If you're like me, you're in awe of Issac's work. And you're able to take a really hard kick to the face.
Some quick Googness uncovered the real genius behind that prophetic artwork:

I've yet to find any images of the actual Heroes stuff. Only examples of his other work with other franchises (Hulk, Spidey, Daredevil, and Catwoman, to name a few). Very worthwhile.
I'll probably be one of those die-hards that will buy a wall-sized print of the NY explosion when they release them (and you KNOW they will...) |

| I don't know much about art, but if any of you are really into that I would love to hear your opinion on the marketablity of that genre of paintings. |

| I'm not really a big fan of Sale's work. I think it works great for the show, but I was never impressed with how he portrayed Superman. |

| What is art anyway? Isn't in the eye of the beholder? I think there are some fans who would spend a lot of money for it, I wouldn't. |

I think that much of today's entertainment market is driven by 2 things: dedicated fandom and nostalgia.
Dedicated Fandom: When Lord of the Rings came out, the merchandizing surrounding it all--from swords to jewelry--was astounding. And it worked, because everyone wanted their little piece of that world. A physical connection to this fantasy that they so love.
Nostalgia: Transformers is still around. They're even re-releasing the original action figures. And, of course, the upcoming "Live Action" movie.
Why does this work? Because the prime chunk of consumers (ages 18 - 35) are all adults and young adults who proudly hang on to their youth, unlike the previous generation.
Therefore, merchandizing for something with a following, such as selling paintings from Heroes, is a sure thing in my opinion.
As far as the art style, I can understand why Sale's work isn't for everyone. It's kinda retro, to be sure. And heavily stylized. A lot of folks didn't like the "fat" superman. I thought it worked well to develop a mood.
But as Laridian pointed out, his art is very well-suited for its use in the show. I can't imagine that anyone would dispute that. |

| I agree, the archaic concept of "When I became a man, I put away childish things" has finally died. Not to mention that children of today are MUCH more informed & (dare I say it) SMARTER when compared to children of the past, no matter what e-mail spammers circulating articles about today's low test scores & FICTITIOUS tests from the 1870's would like you to believe. |
