No, they won't come back unless they want to leave the season off in the middle. Kristin has former Heroes writer Bryan Fuller (creator of Pushing Daisies...) saying that if the strike were to end immediately, they'd only be able to produce another 4-5 episodes. Past mid-February, the whole season is pretty much completely screwed. I don't know how that affects mid-season replacement shows, though.
This is part of the reason why I don't put any stock into any of the rumors about Season 2, or the remainder of it, or in other words, Volume 3.
If Volume 3 DOES NOT happen this year, I expect A LOT of things WILL CHANGE between now and next year. First of all, "Heroes" won't be so fresh a show on people's minds next season, and the Network heads will want it to have a "kick-ass" impact, similar to what season 1 did. How do you do that? What kind of plot line do you use to bring in new viewers and to keep those who have stayed interested, AND maybe, hopefully, bring those who have abandoned you back?
Secondly, look at it from the Actor's point of view.... Will Christine Rose (who plays Angela) be available next year for example? What if a vehicle (another show I mean) comes along that offers her a full time role? How about characters we have been hoping will come back but haven't yet? There are a few examples of actors that could also be lured away. Hayden Pennetiere is a real hot property in Hollywood right now... why? Because she is pretty and young, and doesn't seem to have the troubles of some of the other child actresses. How about our Ali Larter? All this talk of killing her, then not killing her, it must be wearing on her, don't you think?
Thirdly, look at it from the writers point of view.... if this season is scrapped, some of the current staff might not even come back. They could end-up on other projects. Heck.... The people who started "Lost" are not even with that show anymore. That's how quickly Hollywood changes.
So, if this season is done, I expect next season, and Volume 3 to be completely different from what ANY of the spoilers have revealed to date. I expect a COMPLETE RE-WRITE.
Plugging of the Plot Holes? I dunno. But I can tell you, after the re-write I see coming, you'll probably completely forget Season 2.
well you can kinda look at what htey have planned. adrian pasdar is wriing his own tv series for nickelodeon, hayden is into movies, i think milo is doing one too. So who knows their stuff.
Ali larter i do beleive will be back in it only from the interviews she has done and the fact theres nothing listing her as part of it but heroes.
but yea i think theres gonna be a lot of changes. rumors i look for lately are who will be on it. as i said with the stuff from eoline about hwat personality niki will have. i took it as simply meaning ali larter would be back in it, i dont beleive anyone can say at hte moment whom shes gonna play or if niki herself (that personality) survived.
Very upsetting news , but thanks for the info, Obsidian
Personally, I don't think that there will be any plugging of past plotholes, but I do agree with Herc in that a complete re-write is a possibility.
I don't know if this will affect the writers' decision to change the plot at all, but we must remember that during this whole chaotic writers strike, it's been confirmed that Milo and Hayden are an item, and while I don't think it should affect the directions of Peter and Claire, you never know...
This is in from Kristen. Take it with a grain of salt. She could be just regurgitating old news and putting a new spin on it. And even if her source is right, the writers could come back after the strike and write something very different.

Holly in New York: Is Nathan really dead on HEROES? And please tell me Kristen Bell and Ali Larter are back in the new season. We need our hot girls!
A well-placed source tells me there appears to be a plan in place for when the show returns, and it involves Kristen Bell, David Anders and...yes, Adrian Pasdar and Ali Larter all back in the mix and most likely as series regulars. Happy news? I'd say so, but you tell me in the Comments section below!
I'm not sure about pasdar since he did say hes wirting a show for nickelodeon. who knows what they will do. explaining niki alive is easy since we didnt see her die. nathan we did see die. thogh really heroes has shown death doesnt mean much
and i like eonline better when it stops tryin to play name the personality and just goes for hte actor/actress names
explaining niki alive is easy since we didnt see her die. nathan we did see die.
Back in Season 1, I would normally argue that point as well (in the cases of someone like Charles Deveaux, who we were just 'told' had died), but thanks to Season 2, I've become accustomed to not really ever thinking that someone could be dead for good (which is something I don't really like). One quick injection of a healer's blood into Nathan at that moment (or within the next few minutes), and I think that Nathan could definitely survive.
I guess that's one of the mistakes that I feel the writers made - relying on the virus and the 'cure' too much in order to drive the season instead of the characters themselves. Because of that, unless Claire or Adam is really killed (i.e. decapitated), I think there's a potential for anyone to survive at any given moment.
IMO, it looked like Nathan had a better chance of survival than Niki (I just don't see how Niki could have logically survived the blast unless someone else with powers intervened), but that's just my two cents
All in all, I'll be crossing my fingers, but we'll probably be waiting another 6-7 months until we even begin to see anymore previews for "Villains" (and who knows, the writers may even scrap the old preview that was released last month).
as long as we see future hiro...but sadly..its getting more unlikely (if they do the rewrite which agreed...i can see happening) was it just me..or was the TONE of the previews (the french ones i think) just awesome? to me...it wasnt just WHAT was happening, but the darkness (no..not the footage) grr its hard to xplain but...the darkness, it definetly seemed like they (powers that be) knew that vol II had gotten lots of heat for being so cruddy (too many things to list but i'll try) dead ppl back to life, virus+cure crap, the orignals getting killed so fast, we dont really get to meet them (or find out their powes), hmm what else...maya and alejandro storyline...nuff said
i love hiros..its my fav show. but i think its like ...season one was written in its entirety, kick @$$ story from beginning to end, and pretty much made sense (with SOME exceptions) they need to do that for volIII,
if the spoilers are true...volIII will be shweet...as it is...exodus or virrains...which one sounds better? VILLAINS
i woudl say same for niki cept for the fact of all the exits and just watching seconds from disaster about an exploding building with people who were inside and barely injured due to amazing luck. but who knows with heroes.
You do have a good point, Jessica. Luck plays a very important role in Heroes. After all, what are the chances that Sylar would travel cross-country and steal the identity of someone whom Mohinder had a meeting with that very same day?! I'd definitely call that luck!! lol
yep. lots of luck plays in it. luck of hrg being chosen over anyone else for claire. Niki never realizing Jessica exists until YEARS later when she has the supports to actually care about her actions. Niki showing up at fight to give Peter power to get sylar. Writers use luck a LOT in there.
A lot of writers use coincidences. It's an old writing trick. BUT, it gets OLD when you overuse it. And that's the problem that faces "Heroes". How to do the same thing, without overusing the cliches.
