Peter is not a very good half-brother to put Claire in that situation, now, is he?
First, Peter is her uncle. Second, I believe somewhere in the last episode Future Hiro said how his time-stopping powers didn't work when Sylar was around, which was why he had trouble killing him when he needed to. Somehow Sylar has the ability to not be effected by it. I don't believe it's a mortality issue. the mother would have been equally effected by this and not frozen. A lapse in his power wouldn't just happen to Sylar.
Watching the episode on NBC.com right now, this is the seqquence of events starting from "Mom please, it's me".
Sylar: "Mom please, it's me."
Mom grabs scissors.
Sylar: "Mom please."
Mom: "My... Gabriel.... you're not"
Mom comes at Sylar with scissors
Sylar: "Mom, Stop... Stop it..."
Mom: "You're not... you're not...
They struggle, ending with Sylar and Mom frozen, blood drops hanging in mid-air, in time.
Hiro enters, unsheathes his sword, and approaches Sylar.
Hiro: "I'm sorry."
Hiro bows his head, raises his sword, with his heartbeat audible now.
There's the sound effect as Hiro raises his sword, Sylar's eye turns to the camera, Sylar's mom falls, and Sylar catches Hiro's sword.
Well then... I retract all that I've said. I will look for the part where Future Hiro says Sylar isn't effected by his time-stopping powers though when I get a chance. Don't have the luxury of watching the scene over at the moment but will when I get home. Thanks Acid.
No problem. I think, though, in Five Years Gone, Sylar may have had another power that could have stopped the time-bending abilities of Hiro. I mean, there were so many powers that they both had that none of us knew about until this week! They never showed Peter using super speed or lightning bolts. So, there may be some backstory to it.
In any case, whatever it was doesn't seem to apply in the present time-line.
Hi there, a kinda newbie here.. (new in the sense that i only just signed up...)
After just watching ep21 i gotta admit, they have the episode cliff hangers down to an art now don't they?? I mean, how evil was it to end it like that!! i nearly punched out my monitor!
As for the Hiro debate, i think along the same lines as Acidtwister in that Hiro's powers are still unstable for him to be able to control them even when his sub-concious thinks better of it. I'd still like to see how they mend that sword though.. considering that last week we saw "Future Hiro" with it intact.. (although they can always claim a time-line shift as hiro wasn't supposed to kill him for two more days....)
I'm loving this series so much, and i can't wait to see the finale, if only to see how they are going to top this..
From what i gather so far, only Mohinder has been retained for next season, with the petreli's looking odds on. Linderman is going to be playing a bigger role next season, but i think i'll go into that in more detail after the finale
**Hiro's powers appear to be much more "management intensive." He actually has to focus them on something, such as a point in time, or he should be, otherwise he will end up elsewhere in time. Moreover, he needed an 'object' perhaps more than anything just to convince himself worthy of said powers and protect himself, not to actually USE them, otherwise it would be the sword which has the powers, or activates the powers. It would be a good fail safe, should Sylar get to him.
**How could Sylar grab Claire's powers? The only known way to slow down Peter or Claire is the location at the base of the skull, which only temporarily deactivates them, and doesn't kill them...unless you also ripped their brains out, or decapitated them. Both only theories. So with that said...
If Sylar is alive in the future, Claire MUST be dead for Sylar to be the bomb, or Sylar would die, wouldn't he? If Sylar is dead, and the bomb goes off, then it's Ted or Peter, of which Ted maybe dead, but Peter isn't.
**It makes sense it COULD be Peter, since his already somewhat harmless powers put him into a many-day coma. What would absorbing such a violent power on top of other unmanagable powers do? What Claire SHOULD do is stun Peter, say with the Tranq they did with Ted, then let him absorb. Invisible dude taught Peter he has to FOCUS on the person to activate and control it. Evidently Peter isn't doing that, and is only AFRAID of what he is doing.
**Is it possible that Sylar gets Ted and in the process he detonates Ted? In the Five Years Ahead skit, he had his power, which would indicate Ted should be dead.
