I haven't come across a thread that combined both of these events, but here's my new theory (it's still somewhat of a work in progress though):
Among the original 12 was a precog, whom I still believe is Angela, which is how Peter saw Claude in his dream before actually meeting Claude himself.
I think Angela foresaw the outbreak of the virus and the deaths of millions of people at the hands of the infection.
She also knew that while Shanti was the first to possess it, the virus would re-emerge in someone located in NYC (Molly).
In an attempt to stop the spread of the virus, Angela worked together with Linderman, in favor of the explosion, so that the VIRUS would be destroyed along with the person who was carrying it (and anybody else in the NYC area who may have contracted it as well). This is how they hoped to save the world in Season 1.
Why November 8th though? Because that would coincidentally be the day that Sylar, the person who had been murdering specials, would also be present in NYC. Why not take out two birds with one stone?
It's an interesting theory, but wouldn't that make Linderman good and not evil as you suggested in another thread? I think you might be on to something though, because Angela doesn't strike me as a baddie, but she does seem to know more than she wants to tell! What they were actually trying to accomplish, we may never know!

Well, yes and no.
If the explosion was meant to destroy the virus, then killing Molly could have been considered 'moral,' especially if it took on an incurable strain (which has already come to pass). However, I doubt that Linderman needed to kill all of Manhattan's population, millions of innocent and unaffected people, to destroy the virus, which would deem him not moral and not good... just my opinion though.
One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist!
I definitely think the broad brush of evil has been painter over Linderman, but I don't think we got to know his character enough to say what he really was. We really don't know at this point, why he and Angela would want the bomb to go off other than for Nathan to be the President that everyone looked too. Now if he did indeed want to stop the virus, it would be kinda of like the X-men movies and he would be Magneto. Magento cared about the mutant race, but was willing to harm innocent human life to protect it. Maybe it is possible he thought that by letting NYC get nuked it would wipe out the virus for the "greater good" of people with special abilities. I just hope they do at some point address it!!! Linderman also reminds me of Arvin Sloan from Alias. Very complex!
IF Angela knew 93% of the worlds population was going to die, and instead asked Nathan to sacrifice .08% of the population to save the other 92.2.... dont you thin she ould have SAID that????
Look at it: He is having a REALLY tough time making this decision, and said repeatedly as such to her. So dont you think telling him would make it a lot easier on him? That he would, in effect, be SAVING 92% of the WORLD by letting his brother die? He would do that ina heartbeat.
And dont say that this is Tim Kring's fault either for not thinking out multiple seasons ahead of time. Because tht would just be bad writing. (So by that logic, a giant gaping plothole can be 'forgiven')
So if for some reason, we are eventually told that Linderman & Co wanted the bomb to go off to destroy the virus, would you consider that bad writing since they didn't mention it in Season 1?
Look at a show like Buffy, and very important plot devices from Season FIVE were mentioned in season ONE. No one gets these, of course, until much much later. But they're in there, because Whedon is a damn good writer.
I get what you mean - the only problem is that we weren't given ANY reason for Linderman/Angela wanting to blow up NYC, so essentially they can give us a completely new reason (if they provide one at all), which I like even less than if they were to give us a reason we already know about (the virus).
They could get around it by using bob's line "i've not been entirely honest with you...", but these writers have the idea's in their head all the time and they seemed to have a good idea where season 2 was gonna go (i would think). so yeah it wouldn't have been hard to have just left that scene ambiguous. Angela loves peter so i reckon she knew he wouldn't did the explosion, she must have precog (cos i say so).
