Starting the thread to discuss last night's episode!

Posted by Squeaker:

Episode #5: "Fight or Flight"

Brooklyn;
Moh is doing his best to make Molly comfortable, but she isn’t waking up. Neither he nor Matt know how to help her out of her nightmare, but they agree that it was Matt’s fault for asking her to look for his Father (aka ‘The Nightmare Man’). Moh says that Matt must find his father to make him undo what he did. Matt is too afraid to confront the man who walked out on him as a child, but Moh reminds him that Molly just faced her worst nightmare for him. He finally agrees.

New Orleans;
Monica is still in the restaurant where she kicked a robber through a plate-glass window. A cop is questioning her and she’s doing her best to explain what happened, but is having difficulty understanding it for herself. The cop shows her a picture of the robber and asks her to ID him, but she doesn’t want to be a snitch because she’d risk getting her family into trouble with the local gangs.

Cork;
Caitlin closes the bar at lunchtime (since Irish drunks obviously live in Australian timezones). She and Spongebob-Patrelli get down to some smooching. Caitlyn suggests that he open the box, because someone with his powers is meant for more than a ‘normal life’. He’s still scared of himself, but she assures him he’s a kind hearted person and won’t discover anything sinister about his past. He reminds her that she was the one who didn’t want him to open the box, but she explains that it was only because he hadn’t kissed her yet. They kiss some more, closing the door behind them.

Meanwhile at the harbour, Will (the lackey traitor whom Peter TK-throttled) is approached by a beautiful blond girlie who is searching for Peter. He asks who’s asking. She says she works for a company who want to keep Peter out of trouble – because he’s a dangerous man. Will says he knows Peter’s dangerous, and tells the stranger where to find him (at Ricky’s bar). He shouts after her asking why they’d send one girlie alone if Peter was so dangerous. She walks away muttering that she can take care of herself, and sparks of electricity shoot out from her fingers.

Manhattan Police Station;
Nathan – sans the facial foliage! – confronts Matt for interrogating his mother again. Matt explains the situation with his father and Molly. When Nathan learns that it’s all connected to Kaito and his mother, he insists on going also. Matt says fine, and hands Nathan the address, saying he can probably get there faster, since he can ‘you know’ *tippie-toe*. Nath reminds Matt that he’s not a cargo jet.

Cork;
Ricky enters the bar with someone from the docks. Peter and Caitlyn are too busy cleaning each other’s teeth to notice. Ricky insists on talking to Peter alone. His dockworker companion explains that an American girl was sniffing around the docks looking for Peter. Ricky dismisses his friend and tells Peter he’ll help him out. Pete says it’s his problem and he should deal with it, but Ricky insists that the best solution is for Peter to go hide in Caitlyn’s nest, and let Ricky cover for him. Peter reluctantly agrees to this, and Ricky tells him not to tell Caitlyn anything – so not to worry her.

New Orleans;
Monica’s friend quizzes her on how she pulled off the whole ‘karate kick thing’. Monica says that she doesn’t know how or why she did it, but says she thinks she saw it on TV. She explains that her body is doing things before she even thinks about it. Her friend hugs her and tells her she’ll be ok.

Philadelphia – Home of Matt’s Dad;
Matt and Nathan arrive, and Nathan tells Matt not to think of this man as his father, but as a suspect. He reminds Matt what the guy did to Molly and Nath’s mother, and tells him to get his gun out and look meeaan!. Matt is still too scared to even knock the door, so Nathan does it. They burst in, to find Matt’s dad pointing a rifle at them. Nathan utters the word ‘Parkman’ and the old man realises that Matt is his son. They ask him what he’s doing to Molly, what he knows about Kaito and why Angela Petrelli is protecting him. He doesn’t offer answers so Matt handcuffs him, while Nathan cocks his shotgun menacingly. Matt’s father says they have it all wrong; he was swinging a shotgun because he received the same marked photo threat as the others – and he was scaring Molly away to protect himself. Nath asks who he’s hiding from, and Matt’s dad answers by asking wich of Angela’s kids Nath is – the politician, right? Nath ignores the question and says that Kaito and his mother received marked photos; that they must be all connected. Matt’s dad explains that the 'originals' were connected; that they developed powers and found each other. He says they wanted to help people – save the world – but Matt reminds him that he’s a coward who only ever wanted to save his own mule... (or was it ass?.. some kind of equine anyway). Nath gets bored and tells Matt to just read the guy’s mind so they can leave. Matt’s dad is excited to learn his son has this power and tells him to try to read his mind. Matt tries, but gets the same painful feedback as he did with Peter - meaning his dad has the same ability.

