This may sound weird but, before the time of Computers there where mysterious things called Books.
One would acess the infromation tucked inside these devices by opening them and
downloading the information by a technique called READING
Once read the "reader" was transpeoted into a world of imagination and fantasy
my favoriate books would have to be [in no peticular order]
~1984- George Orwells
~Angles & Deamons-Dan Brown
~Eragon- Christopher Panolini
~Real Ultimate Power-Robert Hambuger{sooo frikking hilarious}
~Paradise Lost-John Milton
~The Divine Comedy- Dante Alighieri
Books! Wow! The one thing the internet has yet to expose innocent young minds to.
Love the topic. My faves (no special order) are:
1. Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoevsky
2. Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronté
3. Notes from the Underground - Dostoevsky again
4. Martin the Warrior - Bryan Jacques (First book to ever make me cry)
5. The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
6. Frankenstein - Mary Shelley
I also love the Divine Comedy (specifically the Inferno), and am a fan of Tanya Huff novels. But we could only pick the top six, and those are it.
Also, does the Thesaurus count? 'Cause who doesn't love the Thesaurus?
*Edited because, while I can read, I apparently cannot count.
The Five people you meet in heaven
Tuesdays with Morrie
Lord of the Rings (it's one freakin' book. Not a trilogoy. *grumbles for no apparent reason*)
The Pianist
The Farseer Trilogy
A Song of Ice and Fire series
Eragon - i've just downloaded it, (gonna buy next week but couldn't wait) and not finished yet, but it's super
Harry Potter series
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen
all books from a Hungarian writer called Jenő Rejtő, alias P. Howard or Gibson Lavery - i love his books!!!! they always make me laugh!!!!
okay, only these 4 comes into my mind now... i'll think of it and complete the list
i hated all required readings in school... all of them...
Reading requirements! Boo! I think all they do is get kids to hate reading.
Agreed. I remember being forced to read a bunch of Shakespeare play scripts in Junior High because my teacher was such a fan. She was all like, "I'll point out all of the cleverly hidden humorous allusions, and you all can laugh." And I was like, "Lady, if you have to explain the joke, it ain't funny", but I didn't say that or she'd probably beat me with a ruler.
*is not bitter*
Harry Potter is an obvious fave, (Whoever hates HP is a Deatheater) but I've never read Eragon. Is it as good as I've heard?
Eragon is actually rather good. I was reading the sequel but I had my interest go elsewhere so I have never finished it. And if you've read the right books then there are MANY similarities between them.
I've been meaning to pick up the Eragon Series, but I've got a lot of other books to read for school. Btw, totally agree on hating req reading. I read the same book twice, once outside of school, once in. I don't know what it is, but I hated being forced to read a book. Even worse is when you would never read it.
Anyways, no particular order, maybe:
Catch- 22
Mere Christianity ( I'll add any other CS Lewis while I'm at it)
HP Series (# 6 is my fav for some reason I don't know)
Dante's Inferno
Animorphs (Going old school here)
Anything Dave Berry
I'm putting scriptures (Bible and Book of Mormon, yes I'm LDS) as a special mention because I don't really include them in such lists.
ALL time? If I exclude all the classic literature that I love and the science fiction authors I flock to, that's easy:
* 1. The Cave of Time by Edward Packard
* 2. Journey under the Sea by R. A. Montgomery
* 3. By Balloon to the Sahara by Douglas Terman
* 4. Space and Beyond by R. A. Montgomery
* 5. The Mystery of Chimney Rock by Edward Packard
* 6. Your Code Name Is Jonah by Edward Packard
No books have captured my imagination since like the "Choose Your Own Adventure" series.
my top books
1) Red Dragon by Thomas Harris *
2) The time travelers wife by Audrey Niffenegger **
3) harry potter series/ POA is my fav by J.K. Rowling
4) Dragonlance: Legends Trilogy by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman ***
5) Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
6) Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
* the best tomas harris book ever, i was so scared reading this book I couldn't put it down I litteraly read until 3am.. I felt sorry for Francis Dolarhyde what a turn around for the character, not even close to the movie.
** I must recondend this book it is so genuine with heart felt emotions.
*** I have over 30 of the Dragonlance books and I still haven't read over 70% of them. they are put away safely in a box in my basement. one day I will get to them all and then have to buy another 60 books to catch up.. lol.
1. The Gun Slinger by Stephen King
2.Harry Potter by everyone knows
3.Tommy Knockers by Stephen King
4. Vampire Cornicles by Ann Rice
5. all V. C. Andrews books. loved them when I was a kid
6.Well all the other Stephen King books, I have them all ^_^
Reading requirements! Boo! I think all they do is get kids to hate reading.
I disagree; I read lots of things that I never would have because of required reading. Some of my favorites, like Vonnegut, I wouldn't have gotten to for quite some time if they wouldn't have been required.
That said,
Ender's Game (and the rest of both series, for that matter) -- Orson Scott Card
The Man In The High Castle -- Phillip K. Richard
Slaughterhouse-Five -- Kurt Vonnegut
Slapstick -- Kurt Vonnegut
Probably a dozen different ones by Heinlein, but mostly Job and The Past Through Tomorrow
Meh, I have hated all of my required reading, except one, which I read this semester, Freakonmics... ^+^ but I'm interested in Economics too, so I'm a little weird...
1. Anita Blake Vampire serises by Laurell K. Hamilton
2. Harry Potter (And I wish all those sick HP fanfic people would just stop... some of it is just too disturbing for words)
3. Nerdy Romance Novels by Vicki Lewis Thompson
4. Tamora Pierce, Song of the Lionness Serise, The Immortal Series, and Protector of the Small Serise, each serise is four books so total of 12 :3 but they're short and easy read...
