I think one of the most important manga/anime references of all wasn't in the series, but in Hiro's blog. In one of his entries he mentions that Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (the Jotaru adventures in particular) is one of his favorite series. In the manga, one of the characters Jotaru and a villain named Dio both have power over time.

Also in HIRO's blog he mentions that Charlie wasen't his Marle after all (chrono trigger) but his Gwen Stacy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwen_Stacy
A blonde, bookish girl, Gwen was the first true love of the nerdy Peter Parker (Spider-Man). His adversary the Green Goblin murdered Gwen in the The Amazing Spider-Man #121 (June 1973). Both the decision to kill Gwen and the method in which Marvel implemented it are controversial among fans, but it is still a pivotal point in both Spider-Man’s history and in American comic books in general. Spider-Man writers and fans disagree about who is the character’s “one true love,” Gwen or his subsequent wife Mary Jane Watson. |

Obvious Star Trek reference when Hiro gave the Vulcan salute to Isaac.

I still think that in 'Six Months Ago' they made Gabriel Gray/Sylar look exactly like Clark Kent when he's wearing his thick black glasses.

After Hiro and Ando meet Isaac in Texas, Isaac finally starts to paint without using. what he paints is Hiro, with a sword, figting a T-Rex. I'm goin got leave it to someone else to find the significance in that one. the reference I know of is one to The Simpsons, specifically, on eof the Treehouse of Horror specials. Now that shopw is probably a referene to something else, but My google-fu is weak right now, so bear with me. After seeing the picture, Hiro exclaims something along the lines of 'What if I step on a bug?" If anyone rememebrs, there was an episode of the simpsons where homer tries to fix the toaster and made a time machine. The accidentally steps on a bug, and one thign is changed, then another, then another. an act from that far back could have incredibly far reaching events. Or at least that's the idea, anyways...

I would hate to be Hiro in that position. What if he does step on a bug? But what if he dosent step on that bug and he changes the future?

Hiro also reverences Spider-Man when he refers to the Texas waitress as his Gwen Stacy.

Then you have the obvious refernce. Hiros Fathers numberplate (and yes, I know its referenced elsewhere on this site, but am adding it for sake of completeness). NCC1701 Registry of the USS Enterprise, piloted by Hikaru Sulu... who bears a slight resemblance to Hiros Father.. *cough*
Also one I dont seem to have seen mentioned is Peters apartment number. 1407. Given that the series seems to have a Marvel Comics preference (Hiros' references to Spiderman, and ripping up a Superman comic), it surprises Me a fan hasnt spotted its the address of the X-Mansion, 1407 Greymalkin Lane.
Until next time... Excelsior (and yes, both the Stan Lee sign off, and the Starship. LOL.
