Here's the thing about that theory:
I went back to read that online comic about D.L. titled Snapshots, and a couple things stood out...
1) At the beginning of the comic when D.L. is being interrogated, in the upper left-hand corner it says "Almost 6 months ago". It was during this interrogation scene that D.L. "slipped" out of handcuffs.
2) Near the end of the comic when D.L is in his cell it says at the top of the page "Some time later". Now I'll admit, "some time later" is ambiguous to say the least. So how long is "some time later"? Well, in this scene D.L. makes reference to the trial being a joke and that he never stood a chance, but he says that's not what's been bugging him. "What happened back in that interrogation room.....and more importantly, can I do it again?" He tries it again, is successful, and now he's a fugitive. So that brings us to present day with D.L. in Niki's house...
Those that believe in "the eclipse started it" theory would then have to believe that the eclipse happened 6 months ago because we know that this was the very first time D.L.'s powers were revealed to him.
Now, I haven't seen anything in the previous episodes that would indicate that it has been 6 months from the time of the eclipse to now...
Something to think about. |

Hiro teleported after the Eclipse 5 weeks into the future. So if it has been 6 months then the End of the world has come and gone. |

Interesting...I saw on IMDB's list of episodes, that Episode #10 is titled "Six Months Ago"...coincidence?? There's no details about this episode, just thought this was interesting based on Capt. Savem's observation...nice! |

everybody began developing their powers before the eclipse... but regardless.... everybody still began developing them around the same time... if it were a genetic thing (as the show leads us to believe), I would assume the powers would either be there from birth, or trigger with age (a la X-Men)... but we can see there's a very large age range of people gaining powers at about the same time for some reason..... and the eclipse is the only major world event that brings the whole thing together -- triggering an awakening of these powers in everybody carrying the proper DNA at **ROUGHLY** the same time
so either the power is not genetic and has some other origin, or there is another trigger which took effect on a world scale and the show just neglected to present it to us in some silly scooby-doo fashion |

Everyone really started to realize their powers at the eclipse.
It's sort of a... new beginning like thing. They all knew they were gonna have a different life...
The "New Beginning." |

| Maybe Sylar is broadcasting some sort of high pitched signal that is unlocking their powers so that he can find them. Think about it..... |

| Maybe there was something being broadcast that was hindering the powers for most of them, but during the eclipse it was blocked. Once the powers are realized then they can't be hindered anymore. |

There is a theory that Matt lives with 12 years before everyone else - so the eclipse was 12 years earlier? ... hmm... maybe there were to eclipses... one for Matt, one for everyone else hihi
Or Matt's powers revealed 12 years earlier than anyone else... |

Oh now there is something interesting I hadn't considered. Like he wants them all to realize their powers at a precise time for one reason or another. |

| It is possible that the eclipse is what has trigged the force/person who is going to detonate the bomb in the future, and our heroes are simply discovering their powers in their own time. |

| I think the eclipse is just there to show a major change in perspective. |

| The eclipse was a plot device used to give all of the characters (which were spread out across the world) something in common, and to show that they were all experincing these things at the same time. |

I think the eclipse has nothing with them realizing their powers.
Cause if this is true, then why does Sylar have his way before them? We know this because of the msg sylar left for moheinder's father, saying he was stronger now or something of that sort. I agree with the person above, that the eclipse was just to show they all had something in common, since it is a worldwide event and they all witnessed it. |
