I've been hearing folks talk about some of their favorite books and authors, and I just got up the gumption to start this new thread.

Tell me about some of your favorite books and authors.

I'll start.

One of my most memorable reads, and one that has stayed with me for quite a few years has got to be H.P. Lovecraft. His "Call of Cthulu" book and the detail and imagery of the 'human struggle' were of a dark side of writing that I'd never really seen before.

Sure, I'd read Edgar Allen Poe, and some other stories, but I'd never really read something that had a malevolent, yet benign entity as the supreme being, who was wholly unconcerned with us insects. The entire read was dark, foreboding, and left me with a sinister sense of loss and futility. I have only been affected like this a few times after reading a book, so this was definitely a very memorable and new sensation for me.
