Petrelli pulled the trigger - Linderman was trying to stop him.

I don't know if Pa Petrelli knew what Linderman was up to (there has been reasonable speculation that he did and it caused him and Linderman to fall out again) or what the OWI was doing. But Ma Petrelli knows what OWI is up to, and she's protecting Claire from it.

My thought on this:

Linderman and Petrelli Sr. are going to be shown to be the original founders of OWI. However, after a few years, OWI splits away from the goals that Linderman had planned for it, and becomes the opposition to what Linderman's striving for. Petrelli Sr, not sure what to do, gives his complete statement to OWI in exchange for leniency, and Linderman uses that information to force more concessions from Petrelli.

quite a conundrum, don't you think?

when i said he "lost everything" i didnt mean financially, i mean....here he is, supposed war veteran, but he got discharged because he was telling the truth about what happened....if anything i would've held a grudge against linderman because he didnt back me up etc etc....he seems to have "lost everything" cuz he's all glum, sad, chilling in a big house with nothing to do, having lost the one thing he knew 100%.....the army.

now just a reg n00b civilian, he's all sad etc...a broken man he seemed

That depends on what the information is.

What is Pa Petrelli actually found out that he does have a latent super ability?

Or, what if his suspicions were about his own son? Linderman gets wind of this, and threatens to take the news public, instead of letting Petrelli keep it a secret between OWI and his family.

Sometimes, in order to portray the nice, clean-cut family image to the outside world, we'll do just about anything to keep that image in place, even if it means creating and living a fictional life..

After reading the Graphic Novel no.28.

It got me thinking:

1) Linderman realized that "Evolved beings" like him were regarded as Dangerous and Disposable by many.

He denied to tell the truth in order to protect himself from sharing a fate like Au Co. Imagine the consequences if the Vietnam army knew of a special healer in the American army..... You can expect a similar story from the vietnamese side:
"5 vietnamese soldiers are sent to US grounds to neutralize an objective named "Austin", mistakenly thought as a location name by the unaware, misinformed vietnamese soldiers."

2) He knew that the majority have the tendency to suppress or eliminate the minority.

3) He felt the need to Create awareness onto fellow "Beings" and unite them against greater evils == fear, ignorance & jealousy. The "beings" might be gifted with powers, but they will be destroyed easily due to the numbers and the technologies control by the "Normal people". (Thus, he realized the need to place "Special Beings" in high places. In places where individuals have the access to the most dangerous weapons....... and most importantly restrict access of such weapons of destruction to ignorance-ungifted humans)

4) However, it's hard to make these "beings" to stand out and reveal themselves. Most of these "beings" have mentality like Claire, Nathan, Matt....etc (especially those unseen faces on the list who REFUSED to meet Mohinder) So the idea of bringing them together is hard.

According to my theory, Linderman allowed the explosion to occur so that the "Special Beings" issue will be under the lime light. And with the fear and mis-treatment done to the "beings" after the explosion, it will amplify the Need for the "Beings" to unite & fight back.

- Sometimes it takes a broken bone to finally reveal that there is child abuse in a household. Ironically, that's when awareness arises & necessary help will be given.
