Here's my newest theory:

The original twelve have the twelve power pools that all others are derived from, and all are very powerful. Their offspring have various versions of these powers derived from the original powers, though not by heredity necessarily (look at Claire being Nathan and Merideth's daughter). Here are possibilities:

We know:
1. Matt's dad: Mind (Matt, Eden, the Haitian, Molly)
2. Charles: Precog (Isaac)
3. Linderman: Healing others/affecting health state (Maya is the negative of this, Alejandro is the positive)
4. Bob: Matter manipulation (DL, the guy who can melt things)

Others possibly:
5. Physical powers (Claire, Kensai, Nikki)
6. Empath (Peter, somebody else according to Claude)
7. Illusion (Claude, Candace)
8. Elemental manipulation (Meredith, the guy who could freeze stuff, Elle, Ted)
9. Intellect/processing (Sylar, Monica, the waitress)
10. Space/time manipulation (Hiro)
11. Technology manipulation (Micah, Hana)
12. Flight/air manipulation (Nathan, West)

So those could be the original 12 abilities, or something like that. Sound like a possibility? I'm not saying these are definitely the original 12 power pools. I'm more giving them as an example of how this theory may work. If you think this could be the case, we can get a better handle on what powers the 12 could have, including Angela and Kaito. I'm thinking Kaito is 9 which gives him the sword ability, he learned it somewhere, and Angela may very well be 6, but what do you think?

Of course if Kaito was a muscle mimic, you'd think he'd put up more of a fight even without a sword?

Also, Kaito may have known that would have been no match for whoever attacked him. Who knows what the killer's power is...

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Angela could very well be an empath. Some examples of possibilities of her using various powers:

1. Perhaps she healed Nathan after the blast and erased his memory of her doing it.
2. She seems to have a strong power of suggestion over the other characters, though this may just be her own personal skill and not a power.
3. I can't help but think her shoplifting had some significance. She may have been invisible, but Claude may have caught her or something like that.
4. Maybe she projected "get out of my head!" into Matt's mind rather than him reading it.
5. I think she was behind some of Peter's dreams, maybe all of them.

Can anyone else think of others?

The only character I'm really not sure about is Charles. He was able to appear in Peter's dreams, but he also had precog aparently. These seem like 2 different abilities to me, so maybe I have him and Angela mixed up. Maybe Angela is the precog and Charles is the empath. Not likely, since it seems to me that Angela has several powers up her sleeve. I think it's more likely that she, not Charles, was behind all of Peter's dreams, and she was using a combination of Charles's precog and Maury's mind/dream abilities. The dreams seemed to be leading Peter to do exactly what Angela wanted him to do.

Why do you think that all people's powers are being derived from these 12 people.

With Kensei having powers in past, and (from the online graphic novels) there was a Vietnamese girl who had the power to grow plants at an excellerated rate, along with a few of Sylar's victims last year being out of the age demographic for them to be children of "the 12" (super hearing lady), I'd say it's pretty nieve of these folks to think of themselves as "the original 12." They're just the first group of "specials" that we know of who banded together "for the greater good."

I don't know if anyone actually thinks these 12 are the first 12 to have powers, because it's obviously not true because of Kensei. I think the name "Original 12" refers to the original people who founded the Company.

I think Led is referring to the types of powers they have being representative of the range of powers specials can have, not that the original 12 are THE original 12 of all specials.

Yeah, obsidian is right. That's what I meant. Though, it does seem that these 12 have attained a mastery of their powers that no other characters in the show have obtained up to this point. So maybe instead of the original 12 they should be the ultimate 12 or something like that.

How about "The Company 12"

It would make far more sense to refer to them as that.

I'm not sure they're all involved with the Company, though. Some may have founded the Company and others may have disagreed and split off. It definitely appears to me that Maury wants nothing to do with the Company.

5. Richard Drucker: Technology manipulation (Micah, Hana)
6. Kensai/Adam Monroe: Physical powers (Claire, Nikki)

Strong possibilities (my theories):
7. Kaito: Intellect/processing (Sylar, Monica, the waitress)
8. Angela: Empath (Peter, somebody else according to Claude)

Others pools:
9. Illusion (Claude, Candace)
10. Elemental manipulation (Meredith, the guy who could freeze stuff, Elle, Ted)
11. Space/time manipulation (Hiro)
12. Flight/air manipulation (Nathan, West)

Looks to me like things are shaping up this way so far. So I definitely thing the 12 are the elite of each of their specific power pools.

"the guy who can melt stuff" was Zane.

"The guy who can freeze stuff" is assumed to be James Walker, even though we really don't have solid proof of that one just yet.

How about Dale? She was the one with increased hearing. Would she also fall under Kaito's ability? It's an enhanced physical ability, IMO.
