[quote="Nubs"]Hamsandwich makes sense, only thing that contradicts that theory is when HRG is talking to Sylar in his cell and he tells sylar how his powers wont work, well if sylar really can see what makes people tick he would have already known he cant do anything while HRG is there. [quote]
Not if HRG is nullifying Sylar's powers. In that case, Sylar could never use his power to understand HRG's power in the first place.
However, we know that the Haitian can at least block some powers; he blocks the cop's mindreading power at the police station and perhaps Sylar's power when he and Eden capture Sylar.
yeah but that would have worn off by the time Sylar was in his cell, and normally when the Haitian uses his nullifying power, they show him. They didn't establish that the Haitian was anywhere near, actually, this may have been at a different part, but doesnt HRG see the Haitian coming into the building right after he leaves Sylar's cell?
Ah... but if his powers of nullifications were working, Sylar wouldn't be able to "see" how HRG ticked.
I know Sylar psychoanalyzed HRG from his cell, but he could just be speculating, and not really reading HRG.
thats very true. I think it would be really interesting if HRG had some really CRAZY power that he hasn't revealed yet, and hides it from Sylar all the time with the Haitian, and for that matter, hides it from Matt too... really anyone that ever found out would have their minds wiped anyways.... HRG could shapeshift into a 20 foot tall Mr. T and for all we know the Haitian just massively mind wipes afterwards!
OMG i got it... theres no bomb at all.... HRG turns into a godzilla sized Mr. T, then punches the ground so hard it explodes new yorK!
Ok, I've got a theory on HRG's powers. What if his power was the ability to poison other heroes powers??
Matt Parkman didn't start having headaches from his powers until AFTER he got abducted. Ted Spraque also didn't start to have serious issues until after his abduction. And, Peter didn't start coughing or looking really sick in "Fallout" until AFTER Claire and HRG enter his cell. I noticed this the 2nd time I watched "Fallout." Like the second they enter his cell, Peter starts in on that nasty hacking cough. He proceeds to look worse ans worse as the episode goes on.
Except that he's around Claire all the time, and she's fine. And if you say thats cuz she can heal herself, he's also around the Hatian and Eden and they were both fine.
As for him nullifying people's powers, I still think thats the Hatian. I posted earlier that his power workd by letting him block off parts of people's brains, memory or power (we know from Sylar that the power is focused in the brain).
I don't think he has a power. This show needs more not powered characters. Plus, he wasn't in Peter's vision, which was full of other Heroes. I think anyone in that dream will get a power, but he won't.

