you may or may not be aware of what is called sweeps. This is something used by the US broadcasters to set AD rates for the rest of the year. Its based I believe on rating they get during that time (last 1/2 feb and 1st 1/2 of march I think) This is why a lot of shows lately have not been on EG Smaillville and Greys. Heroes did NOT take a break then so it must take one now. As US tv shows all ways end in may and Heroes would run out of episodes before then if it did'nt take one.
If I could i would go in a hibernation room for 6 weeks and wake up and look at heroes , then go back in for a week, till the next episode.
On the otherhand I have a empty fridge in the basement , If i call in sick for the next 7 weeks and put a special timer door opener mechanism on the door.
....hmmm will give it a try see ya
Greg Beeman's blog has a good reason for this - He says that it takes about 8 days to shoot an episode, plus another 4 weeks of post production for each. The reason for the first break was that they didn't have any more episodes to air, but they had planned it so that the cast and crew could take a couple of weeks off during the holidays. During that first break they began writing and shooting episodes 12-18 and working on the editting as they went along, until, suddenly, no more episodes!! ah! Yeah. so now they're spending the time since the finished Ep. 18 through the time that the break is over shooting and editting 19-23.
This one is easy -- RATINGS BONANZA! So far, they've shown new episodes only during sweeps and no repeats and kept fanboys and fangirls like us waiting with baited breath....
Of course ratings! After all, how else are you going to convince a network to continue a series if you don't have the rating to back up the claim that it's a new hit?
I also think that torturing Hiros_Girl is another benefit that they didn't know about until after the first break, and since that one was such great fun, they decided to give it another try, and see how well it did the second time around! I know I'm enjoying watching reruns on my DVR of the older episodes..
