Dude, your aware that once a power comes back, it can be used again? You're aware that Charlie has ultra Eidetic emory, which allows one to remember everything? We also know that Sylar has the intuitive ability to see and descern how things work? So once he gets it back, he recalls how the brains worked/functioned...he will recall the scematic/layout of their powers and adapt his DNA...not sure why this is such a challenge for you guys...the super memory, in partnership with intuitive learning...it's gotta make those powers available. He is a super, he did everything right to aquire from Candace (and we assume the same of Alejandro) and his adaptive ability let's him NOW adapt his DNA. End of story. Done. No longer open to debate. IN MAXX WE TRUST. (oh, sure, that's gonna stick!)
The way I see it (since I think Sylar eats the brain, and doesnt study it) Intuitive aptitude has allowed him to figure out what to do with the brain to gain the ability, just like it did for him to figure out how to fix a timepiece.
On that same note, he probably didnt use Intuitive aptitude EVERY time he needed to fix a watch, once he learned it... he was done. Same with power theft. He didnt need his ability to take the power, just to use it.
I think because they foreshadow that Sylar is getting his powers back means...That the antidote intended for Nikki will be given to Sylar instead to save Molly. This means to me, that Nikki will be one of the heroes likely to die. When Sylar obtains his powers, he may just kill Maya.
That's a fantastic theory, Brooks. I originally thought that Mohinder would have extras of Claire's blood at Isaac's loft, which is why Sylar, Mohinder, and a dead Maya are seen there in the preview. Now that you mention it, they probably go there because that's where Mohinder was originally headed to get Niki's cure. I like the idea of Sylar being healed at the expense of Niki.

Unless Charlie's power only works while active. If that is the case and he wasn't using her power when he looked (which he probably wasn't - since he probably couldn't) - he wouldn't have perfect recall of the brains.
Of course, another alternative presents itself. We only know for certain that some or all of Sylar's stolen abilities (i.e. TK) are not functioning. What if someone found a way to suppress his ability to use powers that were not his own? This would allow him to continue "seeing how that works" with his innate ability that we lovingly call "intuitive aptitude", but would be unable to use TK, illusions, etc.
Thus, if he can cure himself of whatever is doing this (perhaps another strain of the virus?) then he can use the stolen skills again. This also brings up an interesting thought about Peter. Everyone thinks that he is getting quite powerful - well something like this could bring him down a few notches - at least for a while. Imagine if Peter could only continue collecting powers, but be unable to use them. He'd be much less powerful while that was in effect!
What? Like bringing a dead guy back to life with his daughter's blood?
Do you really think they're not gonig to use the "resurrect" button again for this show?
If you do, you're going to be failry put out when they need to bring back a character for some interesting story twist..
Just think of it this way:
As long as the series is interesting and can bring viewers to a TV set, we'll have common things happen from time to time. It's known as "The Soap Opera Effect", and you see it most prevalently in those daytime dramas than anywhere else. And why not? They've been running over the same storylines for years now, and still haven't gotten to some of their main points!
Anyway, I digress.
I didn't enjoy this season as much as last season, but that's just a personal thing, and really nothing to do with the series itself. I'm hoping for better writing this next season, but time will tell!
I don't see Sylar as having Candice's ability, really. I do see him going back for Maya or Molly, though.
I totally see Sylar going back to get Maya....nothing like a serial killer having the power to kill anyone within a certain distance with no exceptions. I think they would avoid him getting that power simply because he would not have the conscience to not use it.
As an aside, I think it'd be cool if Present Sylar killed Future Hiro.
That's an interesting thought. But it brings up a question:
If present Sylar killed future Hiro and took his ability, and then the future that future Hiro came from vanishes (and future Hiro with it), what would happen to Sylar's chrono?

(Time travel can really mess with your head man!)
If Sylar took Future Hiro's abilities, the future he was in wouldn't necessarily vanish. (Though it would if Sylar went back in time and changed an event.) Even if Future Hiro's - the new one's - timeline vanished, Sylar would still posess his powers. Time travel is easy if you just remember this : Time is subjective to the traveller. Everything that happens to the traveller HAPPENS. It doesn't matter if it's the past, future, an entirely new timeline or anything. If Sylar took Hiro's powers and then went back in time and killed Hiro as a child, he would still have Hiro's powers.
On another tip: I don't believe Sylar has Candace's illusion ability. Yes, he killed her and surely ate her brain...but his baseline power wasn't active at the time. He couldn't "see" how her power worked, so he couldn't assimilate it from her brain matter. By the time he injected himself with the cure, he'd long-since digested her brain.
There's one MAJOR reason as to why I believe Sylar has illusion.
In "Kindred," Sylar opens up Candice's head with a mug and goes to work.
When we see him next, he ATTEMPTS TO USE ILLUSION!
Now, tell me this, WHY would Sylar attempt to use the power of illusion if his body couldn't acquire it in the first place? You would think that if "intuitive aptitude" wasn't working, he would have realized, "Hey, I can't see how her brain works. What's going on?" However, Sylar gets up from doing whatever he had to do with Candice's brain, and tries to use her ability. This tells me that he was obviously able to acquire it. He just wasn't able to use it.
If they show us that Sylar has indeed acquired illusion in Volume 3, then the only explanation as to HOW he acquires abilities, IMO, is through ingestion of the brain. It's been confirmed that the virus disables abilities, and if intuitive aptitude was off, then ingestion is the only way he could have physically claimed illusion.
I think it could just be a question of how long Sylar had the virus when he killed Candice (how far it progressed) combined with the strain required to use a given ability.
I would think his intuitive aptitude lends itself to being passive and less draining to use whereas creating an illusion, especially of the scale he was attempting, would be significantly harder. I would liken it to having the flu. The further along it is the more limited you become in what you can do. You can still walk around but you're not gong to run a marathon or anything.
So, I suggest the virus hadn't progressed enough to hamper his aptitude, but it had stifled his other abilities because they required more endurance, focus, etc....
Or, difficulty in explaining this could be one of the many reasons they scrapped the virus storyline...
again, i dont think he uses ntuitive aptitude EVERY time he eats a brain.
he already knows how the powers work, that its in the brain. I think he uses IA to figure out how to use the power.
Also, he probably didnt have the virus for very long anyway. Remember the broken clock sound effect? Like his power was weak but on? I think Molly managed to use her power despite being weak from the virus once in season 1, im not sure though.
I agree Action. If you remember correctly, Molly used her power, even though it taxed her beyond what she was able to handle. Even though she was sick, and couldn't focus clearly, she gathered enough mental strength to be able to use her power to locate what was needed.
Thus, if Sylar were able to concentrate hard enough while he was under the effects from the virus, he could use the power he'd stolen, however, it would leave him quite drained and weak. (read nasty nosebleed, kind of like what Matt and Peter deal with when using their abilities beyond what they can "comfortably" reach normally).
So now that he's gotten the retrovirus, I'd have to say that any power he's been able to snatch is going to be in his repetoire, but he's going to need a little practice before perfecting these new stolen powers..
