the reflection looked like burns, not scars, to me.
I thought so too but the consensus seemed to be drifting toward scars. But I also thought it to be Peter in the reflection at first too so I may not be a good source of support on this one, LOL.
I tend to agree that he has been healed. I think that he was healed by Peter. But I think in doing so Peter appeared to kill himself. This is what leads to Nathans guilt. I think that this would then lead into some of the speculation around Peter and his powers and why he has no memory.
Peter appearing dead Nathan and Angela move on. The Company then realizes that Peter is fine but really confused about his powers as they test him. They see his weakness in how he uses his power, use the Hatian to wipe his mind and send Peter packing to Ireland. The Hatian then gets sick and goes home. Bob send Mo to fix him to get him back. But that backfires on them. The Hatian joins with Mo, Matt and HRG. The Hatian will then go looking for Peter to give him his memory back. But low and behold Peter already has the Hatians power so he restores his own memory. Comes back to NY, meets Maya, her brother and Molly. Finds WTTBM and destroys him, then starts looking for the Company people to put them to rest.
Nice ideas, but some problems.Peter never got the ability to heal others. Linderman was a long long way away unfortunately. So he couldn't heal Nath. And the Haitian's power can't give back memories once he's destroyed them
It is possible, however, that Peter's regenrative powers might mend the damaged part of his memory, Here's hoping
Just a quick note: Peter has Charlie's memory power through Sylar. And Sylar used that to remember things the hatian mindwiped when the company captured him. that was my take. I KNOW!
Litle late, yes, but as Circadian said on like page 3, maybe Nathan did make a deal with the devil. He meets him, falls into his plot and makes a deal, Nathan gets him the 9 old metas. and the devil/WTTB makes him look decent. though, all the folklore we have all heard, the devil shorthands him and gives him a nasty little beard. Thoughts???
But the intersection with WTTB and Nathan's guilt because of it, and WTTB having healed him IS a possibility.
After all, if WTTB was one of the original 12, then he would have know that Nathan could be played, like Linderman and Angela were playing him last year.
So WTTB heals him, but Nathan still has guilt over that and over being alive. But Nathan now works for WTTB, he's the one placing the death cards in Angela's and Kaito's possession.
It's plausible.
Nathan "LOOKED" like that, before WTTB heals him. His beard is there because he doesn't want to see his face, since he's reminded of the scars he used to have.
I'll buy it.
And the beard comes off later this season because Nathan has a second "come to Jesus" moment, a second redemption scene. Could very well be.....

I agree. I also think WTTB is the other empath Claude referred to which explains how he can heal with Linderman's ability and possess Charles' ability which is how he haunts Molly. I also think WTTB is Pa Patrelli which is why Nathan is going along with the photo placing (and possibly more) so easily.
I'm not feeling the papa petrelli thing. that would mean that there aren't 9 left. and that makes the whole thing completely pointless. And, when they described Nathan's story before the season started they said he already had his bad streak, and that we would see him have to repent for the things he's done in S1. I don't think making a deal with WTTB and killing 7 others was the writers' idea of repentance.
Nathan is not sure of how his brother died, and in fact, he doesn't even believe he's dead, he waits for Peter at his apartment, when his mom tells him he is dead, he refuses to believe it. But, deep down, it looks as though he's starting not to believe it himself....and he's having a hard time coping with that. He feels he should have died, he was willing to sacrifice himself, and here he is, alive, while his brother is (in his opinion) most likely dead or lost. And that's a only a small fraction of his guilt.
He trusted his mom and found out she was evil, he betrayed claire, betrayed his own brother, lied to Hiro and made him look stupid, and he didn't kill Linderman when he had the chance. His wife left him and he no longer has his kids. Everything has fallen apart. And I really had to explain all this? His guilt was self-explanatory IMO if you watched S1.
And yes, I have seen guilty people do bad things. But I've also seen guilty people try to repent for their sins (as the writers themselves said he would). He even tells his mom she is evil. But when she gets attacked in the police station he is truly scared for her and appalled that this happened. I just don't see Nathan as a bad guy anymore. And if he indeed is the one to go with Matt to try to stop WTTB, I don't think it's because he made a deal with him and all that stuff. It's because he attacked his mom, and Nathan is trying to be a good guy again IMO.
Honestly, I think Nathan is just trying to find himself.
After all, he was basically sacrificing everything he was in order to be elected, and he just about broke every moral value he had to do so!
I'd say that right now, he's doing personal penitence for the things he did against those who were with him. Peter, Hiro, Claire, HRG, Angela, Linderman...
After all, when you think about it, Nathan didn't really do anything right last season until the final episode. Sure, he _wanted_ to be the "good buy" but his choices left much to be desired.
There were glimmers of hope: When he helped Hiro get into Linderman's vault, meeting Claire..
But those glimmers were far outweighed by most of his other actions during the series.
I'd have to say that right now he's just trying to see who's going to be willing to work with him, and how he's going to be able to re-establish himself as a friend and colleague to these folks who he's mostly betrayed to this point.
As far as his fear when Angela was attacked:
Sure, he was afraid for her life. But he still doesn't agree with who she is. He's come to terms that she's done something that he can't forgive. However, she's also his mother, and for that, he'll always love and attempt to protect her as much as he's able. It's in the blood!
