"American students Derek and Maya (Dania Ramirez) find Sylar lying face down in the Mexican desert. They rescue him. He tells them his name is Gabriel Gray and seems willing to help… but then secretly kills Derek at a gas station." - YES. Yes. Yes. The fact that they called him Derek bugs the hell out of me too. The fact that they called them "American students" bugged me even further. I pray that whoever originally quoted the article forgot to type "Central" and thus the article made its rounds that way. However, Alejandro COULD be killed by Sylar, if he kills Candice first, which would allow him to look like Alejandro in front of her, thus not making her all distraught and virusy. He'd also get Alejandro's ability to cure her, after killing him, making him seem even more convincing. Why he wouldn't kill Maya, too, though, is the only thing I see wrong here. And it;s definitely not a small issue.
My two personal problems with that spoiler...
1.) They're not even Central American, they're Dominican.
2.) They're not students.
I won't even bother mentioning "Derek."
The other spoilers may be right, but they messed this one up big time. Their only saving grace could possibly be that Derek is a minor character like Zane that we haven't met yet.
But keeping on topic, yes, it seems Sylar might contract the virus. I just had an idea, though. Do the spoilers indicate how far in the season Sylar loses his powers? What if taking both Maya and Alejandro's powers causes some kind of short circuit inside him and his powers shut down? (Very unlikely, I know).
The Sylar losing his powers spoiler doesn't necessariliy mean he gets the virus. Remember Hiro loses his power at one point in season one, and it doesn't seem to involve the virus. It seems to be a confidence thing. Or maybe Hiro does have the virus and the sword somehow canceled its effects. Nevermind, that's a bit of a reach. Anyway, what if instead of getting the virus, Sylar finds and kills the Haitian and gets his power, and instead of giving Sylar that ability to use that power at his whim, it erases all of his abilities. Just an idea. Not sure if it would work well with the story but it's logically a possibility.

Hehe... BRILLIANT minds think alike! I posed this exact question in one of the other threads I wasn't sure of an answer for the question, but yes, perhaps it could create a "short circuit" in the watchmaker's son
Sylar's tight. But I think the Hatian would own him any day.
I thought so at first too, Alu... but I don't know. Taking TK away from Sylar would SEVERELY weaken him, but we must remember that he has Ted's power. Even if the Haitian had a gun and shot Sylar, he'd go nuclear and kill The Haitian, that is if he couldn't get close enough to freeze him to death first. Now, if The Haitian can nullify both TK and radioactivity, then yes, I agree that Sylar would be whoopped by a gun-wielding Haitian.
Scenario A:
-Sylar has the virus.
-Peter's becomes more of an evil character after going through his current situation.
-Peter becomes nearly unstoppable.
-The Company has to make deal with Sylar and cure him to stop Peter.
Scenario B:
-Sylar has the virus.
-Peter returns or is brought back to NYC to discover WTTB and needs to try and stop him.
-Peter convinces Mohinder to risk curing Sylar because he can't stop WTTB alone. Or The Company doesn't have faith in Peter so they cure Sylar to stop WTTB.
I'm just not sold on this Sylar has the virus thing quite yet. There are other ways he could lose his powers. If he did contract the virus from Molly's father, shouldn't it have shown up earlier? And if he wasn't the person Sylar contracted it from, then who was? And actually, we don't even know how the virus is spread. Anyway, I don't know. Maybe I just like going against the flow.
Yeah this whole virus thing is really odd. Only certain specials have it, and many of these specials have already met each other. it's popping up in random spots around the world....doesn't seem like a regular, this hero coughed around me so now i have the virus type thing. It seems to be extremely deliberate if you ask me.

I agree that not knowing how it's spread is a big void of information. But I'm comfortable in assuming that Sylar's brain snacking would be a viable way to contract it. I think he's being held in an illusion by Candice, he'll catch on, kill her, and that's how he'll get it. I don't think the spoiler was clear on how soon he loses his abilities so he could kill Candice but not show symptoms right away. Or he might lose his abilities quicker because of how his ability works.
I just think they made a point of having the virus cause a loss of abilities and to have Sylar encounter the same problem in a different way wouldn't be necessary. Especially given his MO.
Isn't one of the side-effects of the virus the fact that it makes people lose their abilities?
Some don't know they have the virus, but may just have a cold.
Sylar has spent most of season 1 hiding in plain sight. Acting just like a 'normal' human. However, once he tries to pull his stunt of killing and stealing another power, it should be obvious that his powers are gone.
My thought, he tries to TK someone, but can't. Frustrated, he figures that he's done it once the old-fashioned way, he can do it a second time. So he brutally murders someone (my guess is Candice) and then tries to steal her power. However, it's at this point that he finds himself powerless!
How's that for a scenario?
I don't think Maya or Alejandro are going to be needing to fear for their lives, unless Sylar does indeed run into Mohinder, and is spared just because Mohinder has an attack of consience, and cures him because he feels that nobody should die from this virus.
However, I don't think that Mohinder would cure Sylar, considering that he was willing to shoot the man in the skull for murdering his father..
I think the Sylar-Candice stuff has already been filmed, but we won't see it until episode 8, if that's the one following the conclusion of season one. The title of that episode has long been released. I bet they filmed most of it early.
So, if we see Sylar powerless and in Mexico then I would think it is awhile after Candice and that he probably got the virus from someone else.
Like I said before, I think it would be cool to have Alejandro's actor playing Sylar for awhile. I don't see Maya getting killed anytime soon though. Why introduce such a major storyline then dismiss it. People would really have to get bored with her for that to happen.
Another question... Alejandro made Maya's black tears disappear also. What if he didn't? Could she just wipe them away, or would she be walking around still contagious? nit-picky questions- but given the possibility of Alejandro becoming a Sylar snack soon it is bound to happen.
When Alejandro approached her in the first episode after she killed the people in the truck, her eyes were clear of any black fluids.
I think they're black for the duration of the kill. If Alejandro can get to her while her eyes are still black, he can cure her and anyone she's harmed around her. If he waits too long, or if they're apart too long, then the disease/plague goes full blast until it kills.
