I'd argue that the haitian is a telepath. Think Professor X, minus the telekinesis. as stated by hornedrimmed, most of these powers are held in the brain. Without as much exposure as most of us would like, I can't tell for sure, but I'm relatively certain that the haitian would be ineffective against Claire. With her power being a definite physical, almost reflexive skill, I would surmise that she's different. My biggest argument for this is Matt, the Cop. Matt's power is completely mental, making him particularly sensitive to someone poking in his brain. He's a receiver. He opens his mind to read someone elses, leaving him especially vulnerable
Xavier doesnt have TK lol. He is only a telepath. He can have people do things like hold guns to others heads by altering thoughts through telepathy that is why he has Jeanne do the tk to baddies. He is only a lvl 4 telepathic mutant Making him strong enough to mentally have the power to kill all life if he really wanted, as to where Jeanne can kill them all with either telepathy or tk.
I know this topic is old and a tad out of point, but actually Professor Xaiver does have TK, well in certain versions of X-men particularly, the Ultimate X-Men line, yup i'm the ultimate geek...
Anyway, back to topic, this Haitan Thing is interesting, and the theories have been even more so, switching off parts of the brain seems very plausible, but i would disagree with the idea that if he does nullify parts of the brain that someone like claire would not be able to be stopped. She had that piece of wood lodged in her brain which prevented her from healing, which may mean, that though the power manifests itself physically, it is controlled by the brain like reflex... so essentially shouldn't he be able to stop that too....
Oh, and the part about blacking people out, i'm not sure whther he can... Was it his power that put sylar to sleep or eden's. Cos she told him to go to sleep, and if haitan nullifies power, then he would have dampened sylar's resistance and thus allowed eden's magic to work.
Which come to my next question, can he nullify powers selectively? if he allows eden to use hers, while dampening sylar's.
Oh and could his power be generating power dampening fields, like how u can dampen signals...
I think that he can selectively block peoples powers. This would make him kinda like Leech from the X-Men, cause eventually Leech was able to select who could use powers around him. Maybe he can target the part of the brain that the powers derive from, but that sounds a little too far fetched. I'd just say he is like Leech.
from what I've seen eden's power isnt really mind control it's more like extreme persuasion because it's like it never works on the first try and also how does the hatian get places and not be seen ..I havent seen anyone talk about how he isnt in the room and the next second he is... also the hatian is putting putting people to sleep because he did the same thing like every time someone blacks out ...he'll wave his hand over their face and boom theyre out cold ...Maybe im not familliar with knocking people out with my mind but to me this looks like what's happening
what if her extreme persuasion is stolen by sylar that would suck seeing that he could do the whole broadcast idea and get all the heroes to gather in area and go to sleep so he could be super super super strong
does anybody else realize that HRG is In new york and In Texas like all the time he must be paying like crazy for airfare or maybe my theory that the hatian has teleportation is correct. Like in the first episode he met up w/ mohinder and he went hhome to claire all in the same day then he was at his own house in this episode then he meets up w/ chandra then he see's claire practicing in her room and he was there when claire got cut on her hand... I dont get this... also the hatian seems to end up in places where he isnt before whats up w/ that (the hospital, In front of eden's blask car) please fill me in guys
As far as H.R.G. and Eden know, he's a mute. But he can actually talk! And the speculation by others that he and Eden will betray H.R.G. seems to have been fulfilled...congrats.

No, she betrayed him by going against his orders and interacting with Sylar while H.R.G. and the Haitian were gone.

Yeah, he definitely dampens, as evidenced by the strange mind-static that Matt heard whenever he tried reading ppl in his presence this Ep. And I also agree that Eden only succeeded because the Haitian was dampening Sylar's abilities, because she clearly had no affect on him whatsoever when she confronted him for round 2. R.I.P. Eden!
The Haitian's glitch in dealing with Nathan Petrelli(flyer) is simple enough. Instead of saying he can only inhibit "brain activated" powers vs. tapping "spinal powers", it's enough to say that Nathan just got away fast enough. I bet the Haitian would be just as suprised trying to take down QuickSilver, Nathan got out of there in a flash.
I am totally convinced after watching tonight's show that the hatian only wipes memories. The one who null's abilities is dum dum dum...

have we actually seen anyone use their powers around him? Claire heal but not immediately when he was still in the room. but later before he checked the bandage. Tonight's episode showed him speaking with Peter and peter coughed maybe when HRG was by peter it canceled out claires gift and he was starting to bleed internally. Notice how when HRG left Peter was totally healthy. Besides have we ever seen any scene where hatian boy blocks telepathy when HRG is not around... I dont think we have

Yes...Matt has read his mind TWICE. He pulled out "Claire" the first time he encountered him (while he was in custody), and again in tonight's episode when he got the nose-bleed but still managed to gleam "Sylar." Both H.R.G. and the Haitian were present at both times, so whichever you want to believe has the mind-to-mind interference ability. Matt at least can bypass it (if ever so slightly).