**It's also possible that b/c it's their power, they're immune to its effects, NO matter how big, and that Sylar gains the shape-shifting ability, mimics Peter, frames him as public enemy #1 and then vies for the Presidency. He did say he wanted it, which should be some Foreshadowing of his desire to kill miss shapeshifter.
**Anyone else think mohinder to be a pawn? I mean...he not only cures the girl who can find the heroes, just like XMEN, but they also have the blood disease which INHIBITS a heroes' power, so that if they COULD inject Sylar, he would die, or at least be normal until cured. That's a double whammy, that he didn't realize is a byproduct.
**Micah appears, from the preview, to provide some sort of SHIELD or FORCEFIELD. It looked as if the bomb goes off, and everyone in that building is saved because he has a power of protection. Has he indicated such a power in previous episodes I missed? I've never seen it, but for a 10 year old, he does remakably well.
**I think the bomb has to go off, who it is, I don't know. Unless there's a BIGGER plan in place, that MIGHT get botched up, such as Nathan becoming president, while Sylar gets the ability to copy him and rule, too.
**The future isn't necessarily the future, with all the time travel, who knows what things have been altered. How close to the comics are we? Are people just playing into what's happening because of faith? But faith in who or what? I think Season 2 should or will delve deeper into what plans were arranged before this new crop of heroes came into their power. Remember, Claire's grandmom KNEW about the madness going on, as if there was a worldwide struggle BEFORE the season we're in. PLUS, Linderman has been around awhile, and he referenced friends who he'd worked with, too. So something was brewing before this plot, it just seems that the the first go around, say the PREQUEL to this season went one way...where they learned what didn't work...and now, they're doing it another way with this crop of heroes.
**If Linderman has these paintings, is it possible a painter of Isaacs nature has always been around, and so has Linderman? Just b/c Isaac is dead, doesn't mean someone in time with the same ability doesn't exist, or hasn't existed, and maybe all the paintings or art is just that, a foretellling of the future, and Linderman is a caretaker of that, despite what people think of him. Heck, if you examine Claire's dad, through many of the episodes, you wouldn't know he was good. And I'd never seen Ted turning into a mini hero, one who is like Pyro from XMEN who is tempted by both sides because of his past. Even Sylar is the same way, until now that is. They need evil, and Sylar fits that perfectly. Unless Linderman and company turn out to be even worse than we know, Sylar stays where he is, like Magneto, a rogue of sorts who just wants to kill those with abilities who don't appreciate them.
I like Sylar, and I like his Character, and the Actor who plays him.
Hey Ricky, you are following A LOT of the thoughts which have been discussed in the numerous board sections in these forums...stick around, as I think you'd enjoy the thoughts and theories here and be able to add to them with your line of thinking (one thought for you...did Sylar really have Ted's power in the future episode?? or was that ice in/on his hands??
Hi, im new to the forums in terms of posting but have reada few threads before. I was just wondering if anyone thinks the ice power that sylar has will feature at all as im pretty sure we wern't told where he got it yet? That would be interesting to see. I was also loving/hating the cliffhanger ending!
I can't see how Nathan and Peter will remain close. Hell, I can't see how Peter and any of the corrupted indivudals around him (his mom?) will stay close either. Peter, assuming he can stop from going nuclear right now, also will gain Parkman's power of mind-reading (or at least be aware that he can do that).
It wouldn't take much to read the minds of his brother or mother and figure out just what is going to happen.

I still can't figure out why Peter doesn't realize that he has Parkman's ability already....he dense and clueless if you ask me (i.e. going to find Ted when he should know he'll absorb his ability, which in turn, would help his vision come to fruition)

Yeah, they've never confirmed where he got that power from, but it appears they are going to start showing it more, as they glimpsed it in string theory, and then pretty much featured it in last night's episode (and the only other showings we'd seen of it were with Molly's dad's body frozen, and him freezing the road in the online graphic novels)....I still think he got it from Molly's dad, but there isn't confirmation on that...hard to say if and when the writers will confirm what powers he all has and where he got certain powers from
