It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature.
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. See, this is what happens when you release your product without beta testing. |

Time for this Topic to get a bump..... (I think this would be a great place to discuss all our Virus Theories and Spoilers!)
I was going to start a new thread, but it's completely unnecessary, right?
So, in watching Episode # 7 ("Out of Time"), did anyone else wonder how the Shanti virus mutated or what caused it to mutate?
I have a guess:
Bob the Alchemist DID IT! What else could have happened?
And if Niki dies while she's carrying it, how does Nathan become Patient Zero? |
Bob could have been the one to mutate it but that seems like a lack of control on his part if he cant' even read the properties to create the antidote himself. A bad alchemist if you ask me..
Nathan wasn't patient zero...you go that term from Chandra about Sylar. Nathan was just said to die in the first wave of the outbreak. Probaly beacuse he's close to the source of where the outbreak started.. The company... |

Apparently, this virus is also highly contagious. Maybe the virus that they dealt with in the future isn't the same virus that Mohinder's having problems with right now, but one of the strains in the lab IS the virulent strain that they can't control.
I'd also venture that this new strain is also able to make humans susceptible as well, thus it doesn't distinguish between "normal" or "evolved" human kind, it just attacks Homo Sapiens.
It might not even be Bob that's behind this. After all, some testing subjects have gotten away from labs before, and caused minor epidemics. The company just really had no idea how quickly this strain of virus would travel, or how quickly it would incubate and do it's dirty work.
Poor planning, poor containment, and even worse judgement in keeping the virus around. |

| I think it's just 'evolution' that caused a new strain of the Shanti virus to manifest. |

I would have to agree...after all, look at the 'Superbug' we are seeing right now. It is a staph infection that has become immune to antibiotics.
Why couldn't the Shanti Virus have the same properties (ie able to evolve to a Superbug)? |

Doesn't Bob say they modified the virus themselves? The new strain could be developing on it's own, but we have no indication that it has happened yet. We only know it was lob modified.
Mohinder was worried about this exact thing happening when he was asked to inject Monica (have the virus jump to normal humans and kill them). The smart man was right once again, But of course, nobody listened. |

| I doubt that. It seems to me that all of the 12 founders have an elite level of control and understanding when it comes to their powers. I have a feeling Bob can do a lot more than turn things to gold, just like Maury can do a lot more than read minds and Linderman could do a lot more than give life back to wilted flowers. |

A: there is no such thing as "a Midas". Midas was the name of the king who could turn things to gold. He wasn't "a Midas". And beyond semantics...
B. That ISNT it. Go read Behind the Eclipse and see if the WRITERS OF THE SHOW think that is all he can do. They seem to think otherwise, but, nah, you probably know better...
Bob did indeed tell Mohinder they modified the virus themselves as far as my recollection goes. |
