Interesting that they let matt go but only wiped the memory of where he had been.
What did he do all day? Read minds for them somewhere? I think they planted suggestions to him, straight in his head, and now he is at thier beck and call. Scary thought!

Hrmm I am doubting that HRG is good. I think he is very patient, and has plans laid far to the future. Maybe he is in on this bomb thing, maybe not..

We shall have to wait and see.

All I know is that he has not killed anyone yet, and everyone that he has come in contact with has walked away from him. What did they wipe from his mind? He remembers that he has started working for the FBI. All he has seemd to forget is where he was for 1 day. HRG is obviously not the one taking brains out of people. I cant figure him out.

Here is my speculation ...

HRG/Voodoo work for the government. I think they are responsible for tracking down and monitoring all the "supers". Based on Suresh's theory, all the "supers" are linked and thus HRG captures people like Matt, Voodoo reads their minds to find possible links to other "supers" ... They "tag & release". They do not want to kill them, as they may need them later on. They are the government ... they are neither good nor evil. They want to be able to control and use this event (the genesis of Superheroes) that is occurring for their own purposes.

I think the bomb is set off by them in the future to (1) Stop Sylar and/or (2) Have more "supers" reveal themselves. If anyone remembers the DC comic series Invasion from the late-80's, remember how the aliens find the humans with superpowers, they line them up and start firing away. One's powers reveal themselves under extreme duress.

im really thinking he is a good guy since they are putting so much effort into setting him up to be a bad guy

HRG's behavior reminds me a lot of "The Shop", a secret government-funded organization that is integral in several of Stephen King's novels. The Shop basically captures and studies paranormal and supernatural phenomena by any means necessary.

An example of this is King's novel Firestarter - the main characters are a father and daughter, each with special powers, that are both captured and experimented on. The Shop is rarely portrayed as a positive entity.

So let's say HRG works for a black ops style org like the Shop, but in his undercover work with Claire he also wants to see to it that Claire isn't hurt - psychologically or otherwise. HRG mentions to the jock guy that Claire is going through a difficult time in her life and she doesn't need him mucking it up, just before he scrambles his brains.

HRG may be integral in "saving the cheerleader" when the time comes, since he's obviously well connected and has powerful friends. Definitely not a good guy, but he might do something helpful if it suits him.

it's pretty common for stories like these to draw out assumptions that one character may be some kind of enemy... it would be way too obvious for him to be exactly what he seems to be... in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this whole plotline with HRG was just for the purposes of testing the waters for the 1st season

I agree with the theory that he's just part of an organization that is keeping tabs on supers... I wouldnt even necessarily say the government... there are plenty of other possibilities... obviously he has good and bad points to him... I bet he will protect some supers and destroy others, based on their social stability/usefulness/etc... I'm sure he's bound to do some good and some bad as long as he's in the show

here's a thought... what if HRG isn't the guy in command that he makes himself out to be?... what if Voodoo's really the one pulling the strings, and HRG's behavior is only to mislead?

I'm kinda leaning towards him being good. He could've shot Nathan when they were in the parking garage, and again when they chased him to the fence.

I think that he is a good guy as well. He isn't Sylar, that much is pretty clear, otherwise the cheerleader would already be done for..

A theory, he just isn't A good guy, but the leader of the good guys.

He is trying to protect his daughter and is working for (or even owns) a corporation. Possibly even controlling/working for/being Linderman.

He is an enemy of Sylar and is looking to keep his daughter safe from her. He is finding supers, having Voodoo check them out to make sure they don't work for Sylar, and then Tagging them and letting them go.

I think he may be the one that brings them together in the end.