New Orleans;
Monica arrives home to find Micah playing a masterpiece on the family piano. She sits beside him saying no one has played on it since her mother died. They talk about their mothers, and Micah expresses his worry for Niki. Monica tries to comfort him, saying God never gives them anything they can’t handle. Micah asks if she plays piano too, and she suddenly realises that her hands are on the keys, playing the same tune as he’d played. She jumps up terrified, and hurries from the room.

Brooklyn;
Moh calls HRG, and greets him by nagging that he’s been trying to reach him for hours. He explains what happened to Molly and HRG suggests that he take her to a hospital. Moh says that regular medicine can’t help her and he’s going to take to the company – because they’ll understand what’s wrong with her. HRG reminds Moh that they are the enemy, and not to trust them with what he cares about most, because they’ll have him. Moh decides to take her to them anyway and hangs up. You have to wonder at this point why he bothered calling at all, only to disregard HRG’s advice. Oh well...

Philadelphia – Home of Matt’s Dad;
Matt uncuffs his father, saying he better tell them everything. The guy said he only ever used his powers for his own benefit; that he was weak. Yet Matt is a cop, using his powers for good, and that makes his father proud. Nathan rescues Matt from the awkward moment by grilling Matt’s father on how they intended to save the world. Matt’s dad tells them that some people used their abilities selfishly, to do what they wanted, and that he used his powers to try to stop them. He then turns to Matt and tells him that their ability only begins with mind reading and that it becomes so much more. Matt asks him to explain, and his dad tells them both that he can show them something to help them understand. He leads them both into the same room, but when they enter, they step into their own private nightmares. Matt is in a creepy prison, being roughed up by some guard. Nath is on the Deveaux roof, in a post-explosion New York City. Matt’s father leaves the room, then the apartment, wishing them ‘sweet dreams’. Wow, he looks evil.

Japan;
Ando has a professional restoring Hiro’s scrolls, since some of them are too aged and damaged to read. Te man asks where he got them from, and he says he inherited them – and that the name ‘Ando’ on them is just coincidence (“It’s a common name”). The guy restores the first few scrolls and they read that Hiro is making great progress with Kensei. They have completed many of the trials he had heard about as a child, and they were getting close to rescuing Yaeko’s father. The romance between Kensei and Yerko was also unfolding nicely (tho not so nicely for poor besotted Hiro).

New Orleans;
Micah approaches Monica, who is standing in the kitchen, absently making tomato roses (they must go through a lot of tomatoes in that town). She quickly hides them but he tells her that it’s ok and he understands what is happening to her. He shows her his gift by controlling the kitchen television with just his touch, then he explains that abilities run in the family. He shows her a 9th Wonders comic about ‘St Joan’, who is a muscle-mimic; a copycat. Monica gets excited, finally beginning to understand where all these new skills are coming from. Micah says they should go out and test her powers.

Company HQ;
Molly is still out cold. Bob tells Moh that she will be taken care of and that right now he needs to go find another girl with powers. Bob hands him a tazer, which immediately makes Mohinder anxious. But Bob then explains that it’s standard safety procedure; that some of these people are dangerous or can’t control their powers, and it’s much easier to ask forgiveness than permission. At that moment, Niki (well, Jessica) bursts into the ward. She throws Moh into a wall, then grabs Bob by the throat and begins to strangle him. Moh uses the tazer on her and she collapses unconscious.

