|
|
This is the nitpick thread. It's for posting what you believe to be an error of fact or production in Heroes.
It's not for debating whether certain actions are possible within the context of the Heroes storyline. Please, no "Future Hiro couldn't have met Peter in the subway" posts. There are plenty of other places for such discussions on this board.
I'll start with an example (which I am not going to back up with serious research) to provide an example of what a nitpick ought to be.
| Quote: |
| A commenter on the blog of Heroes director and producer Greg Beeman said Mohinder is a Punjabi (northern India) name and a person from Chennai or Madras would not have such a name. He also said that the dominant language in Chennai is Tamil, not Hindi, so Hindi language signs should not have been depicted in the street market in Episode 9. |
This would be a well-researched nitpick if it were backed up with some citation for the language of Chennai (wikipedia is probably good enough) but I am not that interested to research it. Anyway, that's the kind of stuff that ought to go here.
Feel free to post unresearched nitpicks, if you're confident you're right. But don't feel bad if someone refutes you.
To post a nitpick, just reply and make sure the episode number is included in the subject of your post. If you have some information about how far into the episode your nit occurs, include that. But don't worry about being specific about the time index. (Until there is a DVD for reference it's probably not a good idea.)
Also if you feel the need to refute a nit, please do so, but only if you have the research to back it up.
Maybe if a lot of interesting nits get posted, someone can create a "Niki's comb" item to be transferred to the person who posted the most recent nit.
I'll get started in the next post. |

|
|
In one of the shots when Eden is shaving Issac, she has the straight razor facing away from the direction she's moving the blade.
Straight razors only shave if the blade is facing the direction of motion. (Much like a disposable razor, if you use it backwards, you will not cut hair.)
I don't have a vidcap to post, but even a vidcap is not enough to prove this nitpick because you can't determine the direction of motion from a single still. So if anyone wants to youtube a clip of the shave here, that will be awesome. |

|
|
(listing this as possible because I may have heard incorrectly, and I already deleted this from the DVR. But I did listen to it three times because of what I thought I heard:)
Toward the end of Episode 7 when Nathan is describing his abduction and escape to Peter, Peter asks who abducted him. Nathan responds that it was a man with horn-rimmed glasses and he was accompanied by some "Euro dude." (Or maybe it was Euro guy).
Does anyone else hear this? Should he have said something like "Haitian dude" instead? |

|
|
(Note: I'm pretty sure I have identified the correct scene but it's possible I picked the wrong one. I don't have a copy lying around where I can review this.)
In scenes when Hiro freezes time to change Ando's cards at poker in the Montecito, Hiro's position when he stopped time was behind Ando's right shoulder (screen left.) When he unfroze time, he was behind Ando's left shoulder (screen right.)
Since nobody else in the scene experiences time in the way Hiro does, the rest of the people in the scene (and the security cameras in the Montecito) should percieve Hiro as having jumped through space (teleporting) from one spot behind Ando to another.
Additionally, such a perception would occur at the same time that the cards they were holding (in front of their faces) would have changed.
Poker players routinely watch their opponents for "tells" in order to judge each hand. But apparently nobody saw Hiro teleport at the exact time that their poker hands would have changed... and nobody cried foul immediately. |

Posted: Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:13 am Post subject: Episode 1: How many people did Hiro move through time? |
|
|
In Episode 1, when Hiro is about to teleport himself to New York from the Tokyo subway, people standing behind him are swaying somewhat rhythmically because the train is in motion.
Hiro begins concentrating. The clock behind him starts advancing rapidly. But the motion of the train passengers maintains a constant rhythm relative to Hiro.
If Hiro is leaving these people behind, they should be swaying much more rapidly (as if someone had fast-forwarded them along with the clock). Since they are swaying at the same speed as they were before Hiro started moving forward in time five weeks, they must also be moving forward in time five weeks. Otherwise, they'd move more rapidly, like the clock.
(It is possible that Hiro made five weeks pass for all of the passengers but only took himself to New York. But the disappearance of hundreds of commuters would be major news in Tokyo, and hard for the writers to ignore.) |

Posted: Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:38 am Post subject: Episode 1: Which comic did Hiro read? |
|
|
In Episode 1, Hiro explains to Ando that time is more circular than a straight line. Ando asks Hiro where he learned about time, and Hiro responds that it's in "X-men no. 143, when Kitty Pryde time travels..."
Hiro is referring to the Days of Future Past storyline in which the future Kate Pryde-Rasputin's mind inhabits the body of young Kitty Pryde. But that was in X-men no. 141 and 142, not issue 143. Issue 143 is about Kitty Pryde battling a strange demon while the rest of the X-men were out looking for her parents.
(I am not this much of a geek. I only looked it up because it was there. I didn't suspect that the issue number might be incorrect when I first saw the episode.) |

Posted: Mon Nov 27, 2006 3:54 am Post subject: Various episodes and online comic: Where does Hiro work |
|
|
The first nit I posted was before there was a nitpick thread. It's about the spelling of the place where Hiro works.
I thought I noticed two different spellings (Yamagato, Yamagoto) in various places online, and a bunch of third-party places seem to think he works for Yamagoto, but the only known reference to Yamagoto on NBC's site is the Graphic Novel for episode 2, which has Yamagoto on Hiro's ID card. It was found by Protagonist. (yay!)
Anyway, I'm linking it from here so that all of the nitpicks will be in one thread. |
