And I am going to posit that Nathan may also be a mimic (maybe not empathic, though).
There is a deleted scen from the first season that seems to suggest the writers may have thought of going that route before, because Nathan can sense Peter's pain, just like Peter could Nathan's.

That's a pretty cool thought, Action.
So then maybe... JUST MAYBE...
Papa Petrelli was the one that could fly (I claim it! hehe )

I agree with Obsidian - it's definitely Adrian Pasdar under all of that makeup.
Hmmm, I'm looking at the paused frame right now and I'm seeing Milo. Oh well, agree to disagree until they give us more? At least we can be sure that this is something that will be clarified.

Furthermore, we already know that those who possess radioactivity dont get hurt by their own ability. In ".07%," Ted didn't have a scratch on him. Theoretically, if Claire looked like how she did at the end of "Company Man," then Ted should have also, but since he didn't, we know that he couldn't get hurt by his power. I know he didn't fully go nuclear, but he was really close to it. Chances are, Peter wouldn't have been burned by the explosion, at all, ESPECIALLY considering that he has Claire's ability. Unless Peter got mindwiped in mid-air by the Haitian (which I 100% doubt) and forgot how to heal, Peter was physically fine after exploding.
True we know that, but I thought that Nathan and Peter had a discussion, after Claire pulled the glass from Peter's head, about whether or not Peter would survive if he exploded. My point is, I don't think they weren't entirely sure he would survive if I remember correctly (I'll try and find the scene). So if Nathan is seeing Peter in the mirror (if you'll indulge me for a moment) it's not unreasonable for him to believe Peter was disfigured and killed.
Okay, okay...I concede it's Nathan. Rewatched it frame by frame and there are a couple early frames I had focused on originally that looked like Peter to me. Lack of thoroughness on my part. My bad
Now that that's cleared up, I definitely lean towards him having been healed as opposed to an illusion of some sort. Mainly because of the beard but not just because of an ability to grow one but also because if it was Angela projecting it, she wouldn't have Nathan looking so...unpolished.
It could be Peter picked up Linderman's power or it could be someone entirely new. They already gave us a second flying person who is a new character so that opens up the possibilities quite a bit.
Ok, so if it is Nathan, isn't it possible that he's just seeing himself as he thought he should be? Looking in the mirror, at the person who should have been burned, should have died, not peter, but him, and he probably sees this image a lot. I guess Nathan could be a mimic.....so you're saying....that in FYG then , Sylar would have had the power of mimicry? and would no longer have been using his original power to gain other powers. also, i think nathan would have healed his wife after coming into contact with linderman. i think he would have at least had some sort of hint at using someone else's powers, especially on accident. and if he's a mimic, then the mimic power works like empathy in that the powers are stored? and if the only difference between empathy and mimcry was that empaths needed to feel, then wouldn't that make Nathan maximum potential, and make Peter not Sylar's ultimate prize even though that was already stated?
You folks think that the whole mirror scene could also be a Niki/Jessica reference? I am starting to be convinced about Nathan and mimicry or empathy... but just not yet... however, if the writers introduce another flying guy, then maybe... just maybe...
I think West is a spawn of OWI... and like Claire is adopted by a Company man....

Maybe... I don't think Nathan has a split personality, but the reflection hints at his thoughts and feelings. But hey, I was positive that Peter's dream about exploding was metaphorical until, oh, maybe episode 18. I believed the explosion was possible, I just didn't think it would be the result of one person literally exploding. So I could be clueless again.

Interesting idea. Wasn't there a spoiler about West having a "traumatic experience" in the past which resulted in him having the marks on his neck? Although that doesn't necessarily contradict the new idea...
I doubt HRG would go around abducting co-worker's children.
Nathan had to have healed. Nuclear blasts move about the same speed he can fly, so even if he did drop him long before the explosion, he'd get hit by it, as there was no smoke trail showing him hitting Mach 1. One way or another, he was hit by the explosion, so he HAS to have burns on him, unless he was healed by someone.
Remember when Nathan was going to kill Linderman? Linderman said something to the effect of "Better men than you have tried." Now, having a sizable chunk of grey matter pulled out of your head seems pretty unsurvivable, but who knows? Perhaps Linderman DID survive? Anyone seen anything that indicated Malcolm McDowell would be in this season?