New Orleans;
Micah and Monica are out in the street, shopping for new skills to try (like skateboarding or basketball). Moni sees some teens playing with rwo skipping ropes together and admits she was always rubbish at Double Dutch. The teenage girls give her some attitude for staring and ask if she wants something. She watches the kids skipping for a few seconds, then strolls over, saying she wants in. She slips in between the two ropes and begins to skip like a pro, dancing and clapping as she jumps. Micah jumps and claps too, happy to see her enjoying her ability.

Cork;
Caitlyn shows Peter into her flat and he notices some interesting paintings she has made. He comments that her works are amazing, and she asks if that’s why he wanted to go to her home – to search through her things. She asks if he will start liking her less now that he’s unravelling the mystery. He says he just wanted to see where she lived, and maybe sleep on a real bed for a change. He looks suddenly pensive and she asks what’s wrong. He says she was right, and that he should look in the box. But that whatever he finds, he wants to be there with her. He opens it and inside is a passport. She picks it up and reads the name Peter Petrelli. He seems to react to his name as he did when he first heard the word ‘Peter’. The box also contains an open one-way ticket from NYC to Montreal; it seems he was leaving. They also find a picture of him with Nathan, but he doesn’t recognise his brother standing there with an arm about his shoulders. Shame. Peter shoves the stuff back into the box, annoyed that none of it tells him how he got to Ireland and what he was meant to do. (Use Google, Peter! Look yourself up FFS! Type in Petrelli! You’ll recognise your brother! He can tell you everything! They DO have internet in Ireland, you know! Gah!!! ... >_< ...tick... >_O ... tick... >_< ...tick... >_O ... *howdoyoustopanexplodingsqueaker?*)

Peter’s eyes find a blank canvas and he catches a glimpse of an image hidden underneath. He quickly grabs a pallet and some paint, then suddenly his eyes turn white and he begins to paint. He scares poor Caitlyn almost to tears.

Ricky’s Bar;
The pretty blonde stranger enters the bar and asks Ricky if they really serve haggis there. He tells her she’s in Ireland – not Scotland – and she laughs with embarrassment. She cuts to the chase and pulls out a photo of Peter, asking where he is. He says he’s never seen the guy. She points out that a lot of people at the docks have seen Peter at the bar, and that its harder to believe that all of them are lying than it is to believe that Ricky is lying. Ricky tells her again that he hasn’t seen Peter, and says he’s sorry he couldn’t help. The blonde stranger walks to the door and fuses the lock with her electric ability. She says she’s sorry too, and turns on Ricky with blue light shooting from her hands.

Company HQ;
Niki is in a hospital bed, recovering from her recent episode. She apologises to Bob and thanks him for helping her. Bob promises her that he will get her well again, and says he understands what a terrible affliction schizophrenic disorder is. Mohinder looks suspicious. As soon as Bob leaves the room, Moh starts trying to help Niki up to escape. She refuses, explaining to him that she went there of her own free will. She says she’s sick, and that no one else can understand what she is, what she’s done and what she’s capable of. She says they are the only people who can help her.

