I think the hobo theory seems likely, but who knows.... At least we are sure about a few things He's well... a male...lol and completely crackers, nutcase, and just plain crazy.... so that doesn't help at all Man, I never was good at those "who done it" books ...

Sylar = Nikki??? Oh come on, no way!!!
- Sylar, we think he's the patient zero and has very strong control of his power(s)
- Nikki is just "learning", and goes Nikki 2 for only some shorts of time.
Somewhere i read Sylar is not Patient Zero, according to on the receiver machine Dr Suresh talked to him as he wanted nothing from him... But he has contact with him, another mistery.
About that rumbling homeless: his appear made no sence!!! Just nobody from the crowd, speaking quite loud, going that near to Nathan and Mojinder... Maybe the writers just want to make us go false ways but if it has no importance, why was he this obtrusive?

So what would happen if Peter came in Contact with nikki? One might hazard to guess that his darkside would come forth. Mixed with other "mimicked" powers, this might potentially be Sylar? I'm just BSing here.
after looking at this photo. i have to sadly come to this realization.
1 the lighting is bad and maybe its a shity enechment program. but there is a lot of features that say scar. mostly the bluish tint. now i know his hair is coming outa the cap. i know he's white and has a mustache and poorly shaven. but that blueish tint would be diffrences in lighting on the face- scares (think enemy of the state. when the package "shifted" the lighting changed. samething) the lighting on the face is vastly diffrent which means indents(scars)
so who do we know in the future has scars. Peter
remeber hiro said something like peter be the one we need and you dont know how many times you felt lost before. meaning that he does not feel utilized and as we know from xmen( which the show seems a lot like) muties that feel that way become evil. so maybe he killed hiro in the future and took his powers. this would explain a whole lot. the apartment cleaned up. why sylar would go after a little girl (maybe she can stop him in the future) and the RNA symbol might be a way of telling the muties in the future. or maybe its there groups thing. idk. just some thought from an old Military intell guy
I thought the homeless guy was just putting perspective into the scene... Mohinder was thinking "I cant believe I'm doing this, I must be crazy"... and Nathan was thinking "this guy's a nutcase"... and who walks by?... a babbling lunatic!... they both watch him pass and think "yup that about sums it up" and the conversation ends... homeless guy could have easily just been a minor symbolic storytelling device
anyway
I rewatvhed the first epis and listened to the anwering machine in ep2 carefully...
This is the conversation:
Hello Chandra ... Why won't you talk to me? ...You cant leave me like this
"Hello, Mr Sylar? I asked you not to call here any more"
The hunger... it's... I can't controll it... i don't want to... You made me this way
"I made you a murderer?"
You helped me to discover my potential... you wanted to see what i can do as much as i did, and now you want it to stop
"It's over. Goodbye."
and the two cops before Matt finds the hiding girl
"I've got a theory."
You always do
"This is Barstow over and over again. It's Sylar."
There is no Sylar. Last words of a dying victim. It doesn't mean anything.
"The little girl's priority"
Soooooo we may have the real name of Sylar, and from the tape: his powers came light with the presence of Dr Suresh - and he's eating those brains...
As someone else pointed out to me, the freezing/boiling may in fact be a highly specialized form of telekinesis. Think about it. Temp is determined on the speed of the molecules moving. If you stopped all someone's molecules from moving, they would freeze. and the inverse, made them all move faster, they would melt.
Awesome catch on telekineses and affecting temperature.
I also believe that Sylar is taking their brains for their powers. So far he has frost powers and telekinetic. Stopping the bullets would be both/either using his telekinesis or a flak jacket he was shot in the chest.
I feel the need to address the stopping the bullets thing. The consensus seems to be that it was telekinesis. I am not disputing that, I just wanted to note an observation. He was shot with a pistol, a hand gun of sufficient caliber to knock him off his feet. If you have seen people with vests shot, or if you have a basic knowledge of physics, you'll see that there needs to be sufficient force of impact on a heavy but still moveable object. Thus a man in a vest can actually be thrown back or dropped. The idea of Sylar wrapping his body in telekinetic energy is akin to the idea of the personal forcefield, not only is it impractical, but if it was done it shouldn't have the effect of throwing someone down. One would expect it to merely stop (AKA neo in the matrix) or be deflected. We saw them drop, so assuming they were stopped... WTF? Why the drop back. Perhaps he had to put up the shield late and the bullets had just barely hit him, thus they were stopped from penetrating, but they still caused impact trauma.
Like I said, I'm not disputing the TK angle, I'm trying to find a good explanation for that discrepancy. Then again, this is tv. The writers and director couldn't think up every angle and eventuality. That's the beauty of this show. It forces the fans to overthink and chase false positives. I love it! I wonder if the writers scour boards like this to see our speculations and use them sometimes to close loops. There have been certain shows where I've noticed that happen, but it always seems like I'm the only one who sees it.
I felt the need to interject that it seems hollywood firearms physics are in force here, so I do believe that he was wearing a vest and the bullets knocked him back.
[rant]In real life, of course, bullets do not knock people back. Ever. Period. This is an urban myth that has evolved around a hollywood stunt method. People do not go flying back when shot, even with a 50-caliber, a buck shot, sawed-off shot gun, whatever. It doesn't really happen.[/rant]
That said, with hollywood physics in effect, guns knock people back. Sylar was shot. A telekinetic force field would have stopped the bullets, but not knocked Sylar back.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who believes this, but I disagree on one score. A .45 may not drop someone with a vest but there will be a noticeable thud and force impact. At that velocity, even a pea shooter could elicit a responses. But I fully agree with you. In Hollywood physics, the drop should not have happened... if he was using telekinesis. Then again, maybe he is like Claire and the bullets dropping from him is more Akin to Wolverine in X2 when he's shot in the head. Flesh and dermal regeneration forcing the bullets out of his flesh and unto the floor. When you look at it from both real world and Hollywood land science, it couldn't have been telekinesis. In fact, I'm looking at it again now, and you see that he definitely drops and is still for a moment... I think those bullets hit and penetrate his flesh. Like Claire would have been, he was definitely knocked down and then he healed/regenerated. I think this is going to be my stand on the whole Sylar business. They need to hurry up and tell us his story! It's 2:25am It will be on in 17 hours and 35 minutes. i can't wait... I need sleep and to go to work.
A force field would effectively act as a body vest if it is wrapped around himself. According to physics the force doesn't go away, it just disperses. A vest us used to change the force from penetrating one specific part, causing internal damage, to just impact damage over the entire body. Depending on how its distributed, if the shot would knock him down without the vest, it would with the vest. The force field is just distributing the force like the vest, and it could still knock him down. It works in the matrix like it does, because its inside a computer where true physics need not apply. This is all speculation on how telepathy and force fields work. THere is no concrete manual seeing how its just an imagined thought of man, not a naturally occuring phenomenon.
My thoughts on the physics of the matter.
Other than advanced telekinesis that works on the molecular level, or some form of power stealing, I can't think of one that encompasses all of the effects he has managed. So far all the heroes only have one power, even if Hiro's manifests itself in a multitude of ways. If the enemy can have more than one, there's a chance the heroes can develop more. Superman was superstrong, could fly, had x-ray vision, etc. They might not be limited to one single power. We'll just have to wait till tonight.
