I'm of the mindset that Peter used some form of Ted's ability to shock that man. Electromagnetic shock can still do the same thing. It creates a shockwave, and can stun folks as well. So I'm not of any thought that he's gotten any newer powers.
I'm kind of bummed about the whole HRG and Mohinder plot.. It seems a bit too trite for it to really work well.
Hiro and Kensei is going to be interesting, but for now the main problem is getting that story going. Keep the interest up!
The writers have been hyping this episode for so long that to see it like it was last night is a bit of a let-down, personally.
They guaranteed that it would blow us away, but aside from one twist, nothing really suprised me. Maybe it's because we've got such great minds here on this site that we've already covered all the plot angles they could throw at us, but mostly this episode just left me with a feeling of "That's it?"
I'm really unimpressed with the advertising that's even going on during the show. I really and honestly think that it needs to stop. Nissan needs a new way to advertise, and somehow I don't think they're going to stop using this cash cow anytime soon..
Further, some of these scenarios are going to get a bit boring, if they don't come up with an interesting story. The stuff's been done, just get on with the storytelling!
It's at the crossroads, imo. Heroes could become one of those strong lasting series that goes on for several years and wins awards, or it could quickly fade into obscurity. The story feels on-the-edge of either outcome. I don't know what I'd do to improve it, I'm not a writer, just a fan
The positive side is that I think they have VERY strong actors and interesting characters to work with. I wonder where the writers will go next?
You've got the 90210 story with Claire, the Alias story with the Company, X-Files with Maya, John Doe with Peter, CSI with the frequent gore scenes, etc... Will that be the "theme" of Heroes? Trying to be a little bit of everything, with pew pew laser powers thrown in? Or will it settle into whichever mold the fans lean towards?
I don't know and I'm not sure I care. I'm just enjoying the ride.
Overall a good episode. Very odd how Peter ended up in there. He either did mimic Ted's EMP power or he might possibly have used a power of one of those men that was near him, (more then likely thier leader) unkowingly of course. If he can't remember who he his he probaly can't recollect the way people in his past has made him feel therefore unable to use those old powers until he can remember them. (though they are still stored within him, i hope)
Matt's storyling is pretty cool. I like how he is using his powers in a very positive way and getting into the NYPD. Of course his divorce is odd. It seemed him and his wife were working on thier relationship well enough at the end of the last season. Having Matt and Mohinder taking care of Molly is a good twist. She'll bring most of the worst evil into this season I'd guess. But a good storyline nonetheless. Also I enjoy how Mohinder (matt too? not-confirmed for sure yet I don't think) is working with Noah Bennet to take down the company.
As for the Bennets I'm under the impression all of them remember all they can from the explosion to the current time. Claire I do see having a difficult time not being herself in a new school but hopefully the new flying friend will help her out. Not sure exactly where her story is going this season though...
Nathan seems to be wayy to down in the dumps. Guess this just shows how much he did love his brother. I wonder what happened though, he still did win the election, I wonder if he just did not take office then, We'll find out I suppose. And that face in the mirror I think was just his imagination of when he saw Peter explode and perhaps what he invisions him to look like.
As for Kaito and Angela I'm surprised how quickly Kaito was killed, (or was he?) I'm curious as to what power he had if he did have one. I find it really ironic just a few weeks ago in the online novels he scared away those bikers chasing his daughter and Ando and he is so easily grabbed and thrown off a roof this episode. Doesn't sit well with me thats all... As for Angela I hope she will ward off this attack on her and not die yet. I think we have much more to learn from her and Kaito.
For anyone out there who is hyping themselves up for a spectacular show like the season finale or something close to it for a season premiere is way off. They'll never show the best stuff first, what'd be the point to watching the rest of a boring season. Just sit tight, mute the damn Nissan commercials, and watch
Well it wasn't quite what i was expecting but then again i dont know what i was expecting. In my eyes, the episode set us up for the rest of the series instead of bombing us with new twists and turns from the off.
I am confused at how Peter got into that crate, but i think thats what the producers wanted from us: confusion. Sets us up for the next episode and wanting to watch it to find out X,Y and Z.
Matt's side of the story seems like what we expected but him AND Mohinder adopting Molly wasn't quite what i thought it would have had been. (I thought it would have had been one or the other, not both.
