When Hiro went back with the intention of saving Charlie, the past sort of "corrected" itself, and didn't allow him to change the future by saving her.
The moment Hiro left the present day to attempt to save charlie, nothing changed in so far as the people who worked at the diner were concerned. They were still mourning Charlie's death we just didn't know why.
So, before Hiro's jump, she died from Sylar, but after she died from the clot. Point is, she still has to die as the past cannot be changed.
As for why the past can't be changed, I've no idea why. I think it's a convenient/clever way for the writers to totally circumvent any paradox questions that might/could occur as a result of Hiro jumping into the past.
She died from Sylar. When the episode ended the 6 month gap, it recapped the last episode to bring you up to speed on what has occurred for those three months. That is why Charlie's head was bleeding at the end during Mohinder's ending monolog. That is also why Ando still knew Hiro went back to change the her death.

ok im a little confused right now so i hope someone can clear this up.
so even tho charlie did have a blood clot, before they kissed hiro jumped again, so did she end up going to work that day sylar came to visit. in which in return hiro was coming from japan to the burnt toast dinner to meet up with ando knowing he couldnt save charlie? maybe im running in circles?
If he comes to that conclusion, then why come back and tell Peter, "Save the cheerleader..." It also looks as if she still dies from Sylar bc they show at the end of the episode her oozing black goo from her forehead, just like all his victims.
My question is how come he jumped without trying?!?
Do we really know that Charlie was killed by Sylar either the first time we saw her die or after Hiro went to try to save her? Yes, we saw Sylar in the diner but perhaps he was just there to eat. Charlie had the aneurism that she mentioned in the "six months ago" episode and when she dies we never really saw Sylar killing her. Could it be that she actually just died from the aneurism. I'm no Doctor or anything but maybe when she had her aneurism it caused her head to bleed in that manner and she died from the aneurism not from Sylar killing her as we have been led to believe. It seems to me that Sylar does not have the ability to "feel" heroes. It is just that he has the list that he got from Chandra Suresh and is just going where the list takes him.

To quote the cop in the diner
Quote:
She didn't deserve to die that way. Skull ripped off.
That fits the list of Sylar's victims to me. Also, for blood to gush like that, it would have to burst through the skull, which I don't believe an anurism could do. It works by stopping blood flow, not exploding. We can assume Sylar killed her the first time, and I think he did the second time to. Mohinder's closing epiloge talks about how you can't change fate. It has several times actually.

I think he can only stop time or stay in the past for so long. The pressure builds up and sort of snaps him back at a random location or maybe just a familiar one in the present. Then he's worn out and can't use his power for a bit.
I think it works somewhat like H.G. Well's The Time Machine. The guy couldn't save the woman he loved by going back in time, because he built the machine BECAUSE she died. If she lived, he never would've built the machine. Same with Hiro. He went back BECAUSE she died, so if she lived, it would've negated his time travel. For some reason it reminds me of a Mobius strip, you know, the eternity loop? He went back because she died, so she has to die so he can go back.
It's just like HG WElls "The Time Machine". You cant save her because whats making you go back in time to save her if you already had. Something else needs to happen in order for you to go back.
i think he was forced back because he was about to encounter himself. the same person cant occupy the same place @ the same time. so my guess is he was forced back and he couldn't jump forward with in the same time frame for the same reason he would encounter himself and negate existance...
As for poor charlie... sylar has to kill her because thats how she dies...if Hiero had stopped her from getting her brain snatched...she still would have died from the brain anurisum...

Sylar took Charlie's brain, she had a blood clot in it, would this impair any of sylar's abilities later on? Just trying to figure out the significance of the blood clot being mentioned.

Maybe I should lay off the caffeine.
*firstpostyay!*
Well, then that means Claire is the one who's going to die next episode. Since future Hiro must have a reason to go back in time to warn Peter.
