A private theory of mine is that everyone has seen
during their childhood some special film that
totally freaked them out and scared the wits out of them.
It doesn't even have to be a horror film,
perhaps it was some Disney cartoon or some
old television show that caused you nightmares
and months of heart pounding panic
whenever you heard something go bump in the night.
For me it was seeing William Castle's 13 Ghosts
on TV way back when I was about ten years old.
The film was a gimmicky black and white movie
filmed in 1960 in a 3D process called Illusion O
that was supposed to make the ghosts come out whenever
you put on the special glasses during their scenes...
I didn't have those glasses back in 1969 when I saw it
and I didn't need them because those ghost haunted me
for many months to come in my dreams!
So come on and don't be chicken
tell us about the movie or show
that scared you as a child. |

| E.T. did it for me. It was especially scary to me near the end when they have him in the quarantine area, and there were those plastic tunnels and stuff.... scared the bejesus out of me for a long time. To this day I've only ever seen the movie once. |

Back when I was about 5 or 6 my older brother invited me to watch Child's Play 2 with him. It was less of the movie that scared me and more of something else. I'll continue.
A day or so later I realized I had a doll type thing called My Buddy that looked like a blonde Chucky. I got so freaked out, I stuffed him in my parents' closet. Then I would go to school and when I'd get back home, he'd be sitting there in the rocking chair in my room. This went on for a little after a month until I told my mom about it.
Turns out she couldn't figure out why the My Buddy kept showing up in her closet so she would keep putting it in my chair. After that, I'm happy to say, he spent his final days in our crawlspace. |

I'd have to say that mine isn't so much a movie, as it was a TV series.
My dad was a fanatic when it came to watching "The Twilight Zone"
This was also back when Rod Sirling was still the narrarator, and the black and white screen was still in full swing. The scariest two that I remember were the ones when the dolls were actually alive and killing off children, and the one where three-eyed aliens were slowly disgusing themselves, and taking over a skiing resort.
I don't know why those two were so memorable, but I still to this day have some nasty 'flashbacks' of those images from time to time.... |

Well, I don't mind. After all, I love the thrill of getting spooked. I guess it's one of the major reasons that I go on "ghost hunts" during the month of October..
We go do haunted house calls, travel to weird cemetaries and take photos, basically anything suggested to see if we can find anything spooky. Mainly, we just split off, and try to scare the heck out of each other in creepy places, but heck, at least it's interesting and fun!
I've had a couple of 'experiences' that I really don't know how to explain, but I'd say that 95% of our exploration only ends with a couple of fuzzy pictures, and some good-natured joking and teasing.. |
