Back when he was captured by Primatech in Season 1, HRG says, "I think the infusion of so many alterations to your DNA has corrupted your mind." (from Fallout).
Therefore, the powers are in his DNA now.
Excellent point, Obsidian! You remind us of one of the key lines from Season 1 that reveals the nature of Sylar's ability I'm with ya on that one!
I take it that his original power, learning how things work, is what gave him all of the other powers after he did something to the brains, whatever that may be. So as long as he has the knowledge, I think all of the powers will come back when he regains the use of his own power, including illusion and Alejandro's power, which I'm assuming he took.
I agree. However, I don't actually think that he took Alejandro's ability. Sylar knows that there is no need for it. Maya knows how to control her ability now. Furthermore, if he were to acquire Maya's ability, I'm sure he's confident enough to think that he could control it as well without Alejandro's power.

2 things:
1. Do you think Sylar would lose all of his powers if the Haitian mind wiped him, since his power is mind-related? I think so, so it would be a little different from Peter, who's power I think is less mental and more physical after seeing he retained his absorbed powers even when his memory was gone.
Well, at first, yes I did. That was my original theory for the season. I thought that The Haitian mindwiped Peter's memory but left his powers, and mindwiped Sylar's powers but left his memory. I don't know if The Haitian could even do that, but it was a possibility.
In regards to your question, Led, I do think that if Sylar was memory-wiped, he could lose the knowledge of HOW to use his powers, but I don't think he would lose them altogether. I think of it like this -
Peter absorbs powers with his body. He mimics because his anatomy allows him to.
Sylar acquires powers with his mind. He 'mimics' based on knowledge.
If that knowledge is erase for Sylar, then he might forget how a certain ability 'works.'
With Obsidian's quotation above, as well as the fact that I still think Sylar ingests a part of the brain (which would mean that something from that brain may be physically absorbed into his body), I don't think that Sylar would physically lose his abilities.

2. I think Maya will try to use her power to kill Sylar and he will grin wickedly, make a witty comment, and use Alejandro's power to stop her. May not happen, but I think it would be cool and would go well with Sylar's character.
Again... personally, I don't think that Sylar acquired Alejandro's ability. After Alejandro left, Sylar didn't pursue him, which tells me that he wasn't interested in Alejandro's ability. What's everyone else's thoughts on it?
He may not have been interested in it enough to pursue him, but he sure wasn't worried about killing Alejandro - and it really isn't in his nature to let a talent go to waste. I think that, if he was able to, he would certainly steal Alejandro's power.
The if is the important part - who knows how long after a person's death that he can still do his thing - minutes? -hours? -days? -longer? He would have had to get Maya away from his room long enough to do the deed and ditch the body (or just check out and leave it for the maid to discover?).
Also - it has yet to be confirmed as to whether Sylar can even gain a power right now. It is possible that the fact that he is depowered may leave him unable to see how the other individual's powers work (or to absorb their DNA through brain ingestion - however the whole thing works). We don't know for a fact that he gained Candace's illusion ability - so we can't know whether it is even possible to gain Alejandro's power.
Also - it is possible that Maya and Alejandro both shared the same exact ability. In other threads we have discussed the possibilty that some characters share an ability but learned different facets of that ability first. (i.e. Michah/Hannah, Matt/Eden, etc). So it is possible that M & A both have the Kill/Cure ability as we have seen Maya develop the ability to stop herself in the act, and restore Sylar from the effects of her power - so consider the possibility that Alejandro possessed the same abilities but only accessed the healing portion because he needed to at the time - and so Sylar (if he stole Alejandro's power) already has Maya's ability.

Of course Syler is going to take/did take Alejandro's power!!! You're saying he doesn't need it as maya can now control her ability herself...well WHO CARES if she can control it??? HE needs to control it...he has to assunme that she is going to learn he killed Al, and she also know he shot her (had to be his plan)...so do you think he'd leave it to chance that she may kill HIM without the ability to stop it? he has already been killed by her, and he better than anyone understands how devastating her power can be.
Reality is that we need SYler back full strength to counter Peter...he needs an adversary that is super...although The haitian has shown that he is the man who can render abilities moot...so another question...if the 3 of the supers; Peter, Syler, The haitian got together and it became a simple fight, who'd win? haitian looks like the winner, he kicked peter's butt in the storage crate, and Alejandro pushed Syler around pretty good.
I tend to agree. Sylar was willing to let Alejandro walk, and leave him alone. But when confronted, Sylar was more than willing to drop him like a bad habit. And, since Alejandro has an ability, why let it go to waste? You might as well take the power, just in case there is the off chance that Maya comes to her senses, and tries to turn her power against Sylar at some point.
After all, just because he's psychopathic doesn't mean that he's not one to prepare for future conflicts!

Holy crap...I've been misspelling his name the whole time? What a maroon! I hope Peter Perterello or Hiro Nakahara don't see such a sad commentary on my spelling misadventures!
Action Figure, does the mega-ability to correct grammatical errors make one a hero?
"Conjugate The verb!!!!!!!!!!" screamed the centurion!
Sylar's power is the ability to see and understand how things work. Now, if he does not have his powers from the moment we saw him this season....he could not have taken Candice's power. Unless, another of his powers, is the power of swiss cheese (ie plot holes).
If his original power was gone (even temporarily) he could not have used it to learn how Candice's power works, and thus gain the knowledge necessary to take her power.
Unless I completely miss-understand what his original power is...and unless anyone who eats a brain can gain its powers...I cannot imagine him gaining C or A's powers...

wow, dont take it personal. I meant EVERYONE who does it. Ive seen people do it within the same sentence and I just find it odd.
besides, its spelling, not grammar...
i dont see why spelling shouldnt count when it comes to names....

That's a great thought!
The only thing that had me thinking he could still see how things work was the tick-tocking sound effect. But now that you're mentioned it, Mino, it does bring up a swiss-cheese-type argument.

Sorry action, was just trying to be funny...just felt like a bit of a stooge for the misspelling, so I figured I post to the extreme...and c'mon, I worked a Monty Python bit in!
As for Sylar, the gift he has is different than the other...remember, Chandra said his power did not register. The ability to process is an ability you can't lose without dying, in a ll honesty. As for whether he can get the powers of Candace and Al, OF COURSE, even if his ability was turned off, once he is re-powered, he just has to use the Charlie power and REMEMBER what their split skulls looked like and adapt the DNA accordingly. I buy it, no swiss cheese, carry on.
I think because they foreshadow that Sylar is getting his powers back means...That the antidote intended for Nikki will be given to Sylar instead to save Molly. This means to me, that Nikki will be one of the heroes likely to die. When Sylar obtains his powers, he may just kill Maya.
As I was perusing this thread and mulling over the "does Sylar have Alejandro's power", the thought struck me -- what if Alejandro's power is like the Hatian's? And instead of him having whatever Maya's power is, he was using his Hatian-esque ability to bring her back from the black eyed fugue? If this is true, and if he did take whatever he needed to get Alejandro's power, then it makes Sylar like, the ultimate predator of supers now.
gosh..am i the only person in the right mind here?
sylar has the virus right? if he does..he HAS NO ABILITY TO SEE HOW THINGS WORK. aka the ticking is just a sound effect (like when peter and sylar say things with that deep voice)
sylar doesnt have candice's ability, or alejandros, nuff said
