Cheerleaders
Perhaps what Claire has gone through will provide a new perspective. Instead of being one, maybe she'll do something else. Too much time focusing on high school happenings does seem to be going backwards though after what season 1 gave us.
HRG in California
I'm not too worried about HRG paying for him and Claire. Housing is expensive in LA, but HRG/Noah is a crafty guy. He could have easily hidden away money. They could also potentially get $ from the Petrelli's. Angela might come looking, but that would be interesting for a story nonetheless.
Staying nearby Matt, as mentioned, is also a logical choice to keep him involved should he survive as I figure he will.
The California thing does seem destined to introduce more new characters then we really need. Seasons start slow though.
Peter and Nathan
It will be interesting to see what happens and how things are explained. I would not be surprised if Peter uses Linderman's power to heal Nathan.
Regardless of what happens, I envision some of the new characters taking over much in the same way that HRG and Sylar did... so long as they are interesting. That's what the writers will do though. They'll figure out which characters we are interested in. And I doubt they will be high schoolers.
Do we have any proof that Peter was anywhere near Linderman or close enough to be able to take on Linderman's ability? I don't recall that, but then again, I tend to focus on one thing, and miss about ten..
Anyway, I don't know about these cheerleaders again. Realistically, they strike a chord with the younger viewers, and I can appreciate that, heck, even some mid-life crisis fellows will like viewing them, but to be honest, the thread has been done, and I'd like to see something new and different..
Anyway, let's see what you all think about Hiro's quest.. Is it going to be shown in season 2, or are they just going to give us teasers through the second season, and unfold his trials in full in season 3?
Still, cheerleaders with special abilities? Let me see.. Didn't I see that somewhere??
OH YEAH! It was done just this last season! Get a new idea. Gah.. I don't mind the thought of teens with abilities, but why do they tend towards stereotypes?
I'd love to see some band geek with the ability to have pyrokenesis, or a science major with the ability to change visible spectrums, or a math whiz with the ability to move at superhuman speeds. Not just cheerleaders, or football or sport jocks, or the "cool kids" in the school who don't mind telling everyone they know that they're set apart from the rest because of their status, and not some special ability that they then keep hidden in worry that it will drop their social status at the school.....
Get my idea Herc? I kind of like where the comic is going, but then again, it's still just one more play on stereotypes.. Now, if the cheerleaders had the illusion ability, and had done this to the jocks, and the jocks were trying to take it out on someone else, that would be enough of a twist for me to keep interested. However, with it being the 'outcasts' versus the 'trendy' kids, it's just a bit trite, to say the least..
I believe because of her social status and her age though, Claire is uniquelly able to engage fellow teenagers and bring them into the fold. This might no longer be a bag and tag operation like the old "Primatech" was, but rather, closer to what Nakamura son intended it to be.
I agree Stone. One more reason that I think this "cheerleader" thing is a bit overdone...
I can understand them going to France. I'm just not sure if that's Noah chasing after Angela to get Claire back, or what that all is going to entail..
I'd like to think that it's some kind of plot of Angela still taking Claire to Paris, and Noah chasing after her to get Claire back.. I can only hope that is why the Paris scenes were in the spoilers....
Hi all - very interesting activity in this thread over past few days. Too many to cover in one post. Thanks to all for the interesting thoughts.
I'll focus on the status of Mrs. Bennett and Lyle. Remember that the last time we saw her, Mrs. Bennett must have been in harm's way. She and Noah were living in the hotel room, she helped him get his memory back, and then they pulled the old Candice switcheroo to throw him in the Primatech pokey. That raises the obvious question - where is Mrs. Bennett and Lyle? Two possibilities - in custody (or worse) with Primatech somewhere, thereby allowing the Candice approach; or they just happened not to be around when Thompson and Candice did their trick. If the former, the Bennetts are either dead or still in custody - as they would know too much about the organization to released to the general public. If the latter, Mrs. Bennett and Lyle might have been on their own for some time but they would be unaware of Noah being caught and no doubt would ended up doing harm to Primatech's interests if allowed to pursue the missing Noah in the usual way (i.e., through a police APB or some such). Thus, it is likely that they would have returned to the hotel room and back into Primatech custody.
This leaves the ultimate question - while they definitely are in Primatech control, are they in custody or dead as of the end of Vol. 1. As I think about it, there is a good chance of the former as Primatech would want to keep leverage over Noah that they could use once they figured out his location. That's probably why he made no attempt to contact tor save his wife and son - he knew he wouldn't find them and the effort would just lead Primatech use to use his wife and son to blackmail him, probably to Claire's harm. The quote about Matt's call to his wife was partly true and partly for effect - Noah in fact likely didn't know where his wife and son were; but even if he did, he couldn't have called them without endangering them more than they were already.
It will be interesting to see what happens now that virtually all of Primatech's officials are gone. Will whoever is running Primatech let the two of them out? Or keep them as leverage in case Noah was ever found? Probably the latter. I can't envision them just being freed and, if so, I can't imagine Noah letting them find him, out of fear that Primatech will have them tracked or followed somehow. The interesting issue is, once he gets situated, will he develop a "plan" to save the non-Claire parts of his family.
Rob
As usual, fantastic post Rob. Here's my theory in regards to your response to the Sandra/Lyle debate: I'm thinking that we will find out about their whereabouts/status in the extra scenes on the Heroes DVD. After all, the writers did tell us that we would catch a glimpse about some of the fates of our characters post explosion. The most likely candidates, in my opinion, are Noah/Claire, Niki/DL/Micah, and Mohinder/Molly. The reason I suggest these characters is because their situations are resolved at the end of season 1, and I doubt writers want to give us too much information into characters whose situations are cliffhangers (Peter/Nathan, Matt, Sylar, and Hiro).
