Someone earlier mention Fight club and the Hulk... I think they hit it on the nail. I dont think it is possession (not very "hero-ish") but a split-personality with Hulk like abilities.
It seemed in Godsend that Niki was able to use jessica's strength but still stay Niki when she broke the night stick. Also, it seemed to me that Jessica knew what Niki was saying and doing, but not the other way around. Anyone pick up on this or am I wrong?

She has begun switching rapidly between Niki and Jessica and I think it was Jessica who broke the nightstick. Jessica has always known what Niki does, but not the reverse. Niki rarely knows what happens when Jessica is in control.
From everything I've noticed, I'd have to call Jessica the protector, and Nikki the innocent. Jessica comes out to stop anything from affecting the things Nikki cherishes the most. Nikki has no control over what Jessica does to attain that goal, but she does know when the manifestations are going to happen in a slow building scenario. In a desperate situation however, Jessica takes over with no lapse or recognition from Nikki. When Nikki finally gets a chance to regain control, and realizes the extent of Jessica's actions, she has a nice dialoge with herself, and tries to explain her motives and reasonings. However, I think that Nikki will eventually be able to harness the strength and powers of Jessica without having to mainfest her alter self. I think she's already taken the first step by turning herself in, and subjecting herself to extremem situations in the jail. She's starting to be able to use the Jessica powers, and regain control right after the situation has passed. Not a few days, or hours later, as was the case at the beggining of the show. I'm all for Nikki being able to control and dominate her alter self to her will, as I think she could be an extrememly formidable character to contend with in this series!

no, i think it was still jessica(even though i still want to go back to niki 2.0) who broke the nightstick. niki's face had the expression of "wtf just happened" when she took a look at the pieces in her hand. and you're right on the 2nd part.
I just watched Godsend on nbc.com with the commentary, and they said that it was Niki using the super strength. There were also some hints of things to come.
SPOILER:
They said that Matt and Claire will be in an extreme (or maybe the word was "intense") situation together a few episodes from now. I think that may be too vague to be a real spoiler, but it's enough for us to play with.

I have always felt that Nikki's ability is super strength. She uses "Jessica" to protect herself, like an alter-ego kind of thing, but they are not separate individuals. Although I don't much like her character, she is a model of a classic superhero. Look at even Superman and Batman, these are alter-egos to keep their identity safe and secret. I think Nikki/Jessica is the same idea just a bit more crazy.
My only problem with that is this: Why bring the fact that daddy killed Jessica into it? I still say Jessica had astral projection or something crazy and found a compatible body to reside in with her sister. I know it's goofy, but I'll believe it til I'm proven wrong.

No one's really addressed these two facts:
1. Jessica has the symbol tatooed on her shoulder. It's real since she covers it up with makeup to fool DL & Micah.
2. Jessica died or almost died in the fight with DL, and Nikki wakes up showing no signs of damage. Then later Jessica manifests, with no damage from that fight either.
I have an idea about Nikki from those two facts: Nikki is a shapechanger, with super strength. Perhaps not shapechanger in the usual sense. more like having multiple forms? If one of her alternate form(s) dies, Nikki can form it again, as if nothing happened. Since Nikki was never hurt herself.
Maybe Nikki originally formed Jessica (personality AND physical form) to protect herself from things she could not deal with? The Jessica form could access Nikki's innate super strength, since Nikki never did have the ability to do so herself, until the Godsend episode.
Interesting idea, StopMan, but in my opinion, it's wrong. I still say Jessica (Niki's sister who died at the hands of their father) had some form of Astral Projection. When she was killed she projected herself into the nearest compatible body, Niki's, and had no body of her own to return to so she stayed.

Ah, so in that theory, when Jessica is "killed" by DL, the body resets back to Nikki, then sometime later, an astrally recovered Jessica comes back to do the dirtywork?
