|
|
It would seem that Tim Kring, in his wisdom has changed his overall plan for Heroes.
I believe I was first to report on the boards that he planned on killing off most (if not all) of the heroes we knew at the end of Season 1.
Personally, I thought it was a good idea, but it seems the rest of fandom wanted Heroes to be just like every other superhero series out there.
This came in from E!Online
| Quote: |
| "There are plans to add one new, one big character next season." I’m told that character is female—to even out the gender ranks a wee bit. Tim also told me that those Heroes who remain are likely to stick around, 'cause he's changed his m.o. "I thought Heroes was going to have an ever-shifting cast," he says, "but the cast hit in such big ways that now the challenge is to figure out how to use them all and still fold in a couple of new people, because I still think that the origin stories are the most fascinating, in some ways." |

So seriously, how's that going to work? The show was supposed to be about ordinary people coming to terms with having extraordinary abilities. Seems to me that by the end of the season, all our lot will pretty much know who they are and where they stand.
I'm saying it here and now. The way this is going, it's going to end up being just another superhero show. It'll get tired, formulaic and stale. It will end up being about the powers rather than the people, and it will die a death.
All those wonderful new characters we could have seen. New problems, new dilemmas, new relationships. Now we're gonna get ONE.
Okay, so some of our current set of Heroes still have some backstory to tell, but that's just going to make Season 2 more like an extension of Season 1.
So what's season 2 gonna be about? Well, if you ask me, it's going to be a whole new set of challenges for our heroes. Challenges that will make our Heroes use their abilities to overcome them. Our heroes will already know how their abilities work (even if we don't), so it seems to me it won't take more than an episode or two to overcome each challenge.
Like I said, just like every other superhero story out there. You spend a bit of time getting everyone comfortable with the character, then you start throwing bad guys at them, one after another.

| Well... i gotta say that i'd probably not be as interested in the show if everyone, save 1 or 2 heroes, was killed off this season. That being said, i hope we see less of some characters. I guess I'll sit on the fence on this one and say 'meh'. |

It depends on how it's done. I've become very attached to some of the characters and would hate to see them go. Either way, there's a challenge to keep things fresh.
With the same characters, the challenge will be to continue an interesting storyline without having people's behavior become ridiculous to provide drama. ("OK, who hasn't Nathan had an affair with yet? Candice? She'll impersonate Niki with him and Simone's long lost twin sister with Peter. Then she'll get pregnant, but we won't know who the father is. Jan will miscarry, so Matt and Jan will steal Candice's baby. Claire will be so disgusted with Nathan that she'll try to ruin him by exposing his premarital affair with Meredith. Meredith will have an affair with HRG, causing Mr. Muggles to go into therapy. Next week, Meredith and Claire will rescue Candice' baby...")
Even with new characters, they will have to come up with situations and stories that don't resemble the previous ones too closely, or we're going to be thinking things like, "Look, it's Claire but with a different actress this time, and her dog is named Tootles instead of Mr. Muggles," and, "So, who's going to have premonition this season, and who's going to be the mind reader?" or, "How long can this character hide her power from her family? The last two with X-ray vision were outed in less than a month."
The ER model may work. Some characters don't come back, most do. New ones are introduced each season, and they see who works out. |

| I want new characters, as long as they explain some stuff about the current ones. |

| I think using new characters as was originally planned is the way to go, with some guest appearances by some of the original heroes; ESPECIALLY if the newer storylines are concurrent with the existing story, which could put events into context for the fans (ie pre bomb/post bomb). |
