In this GN, we get to meet Donna.
She's a college girl with no real outstanding traits.
However, she's on a date that is going to leave her breathless.
She's met with this young man named Blake. She likes him. He's easy on the eyes, and she's not one to turn away someone as good looking as he is.
Suddenly, she gets a cell call.
A digitally altered voice warns her that Blake is a killer, and she's his next target.
The voice only give the name of "Evs", as in 'evsdropper'..
The voice tells Donna to fake a family emergency, and leave Blake immediately.
She does this, and goes back to her apartment, wondering about the night's events.
Suddenly, she can feel him watching her.
When she was younger, Donna was able to see things in the dark. She assumed that everyone could do what she did. Pulling a HUGE gun out of her purse, (one that was strapped to the underside of the table by Evs for her) Donna takes aim, and fires at Blake, injuring him.
Blake's partner is standing beside him, and drops her sushi tray, shocked that someone could see him from that distance in the dark.
Donna bolts down her stairs, intent on getting away, calling the police, something..
She runs into a girl standing next to her car. The girl introduces herself as Elle.
Elle then proceeds to shock Donna into unconsiousness, and reveals that Blake's real name is Thompson, and that they've been working for the company together for a LONG time. In fact, Elle even says that their fathers worked for the company.
Elle then proceeds to tell Donna that with her shooting, she's going to fit right in with the rest of the folks in the Company!
sets up a payback against HRG does it not? If HRG killed young Thompson's father.
They pair one of each - that would make Thompson a normal since Elle is powered... how does a normal survive a shot to the head? blood on hand on missions to heal people?
Was it me or did they make Elle look different? Anyways, I thought it was a good GN. Interesting new character with night vision, reveals a little more info about the Company. Looking forward to part 2!
Liked the GN. And I like Donna's power. Or at least how they introduced it ("I thought everyone could do it" seems like a natural response, especially with something like sight that's so subjective)...
FYI, "Evsdropper" is the mystery person replacing Hana in the Heroes 360 game. Just thought y'all would like to know.
I don't think this is "Thompson's" father. I think this is the same "Thompson" HRG kills later. So, yeah, it looks like they resurrected him.
As for Donna, she doesn't just have night-vision. She has some sort of enhanced vision with telescopic abilities. I mean, how the hell is she able to read test answers from her desk, upside down? That's a neat trick, I'd like to learn!
I hate the fact that she got recruited. And can't you see Sylar with her power? I bet she's a goner, early in Season 3!

It is entirely possible that the bullet didn't hit him. Look closely at the image. You see a bullet trail which passes through the night vision binocs, you see a bit of blood behind them, then you see Thompson's head, then a continuation of the bullet trail. Note the lack of blood (from an exit wound) behind Thompson's head.
My guess is the bullet went through the binocs, and glanced off something on the inside which redirected the bullet to either graze him or miss him entirely (with shrapnel from the exit cutting him and causing the blood).
So, as Elle points out, "he's okay."
Note also that Elle says Donna "shot at" her partner. Not "shot" her partner. More evidence that the bullet didn't hit home.
Definately not a coincidence that this guys is being implied as the son/foster son of the guy Noah offed in Season 1. This could get interesting quick.
Especially with the news that:
They are starting a long story arc in the GN's, beginning with this particular novel.
I agree that this isn't the Thompson we knew from season 1. However, with that little tagline from Elle, we DO know that he's going to be patterned after the Thompson we knew.
After all, we've got the ruthless Elle, just like her Father. Willing to put it all on the line for a small gain.
Then we've got partner, Thompson, who has dashing good looks, and is fairly knowledgeable about people with abilities. I'd say that if it's not a reincarnated Thompson, then it's someone who has been around this type of stuff for a while, and isn't surprised by much of anything anymore.
I'm actually quite interested to see where this "long thread of GNs" is going to take us!
Time to re-read some of the more interesting ones, and see if they've left any hidden clues...
I think that was a pretty cool novel - FINALLY, I knew we'd see someone with enhanced sight eventually

Each field agent is given a small hypodermic injector of Adam's blood in case things go terribly wrong, and they need the "miracle" cure..
I definitely agree with you, Jorm - The Company could have stockloads of healing blood for their non-special agents.
HOWEVER - I'm not so sure that the bullet went through Thompson Jr.'s head. Yes, we do see a little blood by his cheek, but that could have easily been attributed to the shattering glass cutting his skin. His left eye is also a tiny bit open, and there's no other blood on his face. Lastly, we see the trail of the bullet both in front of AND behind Thompson Jr.'s head, and the trail behind his head shows no indication of blood shooting out (I'm no physics expert, but I'd assume blood would be shooting out of the back of his head as well). Thus, I don't think Thompson Jr. was hit.

Yeah, I definitely agree with the natural response thing - and I totally like how Thompson Jr. was using a tool that Donna was born with (night vision + binoculars). Donna is her own aiming device.
And THANKS for that "Evsdropper" tid bit of info, Obsidian! Looks like HRG and Hana might be teaming up, someway some how?
Maybe he bought a copy of her at Comp USA before they took her off the shelves [/joke]

Though, I do think it was a male that shot Nathan, that's a great theory, Mad.
And, IMO, this guy is definitely Thompson's son. She makes a point of saying that he looked like "Collin Ferrell's... younger brother." The Thompson that HRG killed was definitely older than Collin Ferrell, IMO.
Thompson Jr. is either going to be a biological son, or adopted son from inside the company itself.
After all, what better way to train an operative than to have them grow up watching dad do his job?
Because of that kind of lifestyle, there is a good chance that the child could figure out new and interesting ways to "bag and tag" specials, or even come up with new ideas to be able to monitor and document their abilities..
You never know. But I do agree that this isn't the Thompson we know, it's gotta be a son whether by adoption or blood is still to be determined, but it's a son, no doubt.
its not really a debate that the guy is thompson's son. he is. thats it. its in the GN and its been stated by the writers of the GN.
Donna will definately keep on living, she is the focus of the next few novels.
I'm not quite sure why someone would need her abilitis to be Nate's assassain (would-be assassin?). I mean, the shooter wasnt that far away from him, anyone who can shoot a gun properly could have made that shot. Some people are saying Nate set-up the whole thing and was wearing a bulletproof vest. i dunno....

Adrian hinted to it himself at that conference!
While I don't think that Nathan set-up the shooting himself, I do think he was wearing a vest... hopefully we won't have to wait five more months to find out
