Peter just being in proximity to someone in order to gain their power is how I'm seeing his ability. After all, Sylar used his power against Peter, but Peter never saw Claire use her power, and he gained it anyway. That to me speaks volumes. I don't know how close he has to be, but I'm thinking that as long as he's near, he's a magnet for super abilities. That also means that any power Sylar had up until their first conflict Peter also carries somewhere. Granted, he might not know where they are stored, or how to use them, but they _are_ there, he just doesn't know how to access them.
I think that if it's a hero that is to die, we have a few to pick from. However, motive and probability are going to be the issue.
We have the Haitian: Could he die? Most certainly, but then it would leave HRG completely defenseless. And we know that a good series can't leave the main protagonist all alone aginst the hordes. A struggling hero, yes. A major baddie? No way!
HRG: Sure, daddy could die, but then who would Claire be focusing all of her attention and power against? This one isn't a more viable option.
Sylar: Yeah, yeah, we've all been hoping the sicko would die, but I don't think it's going to be at any point in time this season. The fella eats brains, after all! You'd think he'd get smarter from all the gray matter he's ingested! Gabriel Gray is going to be here when the season ends.
Mohinder: The bumbling doctor is still around, but for how long? He's under the spell of Sylar, and nobody knows how long Sylar can keep up the act, and have Mohinder not guess that he's using the good doc for his meal ticket! Odds are that he'll be going down the dirt nap road soon, but probably not this season.
Issac: He's been forseen to die, but is that just a nasty teaser that isn't going to come true? Is he going to be the next lackey that HRG uses up until there's no more? Very good possibility. After all, he and Peter have come to blows in the end, and Simone's come out worse for wear in that conflict.
Peter: There's no way that they'd dump their most powerful and charismatic hero just before a major fight sith Sylar. Well, not unless they wanted a full-blown riot out in the streets of every city in the nation, that is..
Nathan: Who doesn't want to see a politician get theirs? Of course, I think he's still got quite a few plot lines to sort out before he takes his final bow, so he's really not in my book as of yet.
Hiro: The man, the myth, the legend, the dreamer! Sure, he's not in the second season, but that doesn't mean that he's out of the picture. Who that has watched hasn't felt attracted to the lonely geekiness of Hiro when he's been punched out by even a girl at times! You have to love a guy who can't defend himself except to stop time in order to move away from the fight! Hats off to the man who thought up a way around the 98 pound weaking syndrome! Hiro's not going anywhere.. he's the mascot!
Jessica/Nikki: They're still developing her character, so there's not really any reason to get rid of the intriguing character that Ali Larter is playing. I don't see her getting too far, but I also don't see her bowing out just yet.
Claire: Ah yes, the cheerleader that saves the world. Who knows? According to sources, there's a good chance she's marked for death, but then again, if she dies, who's going to save the world then? Or is it already saved, and we're just watching the backlash? I dunno, but it's awfully tough to kill something that refuses to die, or even admit when it's hurt. I mean, when I break a bone, I'm hurt. She breaks something, shrugs, puts it back together, and keeps walking. Yeah, stick a branch in her head and she stops.. for a little bit. How do you kill something that doesn't wanna stay dead? Can you say "Night of the Living Dead"?
Claude: HRG's been hunting for this guy for a while, and gave up once they thought he was dead. Now he's back on their radar, and I don't think they're going to give up on him just yet. There's a good chance that Peter's teacher is going to take a long walk off a short pier.
Meredith: Claire's mom. Nathan's fling. Just to cover it all up, I wouldn't put it past Nathan or his mother to take a hit out on Meredith just to get her out of the picture. Takes care of a really messy situation, and makes Nathan a bit more comfy for that election ride..
DL: We haven't seen much of "Mr. Fantastic" but I'm sure he's still up to no good. Sure, he's got the sugar momma out there offing folks for really good money, and he's got a kid that can knock off ATMs in his sleep, so he really doesn't need to work. Who knows? Maybe he's the catalyst Nikki needs in order to regain control of herself. He's a good possibility.
Micha: I don't think the rating folks would like to see the death of a young boy on their TV show, so he's pretty safe. After all, Jessica would kill to keep him out of harm, DL would sacrifice himself for him, and he's no slouch when it comes to self-preservation. So my guess is you can take the mechanical whiz-kid off your charts.
Ted: Mr. neuclear could very well be the next to go, but I don't think it's going to be right now. I think he's going to be the disaster they try to avert at the end of the season. He's in hot water right now, as he's in the hornet's nest in Texas. And you know that HRG does like to carry a grudge.....
Hana: We've not seen much of her. I don't think she's going to be taking that much of an active role, but be more of a puppet player juggling marionette strings to her heart's content. Once you know what makes a person move to your tone, it's hard to let go of that. I think she's going to find the information every hero is looking for, and use it to further her goals.. We'll see. She's not the next to die.
Matt: The disgraced and rogue cop. For a mind reader, he's pretty slow on the uptake, isn't he? I guess that's why he's not made Lieutenant for so long. You have to at least figure out what's in front of you before you try to take on the object just past that one. Maybe in this next episode he'll be able to finally figure out that he's supposed to be on the side of "good", and get a clue.. We'll see. I hope someone thinks it, so he can get clued in as well.. Chances are, he could be going down the toilet as well..
I stand corrected on the subdural/subdermal point - my ears aint what they used to be!
I reckon the biggest difference between Peter and Sylar (ability-wise) is that Sylar, in adopting a new ability already knows the dna (or whatever) changes he needs to make to his body or mind to USE that ability. I think Peter probably has to be in range (20ft I think?) when a power is USED so that his brain can then mimic it.....
This explains why Sylar has use of a new power (if not full control) as soon as he adopts it, while we have only seen Peter use powers that have been actually used near him.
Am I right in thinking that Peter has been near to Ted while they were in police cells (some episodes ago, while Matt was working with the FBI), or do I have my timings wrong?

