perhaps the haitian can only block telepathic based powers so he wouldnt be able to effect clare, and nathan but eden, matt and sylar are at his mercy. its debatable he could effect hiro, but he'd have no effect on Ted (the human bomb), Nikki/jessica or DL...
I'm sure he can overload someone's mind with his interference and cause them to passout from information overload. How it would work is simple enough...once the nervious system takes on more info than it can handle it shuts down...much like tripping a circut breaker...boom out like a light...thats a weakness everyone has so noone would be immune to his "knock out"
As far as matt being able to overcome the block... that was pure effort. he managed to get "sylar" but that was all he could handle...i'm sure he could hurt himself by trying to break through

Ted and DL both have to concentrate to use their respective abilities, and Jessica is a supposedly separate entity living within Nikki's mind, so all three actually would be affected by the Haitian's power, even if it is at varying degrees.
EVERYONE has to concentrate to use their powers, they just do it in different ways, and some have to concentrate more than others, based on the intensity of their power. For example, Hiro must squint his face and concentrate VERY hard to use his power, but Charlie's power just kind of came to her. Micah closed his eyes when activating the telephone booth. DL's concentration is also visible, by the look on his face. Even Syler shows signs of concentration, although they are explicit because he has mastered his "acquired" powers.
The most important examples of this concentration occurred in the last episode (11).
First, Matt read the Hatian's mind by concentrating REALLY hard. This shows that the harder one concentrates, the more intense their power is.
Second, Issac. Issac's previous method of concentration was getting high. In episode 11, Hiro teaches Issac to concentrate just like him, and this allows Issac to access his power!

Ah good observing but what about the petrelli brothers and claire and the person the thread is abou...The hatian... no concentration on any of their parts its just a pure power issue you may be able to say that the hatian has honed his abilities but the others havent...it just comes

I think there is actually a level of concentration for all of these characters
Nathan Petrelli: Nathan seems to have known about his power longer than the others (look at the graphic novels) and thus he seems to have better control over his power. Also he seems like the kind of guy who looks like he's under low stress (even though he's not). He actually does concentrate though. I forget which episode it was, but when Mr. Bennet and the Hatian chase him, he bends down, concentrates, then launches himself into the air.
Peter Petrelli: Due to the nature of his power, I think he is kind of special, so his powers, just kind of come to him, he can't control them (yet).
Claire Bennet: Claire's concentration is different than the others. Some of the characters have to go through emotions to access their powers. For example, in the graphic novels, DL had to get really angry to access his phasing power. For Claire, it's pain instead of anger. Also due to the nature of her power, she requires less concentration then, say, Hiro.
The Hatian (voodoo as some are calling him): This guy seems like he has had a lot of experience with his power (although I can't imagine how) and that he has fine-tuned his power, so that his concentration isn't visible.
These levels of concentration are like the movie Ghost. The main character (the ghost) needs to use his emotions to interact with the living world. But as he gets better at using his "power," he doesn't need to put as much emotion or concentration into it. It's similar with the Heroes in this show.
i agree I mean nathan did fly pretty well like hed known for awhile i mean he doesnt fly like he just learned if you look at the episode mentioned above he can fly 1. fast 2. with finess3. he doesnt land well but he doesnt do it bad

My point exactly. So the Haitian can, theoretically, block them all...some more easily than others.
im a skeptic about haitians powers. i do not think he posesses the ability to cancel the powers of others. nathan flew right in front of him. sylar read HRG in the cell that was supposedly nullifying his abilities (provided that the haitian was in some unseen location near by cancelling sylars powers).

THe hatian's power isnt the ability to block all powers just to guard against telepathic waves so he and hrg's minds are safe guarded from matt and eden and sylar. One thing I know is that sylar did not read anything from HRG because sylar can't read minds... where did you get that sylar read him and this so called "nullifying cell" dosent exist...the switch hrg hit was the light switch for the room that sylar was in (watch the episode again if you dont believe me) ...the hatian stops mind based powers...nathan's powers arent mind based so the hatian couldn't stop him... the hatian is always there when a character that has brain based abilities has trouble using them. (with the exception of peter and matt when they kept getting feedback issues when they were trying to read each other's minds)
thats what I have been tryin to say the whole time anyone that have any sort of MENTAL power is blocked by him and now physical like matt and eden not claire and nathan

my poinyt w/ sylar is that he knows how things work..."tick" as he put it. sylar did a great job reading HRG. What HRG thinks of him self, why he condones what he does. thats sylars natural ability. and he used it to "see" into HRG. the nullifying cell is just a name i gave the room sylar was in. HRG did say he wont be able to use his abilites while he's there...hence the name. I'm just assuming it the cell that is cancelling his powers and not the haitian since he is not visible (just an assumption).
i wanna know how exactly you think it is that the room is blocking brain waves and if it does the how the hel did eden get yanked through the glass?? hmm oh yeah thats right the light switch that she hit was stopping him from usisng his powers now do you see hw silly this seems

you obviously dont understand what i'm saying. first of all, i'm with you on that upsurd notion that a room can block anything but the sun. im just going off of what HRG said. being that no one else is around in visible sight the only assumption that there is something mechanical blocking powers. ya, eden did get yanked through a window, why didnt HRG? (I think becuase he has his own abilities)
shoot, if a light switch can do that i'm hitting home depot right now.
Word on the light switch funny ill give you that and I shouldnt be so quick to snap like that seeing as we stilll havent disproven the fact that HRG DOESNT have powers so maybe that is a little example that he does have powers who knows
