So far, if I've really seen any weakness in the stories, it's been when they've jumped forwards and backwards to fill story, or spoil some storyline.
In 5YG, they made more questions than they could really answer, and honestly made quite a mess of the entire 1st season with that one episode. Hell, they're still dealing with some of the backlash of the episode in this season, and it doesn't really have any bearing on this particular storyline!
I'd have to say that the lame way they had DL die just proves that they can't really make a good excuse as to how he's gone. After all, I expected him to die thanks to some heroics he tried to do once he'd gotten more confident and cocky while being a firefighter. Not searching for Niki, and then winding up with his guts plastered all over Niki's face...
Heck, if they'd really wanted DL dead from a gunshot, they had the perfect out from Linderman's gun. Why go through an entire scene with DL recovering only to get shot once more?? Sure, Niki had to meet Bob, but she could have met him at home while DL was trying to recover, instead of at the hospital. I dunno..
Sad plot, bad idea, and stupid excuse for killing him off, IMHO.
Agreed with every1, VERY LAME. I really don't see what the hell the writers were thinking. They have done a very bad job with the Nikki storyline which is why I think they sent Micah away to introduce new characters and to kill off Nikki. It all ends neatly however they had soo much potential with this storyline and they screwed up A LOT. Seriously, I'm trying to think what was going on in their head to have something sooooo lame. The scene was quick and unemotional coupled with extreme disappointment. Even if they had Nikki tear the shooter in half it would have been somewhat of a concilation prize but nothing. And very stupid idea with this Gina personality. I've already watched the episode three times on DVR and i skip everytime this storyline pops up. I SKIP parts of HEROES! What are you writers doing?!
If DL had to go out like a chump they should have at least had "Gina" morph into Jessica and shred the shooter like a Cuisinart.
She couldn't access her ability, she had ben taking the pills and it hadn't been 5 days (the amount of time before Peter could regain his abilities).
This episode was inexcusably bad. And it was written by Tim Kring!
The Explosion parts were pretty good, but the DL part was lame, the Peter part took WAAAY too long to get anywhere, and the Maya part didnt reveal much.
I can understand finding a way to make Nikki feel responsible for his death and desperately want to get rid of her powers/persona but they could have done it very different and much easier. Jessica comes back and hits Micah or something, Micah runs away, makes an episode out of it. But have some greasy loser just shoot him, meh. and yeah D.L. had plenty of time to see the guy looking pissed off, gun to his chest, PHASE, knock him down again. He survived a gunshot from a well developed character while saving his wife's life even after finding out they were manipulated to get together only to die from a gunshot by a non-character annoyed he didn't get a lay that night.
but yeah think he is gone and it's bad writing. bye bye D.L.
I dunno. To me, he went through an awful lot of trouble to be worried about some innocent behind him. After all, he went from Vegas to LA just to get Niki back, he blatantly manifests his phasing ability in front of a dance crowd when he phases through the punch that punk threw at him, yet he just sits there and takes a bullet in the chest?
LAME
PURE STUPIDITY
If you're going to give that much story to him recovering, only to have him die like a dog on the steps of a dance club from another bullet, don't bother with this idea the next time.
Not to mention Nikki gave up her abilities and appears to be pounding on a door she could have easily knocked down had she been Jessica. The irony is smothering.
I agree that DL's death was lame. He could easily allow a punch to phase through his head, with little or no warning, but having seen a gun draw, aimed and fired did not give him enough time to allow the bullet to phase?
I don't believe however that he had enough time to rationalize that someone else could be harmed if he phased the bullet, or if he did have that much time, his decision was not shown. He certainly looked surprised that he was shot.
