The Symbol
Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
A frequently appearing symbol linked to the new heroes strongly resembles a stylized RNA molecule. This symbol has appeared numerous times and is frequently in some way related to a hero:
* In the swimming pool at a double homicide crime scene in which Matt Parkman was involved.
* As a recurring shape shown scrolling across a laptop screen in a genetic profiling program created by Chandra Suresh.
* On a drawing done by Peter Petrelli.
* Frequently painted by Isaac Mendez.
* Written on a textbook owned by Claire Bennet.
* On the necklace of the unidentified man working with Mr. Bennet.
* Written on pictures in Sylar's apartment.
* As a tattoo on the shoulder of Niki Sanders' alternate personality.
* Engraved on the hilt of future Hiro's katana (sword).
* Printed on the front of Chandra Suresh's book.
* Printed on the upper left corner of the 14th issue of '9th Wonders comic book, written by Isaac Mendez (The 13th issue that Micah was reading did not have the symbol).

If everyone in this thread agrees, I will change the title of this thread to "The Official Symbol Locations" thread and make it sticky so we can keep up with appearances and meaning over time.
from episode 4 we know that Mr Bennett and "voodoo" kidnap Specials to test their abilities then erase their memory.
maybe they already kidnapped all the characters (peter, niki and all) before the story began. and since it's voodoo that does the erasing, the symbol is the only thing they saw before the mindwipe, so i kind of stick in their subconscious.
also, i believe that Mr Bennett and Voodoo may have worked (or even worshipped)with Chandra Suresh (given the symbol may come from his genetic-code software, then on the cover of his book).
the murederer of Chandra suresh may not be Sylar, unless Sylar does not always take (eat?) his victim's brain.
from the episode 5 preview it seems now clear that peter "leeches out" other powers (i even did not see that one coming until he told Mo in episode4.. and i read LOTS of comic books !!!).
i wonder why they did not put DL in the show yet. he was supposed to have the power to turn intangible (that would explain his escape from prison).
also, i wonder if DL supposed victims (the squeletons Niki found in the desert) could have been killed by Niki's other self.
i've been thinking a lot maybe to much about all of this, this show is the greatest i have ever seen, and we've only seen 4 episodes so far.

I dont think peter leeches out powers. More mimics them. Leeching suggests taking them at the cost of teh other person and so far there doesn't seem to be any loss on the part of the other person. IMO

If I recall, when Peter jumps off the building and Nathan saves him, Nathan says "I caught you and I wasn't strong enough.... but right before we hit at the end, you flew." Yet in the online comic, he's able to carry that woman with no problems. (And we know she's at least 18, because she says she was going to vote for the other guy at the end...) Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it. We'll see.

If Sylar takes only the brains of those with special abilities, then Chandra Suresh's brain may not have had any interest to him.
As for the subject of why couldn't Nathan carry Peter when he had no problem with the girl, remember that when he tried to catch Peter it was the first time he'd ever flown. Just like Hiro couldn't stop time completely that first time he was staring at the clock, willing it to turn back, maybe Nathan wasn't yet strong enough to save somebody. But later, after he'd had time to "gain experience and level up", he was strong enough to save the girl.