I for one do not want Nathan to be next or even soon for that matter, i still have hope for him to show his good side, his Mom seems to be the one keeping him Rigid and Focused to be so self centered. I am thinking maybe that witch may have done the Nasty with Linderman and that Linderman could be Papa to the Petreli Boys (Ive been wrong before)
and as far as Merideth being a FLING he said he did have feelings for her, and as i see it it was before he was even married, but the illegitimate Claire could be a thorn in his election bid. I dont think hed have her bumped off but his broom ridin mama might do it.
As far as HRG being defenseless, i think i saw in the previews ted being moved around without any contact, this makes me wonder if HRG does have some kinda power, which has been speculated before, or maybe i misinterpreted the preview.
DL could go at anytime if ya ask me i wouldnt miss him at all hes just a big Whiney in my book.

That's a tricky one....remind me of the situation....was Haitian actively using his "telepath supression" power at the time....(assuming it really is Haitian's power and not HRG's as I half-suspect)....and was he using it on Matt? If so, and if I'm right about how Peter's empathy works, then Peter would have learned the Haitian's power, but (and here's the stumper) NOT Matt's....
Unless, of course, the telepath suppression is more general - in which case it could also have suppressed Peter's empathy at the same time....

Does he necessarily have to SEE them use their powers? His empathy could work by passive telepathy, so the ability would just have to be actively used within his telepathic range.
Yeah, I got confused over timing and locations.....that's what happens when you watch 15 episodes in two sittings - it all kind of jumbles together.

They are equally the cause, Peter because his invisibility alerted HRG to Claude's continued vitality, Claude because HRG tracked HIM to find Peter...The circle closes
I think HRG used Isaac's painting to find them. He knew from talking with Isaac about Peter being half invisible that Claude was still alive. Isaac led HRG to them both... actually to Peter and Claude just happened to be there.
Just as an aside, I'm beginning to have my doubts about Mohinder's validity as a character in this. All he seems to want to do when he encounters a new Hero is some unspecified "tests, mostly questions". He says he can help to each person, but all he has to offer is a complete lack of any real understanding, and the promise that he MIGHT be able to supress their abilities.
Add to this the fact that he is kind of following in his Father's footsteps by enabling Sylar to continue murdering, and you get a man who's more plot-device than character.
well, rewatching the episode...after Claude gets tazered.....it SOUNDS like Peter freezes time but...Claude, next to him, is moving around like "owe" quite a bit (during the entire scene) meaning that he simply used Sylar's TK to stop them. Unless of course he localize froze it in time like Hiro. But I dont think thats possible, as Peter hasn't even used the power really, and Hiro has used his many many many many times and barely learned it.
I hope Ando comes back. and....WHO SAID EARLIER THAT HIRO WONT BE BACK ON SEASON 2!?!!? is that verified =[ whaaaat?!!?
Why didn't I think to do that. Yup, I'm with you - Peter didn't stop time at that point - the Tazer was still buzzing....lighting and slo-mo was just dramatic effect. Damn, another point conceded....I'm nothing for 10 here!
oh yea, and im rewatching it yet AGAIN, and when the scene shifts from isaac looking at his painting with his gun....to where peter FIRST is "fighting" claude...they're both invisible...and claude grabs that pole/stick thing and it BECOMES invisible. Just thought I'd make sure we'd all verify that Claude can touch things that arent visible (perhaps only to an extent) and make them invisible

Haven't seen this mentioned yet, kinda surprising considering how much discussion this item had early in the season.
Issac has the gun. The same gun that Hiro found next to his dead body. I'm thinking that Issac still buys it and Mohinder is the one that leads Sylar straight to him.
When HRG handed him the gun i was thinking "oh no thats the gun that was on the floor when Hiro saw his body" I didnt think of Mo leading Sylar there, i was afraid that Pete would some how Pop Issac's top, and i was dreading that.
ooh yeah, that'd be gross. I think Isaac's days are numbered, but I'm pretty sure it's still going to be Sylar who does him in. That, or perhaps Hiro altered the time/space continuum enough so that Isaac will get hit by a bus crossing the street - it seems less paintful than having your brain removed
That's debatable.. Remember Hannibal Lecter could cut open a man's skull and fry up his brain while the victim was still sitting there consious and aware!
Depending on how Sylar takes the brain, I don't think they feel much once the action has been initiated. After all, head wounds do tend to bleed a heck of a lot more than other injuries, thus the lakes of blood we see from his victims.
They could very well be somewhat consious up until the time he decides what part to take out and dine on. Who knows? They don't show the cookout!
I wanna know when Mohinder starts to get suspicious of Sylar's actions. I mean, he's got one good tell already from Sylar and his behavior now that he has the enhanced hearing. What new power is Sylar going to try and take that Mohinder's going to question? I'd say the next one they meet is going to set him off, and we're going to be seeing sparks fly.
