So, why waste an ability as powerful as that on Linderman? Why not? Does the ape choose to be born an ape? The man, to be born a man?
I said the skill would be wasted on Linderman more as an opinion than a prediction.
I'm good with Dallas being Mr. Petrelli, Sr. - his letter from home suggests that.
Somehow I got the idea that Linderman is taller than Austin, but that may not be true. Hair color is just no way to tell - white hair can start out as any color. I know quite a few people who started with black hair which turned white with age. Moreover, when parts are cast, the actors chosen based on skill and match to the role may not look exactly what you might expect from family relations. You could be right that Austin is Linderman, I just disagree with the reason.
Nah....I think Thompson's about the same age as HRG - which would make him about 6 at the time..
The comic book resource reveals that..
Linderman has an ability
The "War Buddies" graphic novel, and the above little snippet give a new shape to the "file number" of the archive document Wireless lifted from the Pentagon.
SEA:V5J1K2/P/L
South East Asia: Vietnam report number 5J1K2, focusing on Petrelli and Linderman.
Dallas and Austin.
I'm pretty convinced....
Edit: Removed link to a duplicate topic I started by mistake
I also think that Dallas is Mr. Petrelli because of the letter. The letter from home gives us a big hint that he is Nathan's father. Which means Linderman is a healer.
Linderman did mention people have attempted to murder him many times and he wasn't very shocked when Nathan pulled the gun at him. We can't confirm that Linderman is the healer until we know the true extent of his powers and if he can heal himself.

Hi all,
I understand that alot of us here in superhiro forum believed that Austin is Linderman and Dallas is Petrelli. Therefore, we also assume Linderman power is to HEAL others (woot).
I would like to elaborate on Austin's power more in this topic.
Everyone on the boat was Physically stronger than Austin. Everyone vocation on the boat is more Combat-orientated except Austin(medic/combat medic). EVERYONE got shot except Austin.
Ok, I understand Austin can heal people. But it won't do much good if he is dead before helping others.
Then there is a question: How did Austin smuggle a BOOK into the boat? When personal artifact is considered contraband?
Dallas "smuggled" a piece of paper... well... it's pretty easy to hide a piece of paper.
But A ENTIRE BOOK?
So.... maybe Austin can do more than healing people. He is agile survialist with incredible accuracy and has the abilty to hide items. Which means he could be another Sylar or Peter.
Well... I could be wrong.
Oh, anyway...... it seems that everyone on board of the boat can pretty much be RELATED to all our beloved heroes in this series.
(The asian looking guy could be..... Hiro's dad.... or maybe Matt's Dad if he is not asian... the America African could be DL's dad or Simone's dad.... etc). Again... I could be wrong.... but it's fun to make up theories while we wait.... till 23rd April.
I'm at work on a crap computer, so can't look at the novel again, but is it confirmed that the other people died? Maybe Austin healed them after the end of the graphic novel?
Maybe they also have children who turned out to be heroes? The "Asian" man, I actually almost took him to look a bit like Parkman, and what about a Hawkins onboard? Could have been DL's dad... Only time will tell
Does anyone else think its weird that austin was the only person on board the boat who didnt get shot..... So what other power apart from healing could he have, maybe an invisble force field...
Well, first off I think that it was not that a book was banned, but personal effects were banned meaning anything that had personal information in it. There was a note on the first page of the graphic novel stating that Austin's nose was always in a book. There was not a problem with the book until Loredo grabbed the book and looked at it. I wonder what was in the book. Secondly, I agree that Dallas is Papa Petrelli and Austin might be Linderman. I think, however, that Austin's (Linderman?) power was/is not just to heal but also to actually give (or turn on?) someone elses latent power. It seemed to me that Dallas had a serious overreaction to simply being healed. I mean, he was upset. It seems to me he would be grateful if he was just healed. I think what he was upset about was the change that he felt in himself as to his powers awakening. Interesting and it deserves more thought.
I don't think that this has been mentioned yet, so here goes:
Aside from three of the Texas codenames being significant locations in the state, I also noticed two other things.
To go from Laredo to San Antonio, you would take Interstate 35.
To go from San Antonio to Austin, you would take Interstate 35.
To go from Austin to Dallas, you would take Interstate 35.
Going from Dallas to Amarillo is an exception. The more direct method of travel would be to take Route 287 from Dallas to Amarillo. However, you could actually take Interstate 35 north into Oklahoma, and then change to Interstate 40 and go west to Amarillo, though that would be somewhat out of the way.
I also found it interesting that all of these locations, with the exception of Laredo, seem to surround Odessa. Laredo seems to be on its own in the southern part of Texas.
Anyway, just some similarities I noticed. I'm probably over-analyzing, but anybody have any thoughts?
Austin didn't get shot because of who he is.
1)He's a skinny kid, and you know he was probably bullied at school. Drafted into the army to serve in Vietnam at the end of the sixties, you can imagine this is a kid who knows to duck and hide when he hears a loud noise like gunfire.
2)He's not a soldier. When the sniper opened up, the soldiers try to identify where the fire is coming from, so they can return fire. It's a soldier's job to kill the enemy - this tends to get him shot. A lot. Especially in vietnam.
3)He's a medic. It's the medic's job to SURVIVE the firefight, so he can treat the soldiers that got shot.
Herodude
I find what you say about Austin/Linderman's ability to be interesting. I take it you're referring to the recent mentions (I forget where from) of an ability which can engender genetic changes in others...a bit like Peter's empathic power, but with an added "send" button? Logically extending that, I suppose it's also feasible that such a person, having encountered a "regenerator" like claire, could then temporarily invoke that power in others. However, I don't think this is the case. I think he would have mentioned meeting someone else who could heal BEFORE he started healing people. I'd say his ability is just plain old extrapersonal regeneration.
popkorn....yes.....very! It puts Primatech at the centre of the whole thing. Again. Kind of reaffirms primatech as a governmental agency, doncha think? So, how's this? Primatech and Yamagato, set up in conjunction with the Japanese government to find and train "evolved humans" for military superiority.
They send out even-numbered squads, matching one unevolved but highly-skilled soldier for every evolved but only basically-trained human. Linderman is paired with the unevolved Petrelli. After the war, Primatech decide that Linderman's ability requires more detailed (and probably fatal) study.
Linderman, with Petrelli's help (well, he saved his life, that counts - especially to a soldier) escapes their clutches and sets up "The Good Guys", working to protect heroes from Primatech and Yamagato who are, in fitting with a CIA-like agency of the time, making a complete and utter mess of the whole thing, torturing and killing willy-nilly.
I have theories about how we get from there to blowing up NY, but none of them seem right. I'd like to know if Linderman formulated his plan before or after knowing about the possibility of an explosion, and what he really hopes to achieve by it. And what future hiro's aim is.....to save NY, to save people from Primatech, to save people from the Sylar?
Your theory about creating an evolved military is awesome, Slip. I like it a lot, and the info I listed above does indeed point to Primatech being the center of everything, thus maybe having something to do with the government.
I'm interested in what you think about a new little theory I posted in the Novel 26 thread... HERE's the link (it's towards the bottom with the red and blue colors)