I did giggle when i saw that HRG had got himself practically the same job as he had left Texas with (paper salesman like thing). His 'boss' doesn't seem too happy with him, but good on HRG for doing what he did , I did query the choice of the family's new name 'Butler', if they didn't want the company to know where they were, wouldn't they have had changed it completely. Lyle has changed, but thats what 4 months does to you, can still tell its the same actor though. Claire interested me in the way she tried to fit into her new school by being quiet and 'uninteresting' as her dad told her to be. Personally i would have had tried to make a few more friends meself.
Alejandro and Maya seem like a good pairing to have had brought in with Alejandro cancelling out Maya's ability, quite how he does it interests me.....is he like a new haitian and can Maya control her ability or not.
Seems like Kaito is dead, good and proper....and looks like Angela is going the same way. Good on Nathan for kicking her out, finally had the guts to speak the reality even if he was drunk at the time.
West, as we saw, can fly and seems to have realised that Claire is hiding something. But having had said that, it did seem like he was the only one that 'interacted' with her.
Thats my perspective on the whole episode.....I enjoyed it
1. Nathan saw a reflection of a disfigured Peter in the mirror.
2. Maya killed everyone in the truck with a side effect of all the victims bled from their eyes(Not Ink!)
3. Peter used his telekenic power he aquired from Syler to throw the Irish gangster away, the same power Syler used to push Hiro away in the last epsiode and stop the bullets Matt fired at him, (Not Electromagnetic Shock).
Ok, now I am going to make a wild statement. Claire's new boyfriend can fly. Claire will fall in love with him. Claire will find out that he is Nathan son from another affair he had and get bummed out that he is her half brother.
Did anyone else noticed that before Hiro's dad found his death picture in the newspaper that Ando gave him, and while Ando was walking over to him, Ando actually bumped into Nathan in the crowd - somewhat of a cameo appearance for Nathan, you could call it.
So here's what I think and I could be totally off base - Nathan is really Peter, Peter is really Sylar, and the flying boy in Claire's class is actually Nathan. I don't know how or why - just a gut feeling. So this would mean Peter wants Hiro's dad (and his motehr) dead???
BTW I think that Kinsei turns out to be Sark (from Alias) is ubber cool.
TV Guide has even more. Here's what Kring says about West, Claire's romantic interest to be:
Naturally, Dad freaks when Claire falls for hottie student West (Nick D' Agosto), who has a special talent of his own: The kid can fly.
"Nathan [Claire's birth father] can fly and I like the irony that West can, too. We're introducing the idea that there are circles of people who possess the same power."
The writers have been hyping this episode for so long that to see it like it was last night is a bit of a let-down, personally.
THANK YOU JORM!!! Finally another person says it. They left us hanging so hard at the end of last season that we DESERVED better from this episode. You can say I'm just griping, a whiner, I don't care -- I waited 4 friggin months to find out what happened to Peter and the rest of the "gang" and this is what they gave us? Now, that's not saying that I'll stop watching . . . no friggin way . . . Now we HAVE to watch, if we want to know what happened.
On the Alejandro and Maya front . . . I'm of two minds. (A) There are already a buttload of plotlines going, some of which they didn't even touch on (Sylar's fate, Niki and Micah, etc.). Adding these new characters is obviously going to tie in intimately with Mohinder's little undercover op to take down the company, and perhaps in finding a cure for this virus that's whomping our heroes. Still, it's just that much more episode time that will be taken away from the storylines we know from last season!!!! THIS PISSES ME OFF. (B) How cool is this whole brother-sister co-op power thing? Alejandro gets separated from Maya, and a truckload of people die some horrible eye-leaky plague death. What exactly is her power? Is it only her ignorance of it that is killing people, or was she born to put Black Death to shame??? Also, Alejandro -- IS he another Hatian-type, or is his power only linked to his sister? Obviously, hers "works" without him (if, in fact, it's not just some issue of a lack of knowing how to control it on her part), so does his work without her? Can he suppress other people's powers? Okay mods, I'll take any more toughts to the proper thread, but I had to vent a little first. Ramble done, Stoney out.
Ok.. Not to be rude.. But you people need to start thinking outside the box. To everyone that said that they didnt like the episode because it only created more question... GET OVER IT. This show is similar to other series such as Lost in that the point of the show is to make forum boards like this. Discussing it and having people make theories. If you dont like that then why bother. Its no different than the first season. It seems for every question answered... 2 more are created. I LOVE IT =)
OK, more on the first episode. Alot of things happened that people seem to be interpretting in all the same way. Here's some different things.
