In this GN episode, we get to be acquainted with Brian, the programmer who was supposed to help Linderman lock the election for Nathan.
We get some detail into his background, and we also get to see what measures he took in order to escape the wrath of Linderman after Micah and Hana thwarted Linderman's plot..
Back to the beginning:
Brian was the typical starving computer genius. Unknown, but doing impressive work in some meaningless IT environment.
Along comes someone that Brian had never heard of before, except in tabloids.. Daniel Linderman.
Linderman makes an offer to Brian that he just can't refuse. Work for him, and make truckloads of money and gain power and prestige.
Brian jumps at the opportunity.
Once deeply ensconced in the Linderman organization, Brian gets a request to make things seem very cheery for a new candidate running for office.. Nathan Petrelli.
Brian accomplishes this with the help of a couple of other computer friends, and one New York city official who doesn't realize the depth of the campaign that Linderman's running.
Needless to say, everything SHOULD have been perfect, if not for the fact that somehow the program that Brian wrote got hacked. Professionally.
Because of this breach, Brian's life was forfeit. Nathan winning in spite of the leak was not the issue. The issue was that the operation got out somehow, and Brian was going to be held completely liable by Linderman.
Knowing the vindictive nature of his employer, Brian disappeared, thanks to the help of some friends and some quick thinking.
Keeping close tabs on the world outside, Brian notices that Linderman then dies shortly after he goes into hiding.
Using a cliche' trick, Brian comes out of his bolt-hole, and decides to hide back where he used to live, and hide "in plain sight".
Getting a cheap job, and making sure that he goes unnoticed, Brian decides that finally it's time for some payback...
It's time for revenge..
Now, personally, if this character becomes one of the folks we'll see in the new season, I wouldn't really mind. However, is Micah coming back, and if so, is there going to be some kind of confrontation between these two?
I'd look forward to that, mainly because of one carrying the grudge of having his dream-life taken away from him, and him not knowing that it's a child prodigy that annihilated his life.
However, if this GN holds true to form, Brian's going to somehow disappear well before the series starts, so we're basically getting more pablum. Something to keep us going, but not really give us anything worthwhile.
If they prove me wrong next week, then I'll be more willing to read the GNs from now on. But if my prediction holds true, then I might just stop reading those as well..
Time will tell..

Edit: Lol, Jorm, you beat me to the punch by 5 minutes!! So I've merged my topic with yours. For those who have read Jorm's summary and don't feel like reading another one, just scroll down past this post
The blurb begins by telling us about Linderman's former software engineer, named Brian. After the voting machines were hacked, Brian went into hiding because he was scared of what Linderman might do to him... until he heard about Linderman's death.
Brian then tells us the backstory of how he was hired. After graduating college, he received a call from Daniel Linderman, who said that he wanted to meet Brian.
He learned that Linderman had a big name, and Linderman made Brian an "offer he couldn't refuse," so Brian joined the team. His first job was to design the Corinthian website.
Things were going well, until Linderman asked Brian to do him a "favor" for a friend, a certain New York politician - Brian and a few others were asked to create a logic bomb in order to rig the election and get Nathan Petrelli elected.
The only problem was, they got hacked, Linderman became angry, and Brian ran into hiding so as not to be harmed by Linderman. With some help, Brian was able to claim a new identity, and was eventually able to return to his home (in Las Vegas). He hid out in the open, rather than in a particular place.
He got a job as a dollar black jack dealer, but his life continued to go down hill. He now lives in an abandoned nuclear fallout shelter. After discovering that Linderman has been killed and watching The Corinthian be demolished on the website, Brian has decided:
"It's time for me to get even." |

Pretty interesting novel, and for once we get a clear sense that this novel is actually going somewhere and possibly foreshadowing events to come, whether in another GN or Season 3 itself. This novel wasn't about abilities, and I'm actually fine with that. I feel that it's good to remind us that there are some people who are 'normal' in the Heroes universe.
However, we're never told why Linderman called Brian to begin with - perhaps Brian is a technopath like Micah... or perhaps he just got good grades in school... hmm... |

Meh.
If anything, I could see him still struggling to find Hana. Maybe even he knows something about Drucker?
After all, Brian's been in the employ of Linderman, who has the most extensive collection of information on evolved humans that we've seen with the exception of The Company.
So I'd hazard a guess that if anything, he's got some kind of inkling about what he's up against. The problem here is: What's he going to be able to do about it?
Anyway, that's just my take.. |

| Now after a completely meaningless GN this one got my attention. I think this could very well be a character that will be introduced next season. Linderman seems to be a reoccurring theme. I know he's supposed to be dead and all but I don't think we've heard the last of him IMHO. I'm wondering if this guy has some power and doesn't realize it? Also wondering how he got electricity in an abandoned Nuclear Fallout Shelter and how no one monitors it, etc. Anyways, I digress. So wonder why Linderman's hotel got torn down? Just because he's dead and what not that's kind of odd to me. |

| Crappy chapter. March 24 and April 7 will cover Linda Tavara's story. |

Que?
On the other hand, taken together with Wireless' latest messages, this GN by Brian could have some import, you think?
Did anyone else get the Wireless e-mail that said: "Brian's out of hiding" and then the one right behind it that said: "You aren't going to get the whole enchilada at once." ???

Actually, with that specific wording, I'd think it was Brian sending the messages.
After all, he was like that when we were trying to break his code in order to change his program for the voting..
So my theory is that he's the one that's found Hana's info, and is using it to his advantage.
I mean, someone with a vendetta against another, you'd think he'd use everything at his disposal to try and get this nemesis into the open.. including using their personal accounts and whatnot.. |
