Didn't Tim Kring comment about duplicate powers at one point? We've seen it with flying already. Couldn't Alejandro's ability simply be the same as the Haitian's and not specific to his sisters ability?
Definitely a possibility - one that I very much like!
It's just that having a second virus/cure doesn't set well with me. Not that it isn't plausible, it just seems...I don't know... off to me with the whole Molly/Mohinder thing having happened already.
Your theory, JJ, is a good one in that it is simple and easy for audiences everywhere to understand, as opposed to some other means of him negating Maya's ability, which is my reason for liking it and it goes along with what Kring said about duplicate powers possibly showing up.
by tonight i think they are making it more towards specifically maya's ability. he seemed to absorb her power from her and undo it. unless he can apply it to other powers which could be pretty interesting but dont know how it would practically work with other powers. he did seem to have a good control of what was going on though. im still not really into those characters yet though. maya is good to look at but thats it. everytime they have screen time i find myself sayin move on. i can foresee her power being useful to kill someone probably the wttb as they have pretty much made it clear that her power can "kill the devil" ha. kind of blatant with it but they havnt gotten me to want to know what happens next to them. some1 like peter is gonna absorb her power or they r gonna set up her using it against some1 blah blah blah but their characters seem to be lacking something for me.
I know what you're saying though. The point is that she's pretty powerful. I think what will happen is this: Sinister forces will get her, and she will become a pawn in the greater Season 2 plotline.
not really, she just needs to take some rolls n be happy! im thinkin more along the lines of being a pawn of the good side to kill someone really bad and powerful. if they use her for bad than its again kind of like the meltdown last season and will be a massive cryathon. if she gets shot or something then there would be like a black flood. she would be too much like ted in that aspect. i just hope they start gettin creative with them fast because I don't see much else going on for them other than this repeated cycle of her getting emotional and killing people and him trying to calm her down. this isnt some lame abc drama. (not talkin bout lost, i love that show, but all their other crap shows)
This time they showed us more about how Alejandro stops it.
As far as we know now, there is no cure for Maya in NYC. Maybe Mohinder will learn something about Molly's virus that will enable him to shut down Maya's power without killing her.
Alejandro's power reminded me of the Green Mile. I don't think we'll see his power limited to just maya's plague if he survives long enough for us to see it. I think he can just take a sickness into himself and then destroy it inside of him. The fact that the woman awoke after being afflicted is because maya's sadness is what brings it, and it was taken away by alejandro. I don't think it will be lame if they explore that some more.
I think the emphasis on his ability is that he absorbs it, which REALLY gets me thinking... hmmm...
You know what it reminded me of?
In "Landslide" when Peter absorbs Ted's power, and then takes control of it.
It looked like Alejandro absorbed Maya's power and took control of it.
Maybe Alejandro is an empath who can control his abilities.
Part of Maya's ability has to do with the spread of it, so maybe Alejandro can control and reverse the spread of the black poison.
The difference is that when Peter absorbed Ted's ability, Ted wasn't going nuclear. We physically see him stop her, AND cure the old lady, when he absorbs Maya's disease.

What if 90% humans on earth have super powers, but for a long time in history this virus stopped it from developing. Now in our current time our bodies are begining to overcome this virus and people are popping up everywhere with powers. In 5 years past it is even more obvious that people are beginning to freak out from more and more people having powers. Genetics has a huge play in this in that it appears that all the heroes parents, siblings, uncle, someone directly related to almost all them have powers too. Hence that the virus weakness is also hereditary..
Ok so I was a bit off on the virus thing (pretty darn close). But in a way when I saw the season 2 premier with suresh explaining the virus I was like OMG I thought of that awhile ago.
Here is what is troubling me after watching episode 2. If this virus is now showing its ugly face with the haitian and whatnot and suresh finding out so quickly what the virus does (stopping powers and killing) then how is it that in 5 years past, there is no fear of this virus and suresh could not find a way to "cure" others?
Anyways I have a lot more thoughts still just hard to formulate them in typing, haha.
It's possible that this threat emerged only because the bomb was stopped. Everything has changed because of that, and so, a new threat has emerged. That is why so many people think the bomb had something to do with stopping WTTB, because it seemed like the threat wasn't there in the future. So IMO, things would have been a lot different had the bomb gone off.

Season 2 so far has been fun.
I think I need you to elaborate.
The main thing I see in common between your theory and what we have now is the virus which can suppress a special ability. But the virus we have on the show only infects people with special abilities, people with special abilities manifest their powers before infection (that is, if genetic resistance to the virus is necessary for powers to manifest, then someone who has already demonstrated powers shouldn't be able to get sick from it), and those infected die without treatment. There's a possible match if the virus suppresses your power without killing you if you get it before your power manifests. But I didn't see a strong similarity between the theory and how the story worked out.
The question about why the virus wasn't a factor in Five Years Gone is good. My best explanation is the same as Alucard's: when the pivotal event of the explosion was changed, there were a huge number of differences in what happened next. The Haitian, Molly, and Shanti are the only known cases. People doing different things or going different places after the explosion would have changed how and where the disease spread.
If the virus stays around as long as I think it will, perhaps the writers will eventually have a human - someone like Mohinder, Ando, or someone else - come down with it, which could support the theory that The Company is infecting specials with the virus (I forget who said something like that, sorry), and if that ends up being true, this is how I think we will find out about it... a human mistakenly infected.
Although, I just really hope they don't go in that direction - injections and what not. This isn't the 4400