While Lyle and Mrs. Bennett might be on the DVD, I'd bet that the writers will work their fates into Eps. 1 or 2 of next season, in explaining why Noah brought Claire to California rather than heading back to Texas. Too many dramatic cards to play that will affect early season plot development to give that away for free in the DVD. Who knows, maybe Claire will get frustrated at Noah's decision to save her and leave them in custody, and will head to Texas herself, perhaps with one or two of the powered friends she encounters during her stay in Calif.
On the subject of Claire as a cheerleader in Calif, it makes sense on several levels. Putting aside the Jackie stuff, she liked being a cheerleader (even though we never saw her perform, to my memory); at the same time her life has been totally disrupted and she has suffered major apparent losses or her bio dad and favorite uncle/savior, Noah will encourage her to do it so that she can have at least something to take her mind off troubles and allow her to fit into the new environment; and, perhaps most importantly, she was branded as the cheerleader in the minds of the public and that needs to be reinforced in that role with new viewers joining the show in season two. Agree it has tacky/cheesy elements but it fits in with the story's ethos and marketing. She can become a former cheerleader starting in Vol. 3. Rob
Either Adrian Pasdar plays his dad, and only plays himself (Nathan) in flashbacks (but how will that work -- wouldn't he have to save his beard for that to work?)
OR
He's the one that loses his memory, so he is Nathan, he's alive, that's why he's sporting the beard and the writers take him to a dark and lonely place with that beard... (and maybe the beard plays a second role, where he could play his dad in flashbacks).
Hmmm... do you think it could be a combination of the two aspects of your first theory, Herc? Meaning - what if Adrian is indeed playing his father, but ONLY in flashbacks. After all, we can assume that Papa Petrelli is just as old - maybe even older - than Angela, and the beard gives him a good ten years. However, it doesn't make him look as old as Linderman is - so maybe we will only be seeing Papa Petrelli in the past.
On the other hand, if Papa Petrelli is still alive - which is very possible - the beard would make it look like he's been hiding for a while. However, if that's the case, then they still need to make Adrian look much older, whether it be with makeup or hair color, Hmm...
See, that's what I believe -- the beard, definitely adds like ten years to his visage.
If Nathan is a goner, then the beard makes sense only if he plays his dad.
If Nathan is still alive, then I can see it playing another way: They do a bunch of early episodes, which are either flashback episodes of Pa Petrelli (hence the beard) and/or Nathan with his memory lost and he has been knocked-out and landed in some burg in Vermont or something. Then of course, as Peter searches for him, convinced that his brother has survived, and finds him at the end of Volume 2 or something, the beard comes off, and by that time it has served it's purpose of Adrian Pasdar being dual purpose (ie, playing also his dad for Volume 2 "Generations").
Does that makes sense?
So, Adrian Pasdar with beard = Pa Petrelli during Volume 2 "Generations" & also Nathan Petrelli "lost" and w/o his memory after flying Peter to the stratosphere.
(We won't see much of Nathan Petrelli though in Volume 2).
Then, beard is shaved, Adrian Pasdar returns in Volume 3 as Nathan Petrelli with his memory recovered after Peter finds him (somewhere in Vermont).
Yes, it does make sense, and (as always) it's a definitely possibility.
What I like most about your theory, Herc, is

I'll explain why in a moment...
I'm still on the boat that doesn't want Nathan to come back because I think it would wholly take away from the significance and impact of the finale. It would imply that Nathan knew he was going to drop Peter, and he did it so that he could be the hero, yet he made it seem as if he would sacrifice his life to do so. There would be no lesson learned.
However, I could go along with the fact that perhaps dropping Peter was a last minute thought, and we are cleverly convinced that somehow. I don't know how writers would do that though, unless we are made sensitive to Nathan's situation (a la memory loss).
Now onto your theory - the reason I like Peter searching for Nathan and finding him at the end of season 2 is because I think that the drama from season 2 could very well push aside the significance/impact of the season 1 ender (to an extent) so that by the time the season 2 finale rolls around and Peter finds Nathan, so much has gone on that we are more shocked than disappointed. I'd much rather find out that Nathan survived at the end of season 2 rather than at the beginning. But again, I'd only humor this turn events so long as Nathan lost his memeory. Of course, however, I'd still much rather have him not come back at all (unless it's for flashbacks).
i kinda wish someone saved nathan from dying...for a "purpose" maybe it was Ma Petrelli....(i kinda think she can teleport but not sold) I realllly dont want him to have just "dropped" peter or something like that...they made it seem like he KNEW he was gonna die "imma die....its overz" i just saw the ending to season 1 again, dont mean to gripe but...nikki/jessica watches sylar use TK to grab the parking meter, it flies to his hand...she then grabs it from him and hits him (meaning....she never TRULY saw peter getting beat up...he just saw sylar, at an advantage, using his ability to grab the meter) she gets involved for NO reason...
i hope they bring up how nathan's sonic boom wasnt even visible when claire said "there has to be another way!" then *super long pause......wait for it....watch as nathan's sonic boom, he flies in* "there is claire" BS !! DAMNNNIT i cant believe it, im still in shock...that being said, theres MUCH higher expectations for heroes season 2...and the creator knows it, and NBC knows it. That being said...its gonna kick @$$!!! higher funds, better advertisers more $$$= better visuals, more to play with for the writers.
YATTA! SEASON 2, am i the only one that wants to see ando? i doubt we will though...ANDO= one of my Favs, oh btw, not sure if this has been discussed but what about Isaac Mendez? =[ he's perma RIP?