1. If we remember back to the episode when they showed the future, Sylar was Nathan... Now im not proposing thats the case at all. I actually have a fealing after watching the part where Nathan looks in the mirror to see the disfigured face, that its not Sylar but Peter. It looks exactly like peter petrelli. Nathan is dead, but Peter is ashamed of what happened so he made himself look like his brother. The Peter that was locked up in the cage was really Sylar. Peter never had ice powers... but Sylar did. The amnesia could be do the fact that all the fighting was to much for him to handle, or whoever drug him off into the sewers brain washed him into thinking he was Peter, so he could get in with the Mrs. and Nathan (who is peter).
2. The boogie in the hoodie is Nathan (Peter). At both points in the episode nathan was in a position to put the picture with the symbol into the hands of Mr. Nakamuri, and Mrs. Patrelli. IF you watch on the street, Nathan passes Ando as he's going to give the newspaper to Mr. Nakamuri. And.... Nathan is the one who enters the house first, so he could have posted the picture outside on the wall. Nathan (really peter) would have many reason to want to get back at his mother, and anyone who was in on blowing up NYC.
1. They killed his brother.
2. They wanted blow up NYC.... ENUF SAID
3. He know's they are evil
3. I also think that Hiro is going to become the heroe he always read about, getting the sword from the chick ( who should have been hot imo) and returning back in time to save the day.
4. Alajandros and Maya are both very special indeed. At first when i thought of alagjanndros being able to contain his sisters powers i thought that his was like the hatians. But my mind slowly changed, and decided that the reason why his sisters powers are controlled around him are because she feels safe when she's with him. Maya's powers are to make people brains over heat and more or less explode. Hense the blood out of the eyes. I mean people are just saying that her powers make peoples eyes bleed... WTF kind of power is that lol, theres more to it... NOw onto alajandro. His power is super speed. Think about it.. At one point he said to maya, "I told mother i'd never let you slow me down," and Maya said that she was "tired for running for 800 miles." I dont think that was an exageration. And in that case who runs 800 MILES!!!. Now Pretty Boy Alajandro gets thrown off the truck for not letting his sister sit up front. And as the car drives away Alajandro is left in a beaten mess. He then manages to catch the truck? Even if she killed them all... He still found it the same night. He was beaten up at night, and the truck was found at night. Come on thats a little fishy to.
5. Im a bit sad not to see Micka and Nicky. Im sure they will be shown in future episodes consiering they killed linderman.
6. MAN WHAT A COOL POWER. METAL - GOLD.... I want to be richer than fort knox =(.
7. I still feel that Mohinder has a power. I just cant put a finger on what i could possibly be.
8. Noah Kicked ass, it was awsome. Made my night.
Well thats pretty much all i can think of from the first episode. Im reallly excited to see more episodes and see if my theories were right at all.
Let me know what you think, i know its far out there, but who know's, I didnt expect nathan to fly away with Peter last season. Alot of unexpected stuff does happen.

You are right about #2, but wrong about everything else. #1 Nathan saw himself, not Peter. #3 He used some sort of electric shock and not TK. TK never had anything "shoot ou" from his hands. And Claire's new bf doesnt "fly" as much as he controls wind (and possibly weather). He will not be Nathan's offspring either.
Of course, currently those are all my opinions, but I think before Halloween I'll be shown to be right.

At one point of time when I watch that episode, I have exactly the same idea. But what put it off is the problem that Peter has not met Candice, neither do Sylar.
I mean it make sense that Peter being a emo-type of guy would rather give up his own identity to lesser his mother's grief. (it was hinted alot of times that Nathan was her favorite son)
It would also help explain Peter's short hair, not that its important.
But... this theory probably won't work as its quite hard to believe that both Peter and Sylar got Candice power at the same time..... unless Sylar had eaten her Brain before their confrontation in season 1 finale.
Anyway, its nice to see someone who share the same thoughts.
I see that no one has touched on this....maybe I am too big of a Heroes fan:
When the Irish thugs found Peter in the crate, you all saw how he said he did not know who he was...
and did u notice he was wearing that symbolic necklace.
Well if you remember...The Haitian always wore that necklace throughtout all of Season one. and in the earlier episodes S1 EP 1-5 when he performed his MIND WIPE. He would first kiss the necklace and then cleanse the mind. Like Claires handsy EX boyfriend.
UMMM. Could the Haitian (who we did not see in S2 EP1) have something to do with Peter's memory loss...and why does he have the Haitians necklace?

Someone did touch on that. You need to read more of the posts. Especially the one on "Haitian Mindwiped Peter". No offense though.
