above.

There were a couple of articles I read once on what true Hollywood writers make in a year. Let me tell you something, it is not much.

BTW, my brother used to be a member of that "Hollywood Scene" and I knew a "writer" or two in my time. It's hard to brake into that market, but once you do it, you're not guaranteed anything. So residuals, is the name of the game.

Sure, good writers, and those who have made it or are with the same show for a couple of years or more can make some serious amount of money, but again, you can always be replaced with younger, fresher talent. And isn't that the awful truth in any job today? Heck, I fear for my job security where I am.

So no, I don't hate the "Writer's Guild" for what they are doing, and what they are trying to accomplish. Sure some writers are rich. But not all of them. The studio executives are the sharks in this business.
