From Wiki:
Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in central Australia, in the Northern Territory. It is located in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, 440 km southwest of Alice Springs. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, the Aboriginal people of the area, and has many springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. It is listed as a World Heritage Area for both its cultural and natural values.
But the interesting part is...Uluru is notable for appearing to change colour as the different light strikes it at different times of the day and year, with sunset a particularly remarkable sight. The rock is made of sandstone infused with minerals like feldspar (Arkosic sandstone) that reflect the red light of sunrise and sunset, making it appear to glow. The rock gets its rust colour from oxidation. Rainfall is uncommon in the area around Uluru , but during wet periods, the rock acquires a silvery-grey colour, with streaks of black algae on the areas serving as channels for water flow.
From The message boards:
"Uluru was haunting Mohinder in his dreams
I think Isaac painted it to represent Mohinder coming to New York.
That while in New York he will have to face his Inner Demon, His haunting".
"the little dude in that comic picture is HIRO not claires adoptive father. Hiro is battling the beast."
"I think [alot of you] may like this. I had searched the forums and even the web but found nothing on it. I wanted to know what was said on the cover of the comic. You see Uluru and the man talking to one another. I did some tinkering with the video on my comp and finally got it to where I could read it. Uluru says: "Who dares to defy me!!
I am ULURU the indestructible." and the man says: "Nobody believed me, now I'm humanity's LAST HOPE!" Maybe this info will change some of how the Uluru theorizing is going"
and the best but harder to digest::
"In aboriginal myth, Uluru, is a gateway to dreamtime. Dreamtime is basically the shamanic state of consciousness employed by aborigine spiritual healers. In this respect, Uluru acts as an axis mundi, or world axis. That knowledge may help us sort out a bit about. Basically, axis mundi are gateways between this world and the spirit world and function as symbols for the path up to the upper realms or down to the lower realms. To use an example from Greek mythology, Mt Olympus and the River Styx are both examples of axis mundi, one going up and one going down. From what I gather, in aborigine myth the Uluru seems to function both ways. They believe it to be hollow with the dreamtime and the souls of the dead residing inside. Also of note is that there is a water hole on top of it. Uluru possessing the consciousness of the dead may be an important factor, as biologically consciessness resides in the brain and someone has been yanking out brains left and right. Not only that but we have the mm wiping memories here and there, which can be seen as stealing a person's being, forcing them to start from scratch.
While I am still thinking and not sleeping, i thought I would run with the dreamtime concept a moment longer. Dreamtime is sort of all time at once. Past, present, and future. One would face a nearly impossible task to find any aboriginal artwork deviod of dreamtime, not to mention that dreamtime is accessed through altered states where the practitioner sees beyond the physical world into the dreaming. I thought I would proffer the concept(albeit abstractly and mainly just to get people's creative juices going) that Issac, accesses the dreamtime to do his paintings anf the Hiro uses it for his time/space abilities. One could even go as far as to apply it to Claire to say the dreamtime returns her to the state she was in berfore her injuries. One could probably find a way that dreamtime could affect all the abilities if they thought on it." _http://boards.nbc.com/nbc/index.php?showuser=179735
Anyone willing to do such extensive research for a show is a real fan. I love shows and such that inspire people to learn more about things they would not otherwise- such as the aboriginal cultures and dreamtime.
