there isnt much riding behind what hardlyaaron found. it doesn't prove/disprove anything. i can give explanations for each and every one of those points. it is certainly possible that the writers are playing around with us but how do you explain Nathan flying away from them when they tried to kidnap him? i guess you could say that he lost concentration when he got hit, but he doesnt ever seem to be trying anyway. and my reason for the haitian not being able to dampen nathan's power is that he can only disturb mental powers by causing some kind of interference.
If HRG and/or the Haitian can only suppress mental powers, how is Sylar being contained?
All of their powers come from the mind. That is why everyone of Sylars victims were missing the brain. So its not JUST mental abilities that he can block, its basically all abilities.
I like EYEKANFLY's explanation as to why this could be wrong though. These are of course only theories and the whole cancelling out parts of the brain would make sense since it all seems to stem from there.
In my opinion the brain and the mind are 2 extremely different things... The brain being like an organ... and the mind being all the thoughts and knowledge and spirit and stuff....and when we say that they block brain based powers ... we really mean powers that involve the mind... just because the mutant gene is in the brain... we dont mean that theyre brain based... for example nathan and peter's powers are less brain based because they don't use like i dunno telepathic waves
He has the power, to not be affected by people's powers, or not have them work around him
Plain and simple
Its the obvious answer, and the right one
I am not sure that it is so simple. I rewatched the scene when Parkman is abducted and being studied by HRG. Matt tries to read his thoughts and HRG says that he won't be able to do so, as long as his friend is there and he indicates the Haitian. HRG directly gives credit to the Haitian for blocking Matt's power, however Matt is still able to get the name "Claire" from HRG's mind. It would appear that the Haitian's power to block has limitations.
I'm gonna have to take the low road here. He may be able to resist other people's powers (Eden, the Haitian, Syler) but he can't nullify them, and the Haitain only seems to have effect on mental powers because when the two of them had Nathan cornered in Vegas, he used his power and flew away. No problems.
I'm actually hoping he doesn't have powers. If every character ends up being special, I'll feel really left out.

I believe HRG's powers are "Nullification", since he seems to emit a "Static" everywhere he goes.

Hamsandwich makes sense, only thing that contradicts that theory is when HRG is talking to Sylar in his cell and he tells sylar how his powers wont work, well if sylar really can see what makes people tick he would have already known he cant do anything while HRG is there. Also Sylar only comments about taking his daughters brain, if HRG had powers he would have said something about taking HIS powers.
I agree with Dunkit2390 and as a possible explanation for what BYD says as HRG saying that as long as the haitian was there Matt could not read his mind the HRG tells Eden that she won't be able to use her power with him so it could be some way to keep Matt away from him and confuse him.
Im not quite sure if HRG has a power or not, so i'll ramble in bullet points:
*The first time Matt sees the Haitian and gets static may not be proof that the Haitian is a suppressor. I think the Haitian mindwipes people by exposing them to an empty part of his own mind. Like the story of young Krishna, his grandmother tells him to open his mouth... and within is all of existence. With the Haitian, its a void. He channels this void into people's brains to make them forget. What would it be like to read a blank mind? In the bar, Matt is just learning how to active-mindread, instead of passive-mindread. When he tries to active-mindread the Haitian, he Haitian just opens up the void.
*Did HRG always have his Horn-rimmed glasses? He picks them up from Papa-Suresh's desk where he may of left them..... or stolen them. Perhaps they belonged to Papa-Suresh and have some sort of power spotting technology. (Ok, I know thats stupid,)
*Perhaps HRG is like Peter, an empath. He can absorb powers and keep them for a little while. That may be why he was able to suppress Sylar in the room, because he was hanging out with the Haitian earlier. This could also explain Matt's inability to read his and Clair's minds in the Police Station.
*"I don't work for any organization uses initials." -HRG So what organizations are there that don't use initials for short identification? Navy, Army, Area 51(?), White House, Pentagon, Air Force, Mint, Senate, West Point,
***Here's the big kicker I just researched***
H.R.G = Horn-Rimmed Glasses, right? Is it just a MAJOR (read uber-MAJOR) coincidence that HRG also stands for "histidine-rich glycoprotein"? This serum protein is thought to regulate immunities and blood clotting. Sound familiar? At birth, Claire was supposedly very sick. Perhaps she had too much HRG, and Horn-Rimmed over compensated with some fancy medical technique, leaving her with her power.....

As I was watching last nights episode (Run-Episode 15), at the beginning they showed clips from the prior episode and I noticed something I had not noticed when I watched that episode. When HRG shot Sylar, Sylar was really knocked back hard into the refrigerator. It seemed to me more than the force that would have been given just by the gun itself. I mean, the refrigerator had a big dent put in it and Sylar just flew several feet into the refrigerator. It seemed almost like Sylar's own TK abilities when he throws others into objects forcefully. I just wonder if HRG has some ability that is able to amplify the powers of things in some way, perhaps making the force of the gunshot greater than normal.
