This week's GN addresses the "liquid man" mentioned in last night's episode ("The Line").
It goes back in time to when Ivan was training Noah. Ivan's partner, Maarten, has pyrokinesis (pyrogenesis?). They're looking for a nameless man who can turn into liquid. Noah reveals that this happens just as the Company has switched to a new method of dealing with the specials they encounter...Apparently their m.o. hasn't always been "bag n' tag." They used to kill specials.
Anyhow, they encounter the Liquid Man, and Liquid Man turns part of himself into liquid and splashes Maarten, dousing his fire. Noah suggests trapping him in the boxcars. Ivan starts shooting at him while Maarten shoots fire at him, to get him to run in a certain direction. When they have him cornered, Noah comes in and shuts the door on the boxcar.
The end.
I don't get the Easter Egg for this week: http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/downloads/chapter57_ee.jpg
What does that have to do with anything? I'm confused. |

Oh goody. A "fire bender" and a "water bender" I said, when I read this graphic novel. Is there are no lengths these writers will go to borrow material, now they'll borrow from a kid's comic/cartoon?
Hey action, at least they guy in the easter egg wasn't picking somewhere, you know....
Anyhow, this turned-out to be a pretty good story.
Here is a new fire starter "Maarten". There is of course Ivan, the guy who trained HRG. We do not get the name of the "water bender" (or "water-power") guy.
Random questions I have:
Will we see Maarten again this season?
Will we ever see the "water-bender" again?
This MUST be important if they put it in this GN, don't you think? So are we missing a clue? Is the easter egg the clue?
Oh, and what the heck was in the box car that they captured him in? It looked like something from "Aliens"!!! |

Interesting. They changed the Easter Egg picture.
What was that all about?? NBC is dropping the ball with their online content. First they mess up the 360 stuff for this week (I refuse to call it "Evolutions" dang it!), now they mess up something as simple as a linked image. *sigh* |

| I thought it was a pretty good GN. I like the introduction of a couple new characters. I too wonder if they will be making appearances in the show. I'm a little confused though. If Ivan trained HRG, then what was that all about in Season 1 when they paired him with Claude? Made me believe Claude trained him??!!! Don't guess it matters too much. Cool to see Noah without the glasses. I'm sure there's a story to why he started wearing them. |

it was just explaining Ivan's comment about "where we captured the Liquid Man" and showing us their past relationship.
i doubt we'll see these people ever again. |

Didn't we see in "Six Months Ago" that Claire picked them out?
Which begs the question, if he just started wearing the HRGs when Claire picked them out, how recently did he tag West?
EDIT: It was in "Company Man" and took place in 2003. Nevermind. |

i want to see more pyrokenisis... and heroeswiki had defined the liquid man's power as "Water Mimicry" where he is able to mimic anything water can do.
overall better novel than we have been seeing, i enjoyed this one. |

Heroeswiki is not always right because it is written by fans like us.
They definitely got the whole Elle power completely wrong.
I completely disagreed with their explanation or definition.
I am more inclined to call him a "Water Bender" (from "Avatar: The Last Airbender") than anything else. He did not generate the water, BUT he was able to manipulate the water or moisture around him....
At least, that's how I saw it. |

Huh. I wonder if Maarten is Meredith's father?? lol
Anyway, interesting read, but all it's doing is giving us the backstory on HRG and Ivan. We're supposed to guess that HRG and The Haitian are now back around that railcar, and looking at those paintings.
Dunno. Kind of interesting, but really quite a useless GN for what they could have done with it, to be completely honest.. |
