I still think, (my opinion) that there will be only one timeline, and irregardless whether there is a NYC boom or not, Peter will somehow end-up with a scar -- it's just that our assumptions of how he gets it might have been wrong....
First the root word: Regardless. Without regard. When you add the preposition ir, you then make this word to be without without regard, that means that you're taking things into regard.
Sorry, pet peeve of mine..
I'd have to say that I agree with Slippy. There's two choices to be made here. One, Peter is aboe to slip behind some physics laws, and is able to change the future, thus sparing himself from gaining a scar, and keeping NYC in one piece.
Two, Even through superhuman efforts, the explosion isn't stopped, Peter still gains a nasty scar, and the timeline continues unabated.
I think Future Hiro should have said, "Save the cheerleader, save your pretty face!"
In Future Hiro's timeline, Sylar probably killed and absorbed Claire's power and Peter got a scar somehow and then gained Claire's power through Sylar, but since he had the scar already, he couldn't heal it. And Sylar being pretty much invincible causes the world a great bit of grief.
So, by saving the cheerleader, I think Peter will be scarless in the future.

Or what if Sylar hadn't gotten Claire's ability, and when Peter goes to talk to Mohinder and gets that nasty gash, he realizes he's absorbed the TK from Sylar and pushes him off of him and the cut heals normally, thus, boom, scar! If he'd absorbed Claire's power from Sylar, it would have healed the same way it's bound to in Ep.19.
although...
Milo said in an interview with Kristin from E! that the cut that Sylar gives him has nothing to do with the scar that Future Hiro mentioned.
did anyone notice the cars on the road at 35 mins into episode 18 just to the right on the road near hiro's shoulder? considering that the city has been devastated by the explosion?

Yup, and there's also construction going on at a new building, just offset to the right.
We've been told that Ep. 20 will take place 5 years into the future - it seems like Ep. 19, then, will be Hiro and Ando - less and we'll get back to them in 20. If that's the case, there being cars and construction seems like a likely sight.
What an ugly scar to have! "You look different without the scar..." But a Sylar-full lobotomy scar? Why doesn't it heal? Does Peter loose his powers out of fear and have to get rescued by someone else? Or are his power mimicking abilities limited by distance? Claire leaves the country and thus is too far away to use her power.
Nope, the scar can't be from a lobotomy or Peter would no longer be Peter. Anyway, Peter afraid uses his powers more, not less. Also, my theory is that Peter absorbs the power and taps it through emotional stress. So fear, excitement, rage would only increase the strength of the power (but might not be effective in Peter being able to select the power to use). Distance would have nothing to do with but the fact that Peter is at heart a passive personality means that his emotions have to rise higher to tap into his powers. Guess he didn't spend enough time in training with Claude.

Totally off topic, but I was watching the special features for "Casino Royale" this morning whilst dreaking chai, half asleep, and there was a photo of Daniel Craig from "Our Friends From the North" and Christopher Eccleston was in it, as well, and I was like "OMG! It's Claude!! ah!" haha.
This episode was great; guess we now know how Peter gets his scar! The one thing i'm really confused on is Claire grandmother. How did she and the Haitian meet up in the first place? I guess she knows more than she leads on, but still.
2 things:
1. How would Peter still have his scar? I figured the whole, "Save the cheerleader; save the world!" thing was Future-Hiro's way of getting Peter to go to Texas and save Claire (acquiring her healing abilities in the process.) Why do that? Because in the original timeline, Peter never saved Claire and Sylar killed her and took her power...and became near-indestructible. Who knows what happened after that? Obviously, Peter had a run-in with Sylar and somehow escaped after Sylar began opening his skull. But with no regenerative abilities, he kept the scar. Our Peter has Claire's abilitites, so there's no reason he should keep the scar. I think both Peters had the same run in with Sylar in Saresh's apartment, but this on will heal from it.
2. Claire's grandmother (Nathan's and Peter's mother) is obviously in league with Mr. Linderman. So is the Haitian.
WHAT IS THAT ALTERED VOICE!!!! SYLAR DOES NOT HAVE EDEN'S POWER SO WHAT IS IT?!
I think he does. We've heard that vocal effect used with Sylar before (after he escaped and was about to kill Claire's mother.) Eden thought she could keep him from getting her power by shooting herself in the head, but that doesn't mean she was correct. It was a rushed decision with no supporting evidence. Think about it. If Sylar gains other people's abilities by eating their brains (let's not be squeamish: The brains are entirely gone.) Now, when Sylar removes their brains, I assume the process is what kills his victims (shock, blood loss and such.) If I'm correct, the brain can survive for up to several minutes removed from it's blood and oxygen life support system. If that's the case, then Eden blowing her brains out wouldn't have prevented Sylar from gaining her power. It just made his meal more messy than usual.
