I think you're close, but not spot on. "upon HRG's request" implies that he and the Haitian had contact, still, and I got the impression that HRG hadn't seen the Haitian since that day on the bridge.
I think, if anything, he had contacted HRG in some form or another to sort of say goodbye. Even in the graphic novel, you can tell he really did want to just die so he can remove the guilt from his life. When HRG got the contact, he probably told Mo' to look out for word from the Company soon because the Haitian is a valuable asset to the company. He is to the company as the little red blinky light thingy is to the MIB. They COULD live without it... but it would be a much different organization if they did.
So, to answer your question, I don't think he took on the virus by choice, no. It's a good idea though, and I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be true.... I just don't buy it for now. He thinks God was punishing him, and he even told Mo' that in the GN, during their intimate conversation, so he was being honest. The virus really is spreading. The question now is: What, or who, is spreading it?
But for better plotline, lets theorise that a Future Sylar (posing as Future Nathan) managed to get Future Mohinder to create that 'cure' he was working on in Five Years Gone (only this time in a timeline where Past Hiro didn't screw up Sylar's presidency).
The mentioned 'cure' could have ended up as an aggressive pathogen that targets superhumans.
I completely love the idea that HRG had The Haitian mindwipe Peter. Peter was the one that wanted to keep Claire in NYC. HRG probably thought that should Peter survive the explosion, he would want to have Claire near and around him in case he ever went nuclear again. That is not idea for HRG at all, so to keep his family safe, he had The Haitian mindwipe Peter. For HRG, it's all about two things:
(1) Protecting his family
(2) Taking down The Company
I was thinking the same thing only it was because he knew Claire would want to be near Peter if she knew he was alive more than Peter would want her around. Same concept though
By the way... how much do you wanna bet that The Haitian voluntarily got the virus upon HRG's request, knowing that The Company would find Mohinder and hire him to cure the Haitian.
I'll stick with you on this part PK. The way Mohinder's conversation went with HRG at the end of the episode certainly indicated it was all planned. The whole discussion between Mohinder and the Haitian about god punishing him could be two things:
a) Mohinder's gotten very savvy at the cloak and dagger stuff and it was all show in case the Company was monitoring them somehow (which they may well have been)
b) They were speaking in code and that line of discussion was the Haitian confirming to Mohinder that he was successful in finding Peter and erasing his memory and they should proceed. Mohinder was writing something down just before the Haitian wiped his memory. Perhaps HRG's location?
Panel 2, Mohinder: "Meanwhile the company will find me here, "Stunned and bewildered"."
Panel 3, the Haitian: "I will get to Bennet, if God truly believes I deserve to."
Okay, fair enough. I was speaking about the episode. I don't have the time or the inclination to read the GN's anymore. IMO they are a horrible idea, but that's off topic.

I retract the speaking in code idea...
Taking 3 minutes of your life to indulge more into the storyline you like enough to post about on a forum is hardly a horrible idea.

Clearly you're right. Forgive me for having a differing opinion.
I'm going to eat lunch now, is that okay with you?

That went over your head. I respect other people's opinions. Just voicing mine. The sarcasm probaly wasn't neccesary on my end. Oh, and while taking the time to reply to me you could have accomplished reading another graphic novel by now.
ps - Don't choke. I need someone to have a different opinion then me for a good discussion on many of the other topics in our favorite forum!

Fair enough. I shouldn't have even voiced that opinion in this topic anyway. My apologies for overreacting.
My take PK is that not only is Mohinder helping The Haitian, but then getting "Mindwiped" by The Haitian lends more credibility to Mohinder in the eyes of the Company itself. After all, it's going to be assumed that someone with no powers is going to at times be well outmatched against someone with abilities. This is one such case. And it also goes to prove that Mohinder's cure does work, albiet quite a bit more quickly than the company realized at first.
So now HRG not only has Mohinder, but he's got The Haitian, and there's also the possibility of Peter as a growing power threat planted somewhere in Ireland.

Quite a gathering of folks, don't you think?
I think that's absolutely the reason Mohinder got mind wiped. The Haitian is one of the biggest mysteries to me right now as far as who his loyalties really lied with and when.
