Here is a poem I wrote about myself as seen from my future girlfriend's eyes.

Sentimental Fool
(Learn to Walk on Coals)

You are so hard to fathom
Yet so easy to get to know
Sentimental and deep as a chasm
Ever-waiting for your valley to show

Will you ever let your fears go?
So you can let your love in?
Bitten many times - heal so slow
But you still find time to make me grin

Afraid of the damage of sin
You tend to seek and hide
Different from all the rest of them
Your eyes look as if they’ve laughed and cried

Are you just a sentimental fool?
When you’re sure you’re unstoppable
But fear and doubts save and grave you
I guess I’ll just have to learn how to walk on coals

How can you be so open-minded?
Yet so stubborn when you choose wisdom?
Could use more focus but you’re multi-sighted
How do you maintain your multi-discipline discipline?

Curiosity of a child keeps your eyes from dim
Still have shadow, but at least it’s leashed
You are creating your own hymn
Incredibly both teacher and teached

Are you just a sentimental fool?

Walk on coals, I gotta
I have to learn how to walk on coals
Have to see that the fire of you is actually warmth
Risk the flames and the fear of pain
Walk the coals; there is enough to gain
That I have to lose my doubts, no refrain
I loose my shoes, clear my fear
Can I be in the moment?
All that’s left is to take the first step
And never stop, for a moment’s thought
Will burn right thru my soles
When I’d rather have our souls burn together
My gentle loving sentimental soul