Found this on the Heroes board at NBC.com

His ability is to dampen others abilities. (Its NOT the haitian) Its a classic case of misdirection.
Think about it.
1- He was safe in a room with Sylar in "Fallout".
2- Clair didnt heal from the broken glass in "6 Months Ago". (Her father was standing next to her)
3- Clair HAS healed at home but her father was out of the house. (The garbage disposal/hand jamming incident)
4- Eden couldnt control him in "6 Months Ago" (Yes i know the haitian was with them, but its one of the many misdirects that fool you on first viewing.)
5- He stopped Eden from entering the room with Sylar in "Fallout" (But Sylar pulled Eden through the glass when it was just the two of them so it wasnt some kind of "Power Sheltered Room")
6- Sylar CANT figure out that Mr. Bennet has this power because of the dampening effect.
7- This government agency that Mr. Bennet works for deals with capturing "those with special abilities". Who better/safest to use than someone who can dampen powers.
8- Isaac is always "asked" to paint by Eden.
9- Parkman couldnt read Clair's thoughts in the interrogation room in "Fallout". Nor on the stake-out with Mr. Bennet and the Haitian walking out of the police station. (Misdirection shot)
(I'm sure there are more. I'll let you go look for the rest of them )
Now...with this being said. Lets analyze the last scene of "Fallout". Peter exploding. Peter's the real mystery in all this. I think his abilities goes beyond just temporarily absorbing powers. My theory is that he keeps a little of each which will lead to his eventual explosion.
Ok...so Peter's gonna die....right? No!
And it comes from 1 key sentance in "Fallout".
Mr. Bennet saying to Peter: "I owe you my life."
How do you stop an exploding man? You dampen the explosion.
Thus Peter lives, Mr. Bennet dies and New York is saved.
So yes, "Save the cheerleader, save the world!" is exactly what Peter did.
[If this has been theorized already...i apologize for repeating it. I didnt do a search]
[[Also...please post examples of me being right OR wrong. I welcome both.]]
This make so much sense it is unbelievable. God, I hope this is how it all goes down. I think that the Haitian can make people forget, but Mr. Bennet can dampen powers. That is the reason WHY Mr. Bennett would be over the Haitian. This is awesome.
BUT why did Peter all of a sudden get sick when Mr. Bennet walked into the room? Another ability or jsut an effect of the two dampening each other out?
maybe Peter has started running off the energy of other heroes, like now he needs to constantly be absorbing energy in order to stay healty, so when HRG comes into the room and dampens his power, he doesnt get the energy he needs, which therefore makes him sick. plausible?
I like it. I'm not sure that will be the case, but I think it would be a really interesting direction for the story to go, and plausible.
Initially I thought the Haitian's participation in the capture of some of the heroes (especially Sylar) when we didn't see HRG around meant that he was using his ability to suppress powers, but he might just have the ability to erase memories and possibly render people unconscious.
I'm a little more hung up on HRG NOT being present in the bar when Matt could read everyone except the Haitian guy, and on HRG referring to the Haitian guy when explaining why Matt couldn't read his mind. Those cases weren't mentioned in the quote, but they could be explained as mis-direction with HRG lurking in the corner or lying to Matt, I guess.
About #8 (Isaac being "asked" to paint by Eden): I remember HRG saying that Eden is the easy way, he is the hard way to get Isaac to shoot up. It occurs to me that this could suggest that HRG CAN ask Isaac to paint, but I really think HRG only needed to get Isaac to shoot up. If HRG did it the hard way (presumably with the help of some large coworkers), he could then just walk out of the room when Isaac was "ready" to paint. (I'm so glad Isaac can paint without now.)
Ah... but if his powers of nullifications were working, Sylar wouldn't be able to "see" how HRG ticked.
I know Sylar psychoanalyzed HRG from his cell, but he could just be speculating, and not really reading HRG.
Maybe or maybe not, Ham. There is a lot that can be read from people just by their expressions, the way they talk, and the way they hold their cards. Just ask any good poker player.
Sylar doesn't strike me as the poker playing type, though.
If he does have a power, he may also have a side-effect like Matt and his headaches. What leads me to this? Peter was sick. We know that it wasn't a normal sickness because being around Claire would have cleared that right up. He only seemed to be sick in the presence of HRG (just like he got Matt's headaches). It's possible HRG may be really sick, but has gotten good at hiding it.
I think I can add to this argument
I believe that what HardlyAaron found makes complete sense, although this might not be how it goes down.
I stated somewhere else that all heroes need to CONCENTRATE to use their powers. Due to the nature of their powers, this concentration may be different depending on the person. Hiro needs to concentrate hard, Claire doesn't. Some heroes concentrate in different ways (i.e. Isaac on heroin).
HRG does have this "nullification" power, as we're calling it, and I have two reasons why I believe it.
1) All other heroes (or villains) have only one natural power (I say natural b/c Sylar's multiple powers aren't natural). Now you may say that some heroes have multiple powers, but this can be explained. ex. Hiro: he has teleportation AND stopping time AND traveling time. This all goes under one broad category of "bending the time-space continuum" (hiro says this himself). Since all heroes have ONE power, I don't see why Voodoo (as we are calling him) can have two. I can't connect mind wiping and nullification like hiro's powers. Any time powers are nullified, HRG is there.
2) HRG must concentrate (yes, the magic 'C' word) to use his powers. This is why he allowed Sylar to use his "ticking" power (not sure what we're calling that), but not his telekinesis. This is also why Claire, Eden, and Voodoo can sometimes use their powers around him. He sometimes blocks off himself and others from having powers "done" to them. (eg Matt, Peter)
GAPS in my arguement:
1. Nullification and mind-wiping could be grouped as "canceling out parts of the brain" or something like that. (I find this to be a really weak connection though).
Questions, comments, concerns, or constructive criticism are all accepted.
there isnt much riding behind what hardlyaaron found. it doesn't prove/disprove anything. i can give explanations for each and every one of those points. it is certainly possible that the writers are playing around with us but how do you explain Nathan flying away from them when they tried to kidnap him? i guess you could say that he lost concentration when he got hit, but he doesnt ever seem to be trying anyway. and my reason for the haitian not being able to dampen nathan's power is that he can only disturb mental powers by causing some kind of interference.

If HRG and/or the Haitian can only suppress mental powers, how is Sylar being contained?
