I have been thinking along the same lines, and I have been wondering: Why haven't we seen Generation 1's empath yet? Why has this been Volume 2's best kept secret and has not come out as a spoiler?

After Angela's talk with Peter in the last episode, I'm definitely starting to think he's the only empath, unless the other one is dead, Kaito, Petrelli, or Charles in that case. Charles is a definite possibility, though if he had healing powers he probably wouldn't have died. Ditto for Kaito, and he wouldn't have been such easy pickins for Kensai. Petrelli's a good possibility then, in which case he may very well be still alive. That's if he's not Kensai, of course. I'll admit, it's looking like I was wrong on both Angela being an empath and Petrelli being Kensai at this point. But at least I can admit when I'm wrong and take the ridicule like a man Smile

Here's a theory I just came up with regarding Angela's power, posted it on another thread but I think this one is more appropriate:

Angela may have the opposite of the Haitian's ability, after seeing how she gave Peter back his memories. Perhaps she has the ability to plant memories into characters' minds. Imagine how powerful she could be if she can plant memories in minds as she sees fit, whether they're true or false. She would have a high level of control over the way characters act, which it seems to me like she does, though it's never been fully explained. This would also leave a lot of openings for possibilities regarding Arthur Petrelli. What if she put false memories regarding him in the minds of Peter and Nathan?

I disagree.

Every so often people come up with a new theory to explain away Angela's power, or powers. What does that tell you?

To me it tells me one of two things:

(a) She has been really really good at hiding her power to this day still

OR

(b) She is an empath, and what we have seen is her displaying different powers at different times. This is why we have such a hard time explaining all her possible actions.

To me, at this point, and based her survival in 2008 as well, this is the only plausible explanation.

What other powers has she demonstrated? The only one I can remember is her giving Peter his memories back.(or helping Peter to do it himself)

Another possibility could be that this is part of Maury's ability that she's using as an empath. Here are times when I've seen her possibly use a power, feel free to add if anyone can think of others:

1. Perhaps she healed Nathan after the blast and erased his memory of her doing it. (this is starting to seem unlikely though)
2. She seems to have a strong power of suggestion over the other characters, though this may just be her own personal skill and not a power.
3. I can't help but think her shoplifting had some significance. She may have been invisible, but Claude may have caught her or something like that.
4. Maybe she projected "get out of my head!" into Matt's mind rather than him reading it.
5. I think she was behind some of Peter's dreams, maybe all of them.
6. She gave Peter back his memories.

Angela definitely seemed to exert some form of mind control over Nathan's wife in last night's episode. She also touched her arm. There seems to be a pattern of Angela touching people and then they do whatever she wants them to. Anyone else noticing that?

I'm not so sure Peter remembering his mom in the future is necessarily an example of Angela using a power. Peter has charlie's memory and in my opinion it just happened to activate for a moment and he remembered some stuff. I mean, the hatian mindwiped Sylar too, but then he remembered stuff after talking to Eden. Peter has this power. I think that's all that was.

But i do agree with angela oddly touching angela.....why would they focus on that so much? There are a lot of reasons......but I do think it may be a hint towards her power.

Regarding the debate over whether or not Peter is the only empath. My take is that for the time that Claude was with the Company, he encountered at least one other empath. I say at least, because not only did the context of his comment seem to imply a reference to Peter being an empath, it also didn't carry any degree of surprise that a second one existed. It was quite "matter of fact".

I would suggest the possibility that there were other empath(s) but not from "Generation 1". Instead, any other empaths were captured and/or tracked by the Company and either were deemed too dangerous and terminated or couldn't control there abilities (which they've shown to be an issue with Peter as an empath). Without regeneration a panic induced heart attack would probably do the trick.

I think we get locked in on the idea that another empath would be too powerful to have been killed by the Company but if said empath's powers were either few in number or simply a collection of abilities that didn't directly lend themselves to survival it wouldn't have been too hard. In other words Peter equals empath but any empath does not necessarily equal Peter.
