Now that Rose (Billy Piper) appears to be gone from the show I have MUCH less interest in watching it. The interchangeable side-kicks on Dr. Who IMO is more infuriating than swapping Doctors. The stability the Rose character offers is a nice counterpoint to the frenetic nature of The Doctor.

I don't know. I think that if you're going to have an adverse reaction to one character swap then you should have a bad reaction to both character swaps. It seems kind of ridiculous to say that you can switch around the main character but having them change side-kicks disrupts the continuity of the show. I completely agree that switching both characters at the same time would be a little much for viewers to handle but as it is this change really isn't any different from last year's one. When switching doctors Rose was the stabilizing element and now they're switching companions and the Doctor (David Tennant) is the stabilizing element. He's never had a stable companion for all that long and to be honest, having a single human outlast someone with 13 lifetimes seems rather ridiculous in my opinion.

I fail to see how a character with a non-linear-temporal perspective is a stabilizing force.