Matt & Nath’s Nightmares;
Nathan is on the balcony in a burnt and ruined NYC. He hears his name spoken and turns around to see who he thinks is Peter laying on the ground. He immediately smiles, looking overjoyed and relieved, saying “Peter? I knew it, I knew you could survive!” But when he helps the man up, he discovers it to be the burned version of himself, who he keeps seeing in the mirror. The burnt Nathan says he can’t run from him.
Matt is in the prison cell and a baby suddenly appears on the floor, in there with him. She shouts to the guard to come and get the baby out of there, but when he turns back, he sees his ex wife Janice standing there too, holding the baby. She asks why he abandoned them. He says he wasn’t the father, but she says he could read her mind and knew the baby was his. He insists he didn’t know, but she just says again that he abandoned his son, like his father abandoned him, and like he will abandon Molly. She then walks out of the sell, and the guard comes in and starts hitting Matt. They begin to fight.
On the burnt NYC rooftop, Nathan’s burnt self tells him that he’s no hero and everybody’s dead because of him. Nathan says they have to stop the explosion but his burnt self tells him he can’t – that he wants ignorance, not redemption, and that he never feels anything. They start to fight
The scene begins to flash back and fourth between Nathan fighting his burnt self and Matt fighting the guard. It immediately becomes clear that in their respective illusions, they are in fact fighting each other. Matt is the first to realise this, and he starts to shout out to Nathan to stop it. But Nath can’t hear him from within his own dreams. Finally Matt reaches out with his mind, telling Nathan within his own head that it’s an illusion and to wake up. Matt finally manages to break the spell (GoGo Matt!) and they both lay there exhausted.
Matt’s father is gone, so Matt starts tearing up the apartment looking for clues. Nath finds a picture of Bob with the red symbol on it. He’s next.

Japan;
Ando and the restoration expert manage to decipher some more of the parchment. Hiro, Kensei and Yaeko have finally arrived at Whitebeard’s camp and are at the last part of their quest to rescue the sword-smith. The men ask Yaeko to hang back away from danger but she insists on joining them. They walk together to the top of the hill and realise that a whole army stands between them and Whitebeard.
Unfortunately, in the present, the parchment is too damaged to read on. Ando presses the restoration dude to hurry up and fix it.

New Orleans;
Monica is watching some Bruce Lee moves on the TV and is copying them perfectly (good girl!). Micah walks in and tells her she’s amazing. She says she knows it’s amazing but she doesn’t understand why she God gave her this power. She doesn’t know what to do with it. Micah says they are meant to do something good with their gifts, and promises that it’s a good thing. Monica eventually sends Micah to bed. After he’s gone, the door goes – it’s Mohinder, and he tells her that he has answers for her.

Cork;
The blonde femme-fetale Elle is on the phone to her father, who is also her boss. She says she doesn’t have Peter yet but she’s close – and that she had to use a little ‘persuasion’. The man on the phone is clearly chastising her for the way she is conducting her assignment. She tells him that the person she ‘persuaded’ was just some guy (poor Ricky) – and that, all right, she killed him, but what was the big deal? (Sad!!!) The man on the phone calls her off, and she begrudging agrees to leave the assignment and go home. Then she apologises and says it won’t happen again.

Caitlyn’s Apartment;
Peter finishes his painting and suddenly reverts back to normal. He doesn’t remember having painted the picture, so Caitlyn fills him in on how his eyes went dead and she couldn’t make him stop. They look at the image together. It’s a picture of two people who look like them, standing together somewhere with a cathedral and French signposts. They deduce that it could be Montreal, the place on Peter’s plane ticket. Then Caitlyn gets a call about her brother.

Ricky’s Bar;
Caitlyn bursts in, closely followed by Peter. They see poor Ricky laying on the floor, blackened and burned – dead. Caitlyn breaks down in sobs and Peter tells her that it’s all his fault; that the people who did this to Ricky were looking for him. Caitlyn starts punching and hitting him, but she’s too distraught and collapses into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. Peter holds her and says that he’ll find the people who did this – that he can’t hide anymore.

END

Yay! I've been waiting all morning for this! Ok first, if I'm not mistaken this is the first episode in the series that Claire hasn't appeared in! So the streak is over! As far as the content of the episode, I thought it was a pretty good episode. I liked the introduction of Kristen Bell's character. She sure seems to be pretty evil though. Almost Sylar like, but not quite. Seems like she must be where Peter got his electrical skills. Peter finally open up the box, and all they showed was a picture of him and Nathan and a plane ticket to Montreal? Guess they are going to drag this one out.

Matt's dad played him for a fool again! Poor guy! Pretty slick scene though the way that both Matt and Nathan were both seeing different things but it turned out they were fighting each other. So now from Matt's "dream" I'm wondering if the baby with Janice is his or not. They led us to believe it wasn't but after that I'm thinking it could be. It was cool to see Jessica/Niki back in the show even if is was just for a moment.

