The little guy's supposed to make an appearance next episode in the "coffin" with Adam, so hopefully we'll have more to talk about after that. Does anyone have a list of each cockroach appearance compiled anywhere? This would be a good place for that. Maybe I'll do it when I get my first season on DVD.
Hey everyone, thanks for the welcome and the heads up. Sorry I brought up an old talked about subject. But the point I was trying to make, if it is even relevant, is not the correlation between Kensei and Kane, or even Kane and Anders, it is the idea that there is some new hero to be shown in Season 3. Even if this idea is "scrapped" with a hero controlling bugs, I'd highly doubt it. With the cockroachs appearing so frequently and at such key spots, there's obviously something to be looked at. Kring doesn't just throw in things for effect, reoccurances = foreshadowing. Remember the helix through all of season 1, it turned out to be Kensei's logo (or even of a higher power that has yet to be seen.) But on the whole, in my opinion the cockroach shouldn't be linked to any characters in the series at the moment, but instead on one to come sometime in the future....and I think I'm done with this subject matter at the moment...
I would hardly call any of those things simply "effects." From day one, the symbol was used in spots, which we now know were left by Adam Monroe; examp: the sword, and possibly even the Hatian's necklace. And for the eclipse, we don't know as of yet its significance, as we hadn't known of the helix symbol's significance months ago. So, I'd hardly brush them off as used by Kring for mere visual pleasure. There's always more under the surface...
Does anybody think that, in later seasons, the writers may take the 'cockroach' to a new level and have it represent something more than just symbolism (Like a roach/insect controlling ability)? Or would that not work for the show...?
I dunno how I feel on it - the roach COULD be given a greater role, but I wouldn't want it to feel forced as if the writers are out of ideas or anything.
I really wouldn't call it "out of ideas." If they have had this cockroach thing around from the very beginning, they've probably had some thoughts of where it would go. I doubt it would be something they just added last minute because they've run out of ideas. In a comic book world, the possibilities are seemingly endless...
I know the writers have confirmed that it's symbolism right now. But my question was that if they change their minds, do you think they could (1) make it believable, and (2) would you like it.
I don't know if it has been said yet, but it is popularly suggested that cockroaches will inherit the earth if humans were to destroy themselves in a nuclear blast. Cockroaches do have a higher radiation resistance than vertebrates, with the lethal dose perhaps 6 to 15 times that of humans. [Note: Although the common fruit fly has an even higher tolerance, the cockroach seems to be the invertebrate of popular choice.] At any rate, I just thought I would throw out the connection of the two, as both seem to be reoccurring overtones for this series.

Supermn! Where in the heck have you been?! I miss ya, and the good ole days of theorizing that Molly Walker was actually Past Claire and that the whole Matt/Molly storyline was taking place in the early 90s, lol. We know how that theory turned out! Lol. K I'm done. Haha.
actually, he does just throw in things for effect-
The Roach, The Symbol, The Eclipse.
the roaches are just symbolism.
well both the symbol and the eclipse have turned out to be more than symbolism, we might see the roach become more important in the next season.
but personally i think your right, its just symbolism.
