Actually, aside from the fact that I don't believe that Nathan's face is scarred and it's all in his mind, facial hair CAN HAPPEN through scar tissue and burns DEPENDING on how deep the burns are. You can do the research on the internet yourselves.
The thing is though, Nate is growing the beard because he thinks he has scars. I am with Alucard. I believe someone healed him, BUT before he got healed he had the scars and saw himself in a mirror, thus the image he is seeing when drunk.
In the mirror his whole face was scarred. A beard wouldn't hide anything. I would say that if he got burned it would be bad, and all over - meaning he was either healed (plausible) or lives inside an illusion (which I don't buy at all)
The answer I prefer - and believe - is that he flew away before being burned and feels like a coward for it. So sometimes when he looks in the mirror, he sees what he should have looked like if he'd been a better man. All in all, I'm gonna say it's a
Not entirely a red herring. Adrian Pasdar's already confirmed they'll talk about why he sees himself that way and that he'll even shave the beard off soon. I like your reasoning though. I could definitely go with that.
If we want to get technical about this, scarred tissue IS already healed tissue, it's just healed in a damaged/deformed way. So I don't see how you can "heal" something that's already healed.
With Heidi, Linderman healed her nerves and whatever was still damaged.

So far, I like that thought the best
We'll find out on November 12th... hopefully sooner though...
Yeah, in all honesty. I never really saw anything more to it than that. I mean they are obviously trying to make us feel for nathan and realize that he feels he is guilty.
I'm glad you're on my boat, but now I'm gonna throw my own paddle overboard!
I don't understand why Nathan should feel guilty at all for how he handled the explosion. It appears to me that he actually did everything right. Peter exploded in the best possible place - in the sky - away from people. Nathan still managed to save his own life - without risking others - which I think is admirable enough. Does it matter that he couldn't stay with his brother until the very last second? Surely he knows that Peter wouldn't have wanted him burn to death if he didn't have to. Plus, to cap it all, Nath genuinely believes that Peter is alive.
So why so much guilt?
I'm starting to think maybe this guilt is not from that final flight. I think Nathan is feeling guilty for his earlier actions, and the selfish way he's lived his life. If he had been a better brother to Peter (or even a 'good' brother) - if he’d supported and nurtured his little brother even once in his life - maybe Peter would not have had to go through what he did (and not on his own). He might not have had to explode at all.
Maybe this is why Nathan feels so terrible. Because his neglect makes him partly responsible for his brother burning alive. Maybe what he saw in the mirror was what Peter looked like before he exploded.
I’m gonna stop my mind right here ^.^;; I’m already scared to watch the Four Months Earlier episode, because I think it’s going to be horrific what happened up there. I don’t think it was a clean case of Nath flew Pete up, Nath flew out of range, Pete expelled a lot of energy (while not burning himself), then Pete fell to earth.
Maybe Nath isn’t guilty at all, maybe he’s just mentally scarred... Okay, I’m gonna need that spanner back. Anyone reach it?
Nathan probably believes Peter is alive because he wants to believe he's alive. Happens to a lot of people who go through a traumatic experience. Seeing your brother turn into a mushroom cloud is slightly traumatic.
EDIT: Or maybe Nathan, not Angela, is the one that had Pete's memory erased. Hm. Would explain his guilt. Would also explain why he knows Pete's alive. We also know that he has a thing for blondes, so there's Elle. The only missing piece is how he figured out his mom knew the Haitian, and how he figured out what his power was.

I agree. His tone when talking to Angela about Peter coming back carried that vibe to me.
I'm not sure about illusion. I tend to go more with being healed or more likely that it's in his mind. If it's healing I think the question would be if Linderman's healing ability (whoever would have it) is powerful enough to repair scar tissue.
Either way, I don't think he has any scarring now. It was hard to say for certain but in the previews for the season we see Nathan running to the top of Charles' building with no beard, and it didn't look like he was scarred to me. It wasn't a terribly close up shot either though.
It scars when its healed, I meant it looked like fresh burns. Ever see someone rushed to the hospital for 3rd degree burns? I have, and it kinda looked like that... but stickier....
Actually, I'm with AF on this one. Fresh burn looks like blistered skin - slick, wet, and red like blood with some skin coloured sinew stretched across patches. But the face is still mostly face-shaped because the dead stuff hasn't rotten off yet.
Older burns look like a rubbery mask of mottled darget red, grey and pinkie-grey. There would be swelling, disfigurement and bits missing.
(Ugh, grim post!)
I'm going to watch it again when I get home. If it looks fresh or wet, I'm changing my vote to 'fresh burns'