I liked the scene's with Micah and Monica. I'm wondering if she is that was supposed to be her on the cover of the 9th Wonders that Micah showed her? I think they could've had her do something better than double dutch though to test her skills, but maybe it was a little less obvious.

I rather enjoyed this episode, mostly due to the fact that the story lines (Hiro's and Maya's) I don't much care for weren't shown.

I feel kind of daft right now, because I don't have any ideas or theories about really, anything going on in the show right now. The only thing that has me wondering is who Bell's father is, which I think is Bob.

This was a pretty good EP imo. I still have many questions that are unanswered lol. I'm gonna go with my initial theory and say that Monica will be able to learn other heroes powers that she can see, e.g. flying, fire, telekinesis, etc. This would explain why Suresh went to her house. I remember something being said to Suresh that "some people are too dangerous to have their powers", or something to that effect.

Also, was it foreshadowing when Parkmen's father said something like "You can read minds too? That's how it started with me." Does this mean what I think it means...can some powers evolve? This would be sick.

This is my first post but I've been following these boards for a while...

Is it just me, or did it seem a little too convenient that Mohinder was handed the taser about 10 seconds before Niki/Jessica walked in and starting choking the guy from the Company (Bob I think? not great with names)... I don't know if its just me, but I feel like he was given the taser with the express purpose of using it on Niki/Jessica. Someone in the Company could have known he would be in the right place at the right time. Just a theory. All in all, good episode and I'm starting to really like the Micah/Monica storyline.

Maybe so! Some of the Heroes probably don't fully know their powers yet. Last night Matt was able to get Nathan to snap out of it, by what would seem like a new power he hadn't previously known he had. The words I'm trying to say are escaping me right now. Anyway, I think Matt will be able to do more as he learns his ability.

I kinda liked it, but still alot of unanswered questions. I liked how Monica was watching the Bruce Lee movie! That would be super sweet! As far as the Kristen Bell character, no big surprise there, just left us with more questions. I was more sarcastic on the introduction to her character than anything. Am I the only one out there who wants to see peter unleash some fury? I want to see him really whoop some arse! Remember the feeling in your gut you had in 5YG when Hiro and Peter infiltrated the building and Peter was all like *POW *BAM *WHACK!! Thats what I'm waiting for!!!! Something needs to happen, still waiting for the big payoff!! As far as Molly Walker, WHO FRICKEN CARES!!! What makes this little girl so special? She can locate other people? OOOOHH! Hopefully she stays in the coma! YAY for no WEST!!!! Maybe he flew into a cliff? *checks next weeks episode report* Aww Crap! Anyhoon, the stories to Ando was cool, The MIND FIGHT with Nathan and Matt was very cool! Where can I find an Irish girl with an accent like that? What are yeu talkin a-boot!

IMO, this episode was better than previous ones. But that's because there's no cheesy romance between Claire/West, no twins/Sylar, and so far less Hiro's journey in the past (although I expect more excitement next week than this week's).

Peter's storyline IMHO dragged on in the first half more than the second. But who is Peter working for before amnesia, and how did he get the necklace? and who gave the box to Ricky (before he died Sad )? Why Montreal? As for Elle, either it's great or just as good as average introductions in some shows, but I expect some villian-y in her in further episodes. And yes, I watched Veronica Mars, and Bell's performing talent wasn't that great, even if it's good.

Matty's daddy's a baddy!! Can I say any more of this since the storyline's already been discussed.

Either there's one or two Mohinders. If two (which is obvious), then who was the "Mohinder" in New Orleans? There's no way that Mohinder can fly from NYC to New Orleans just in a time like this, and it's obvious that a person has illusion power. If it's not Candice, then who?

Although I did not enjoy Hiro's storyline in the past, I thought Ando's viewpoint was the highlight in this episode.

I feel thrills and tolds more than seeing kicks and punches.
