So we start out with Hana and Drucker (or K.APILA<ENCRYPTED> and T.MONK<ENCRYPTED>) stuck in the mainframe, which is being destroyed by Elle (after having Matt N. copy the files to his brain).
Hana doesn't know what's going on, so Drucker, who apparently has quite a bit more experience with this sort of thing, explains that the data is being backed up. Guessing that the next step is to frag the hard drive(s), he tells Hana to follow the data stream, presumably to get themselves copied into Matt's brain as well. However, they hit a nice "Access Denied" wall, and get erased with the rest of the data as Elle zaps the mainframe with electricity.
Is this really the end of Hana and Drucker? That's what the title says - but is it the true end? (I ask because the "Death of Hana Gietelman" truly ended the life of her physical body, but she lived on in cyberspace thanks to her ability.) Maybe Hana and Drucker were smart enough to back themselves up before venturing into the mainframe? Maybe they'll return at some point? Who knows?
Anyway, after this whole mess, we then see that Matt's heart has stopped over the shock of the download. Elle freaks out, and daddy steps in to tell her what to do. She manages to shock Matt back to life (without so much as a "Clear!"), and he says he did it for "you" - I'm guessing he means Elle - then adds "You guys," maybe so Bob won't catch on to his growing feelings for Elle.
Then, poor Elle is shafted again as Bob brushes her off and gives her clean-up duty while being a nicey-nice with Matt. (Of course, he's just trying to keep him happy long enough to get that data back, but Elle doesn't know that, does she?)
Finally, Elle tries to allay Matt's fears as he gets ready for the procedure to upload the data back out of his brain. Poor Matt flatlines on the table, however, during the upload because his "body is breaking down under the pressure of the upload."
Elle is aghast, but Bob just wants to know what happened to the data.
Is this the end of Matt Neuenberg? Is that why they were ok to name him Matt - because they were going to kill him off in the novels, and never let him see the light of day on the show?
Or is Elle going to find a way to revive him? Another jolt perhaps? Or a few drops of either Adam's or Claire's blood? (I'm not clear yet on when the events presented here take place. Is it before or after Adam escapes? If after, is it before or after they get access to Claire's blood?)
We really see how little concern Bob has for Elle here. He uses her as a tool, nothing more. He doesn't seem to think one bit about her unless she is in danger (like when Mr. Bennett captured her). These "daddy issues" are really going to come back and haunt Bob in Volume 3, I think - especially with Elle finding people who really appreciate her and her abilities. (After saving them from Sylar.)
awesome "review" i agree with everything...matt cant just be 'dead' can he? brining ppl back to life sux =[
like i said....if someone is ABOUT to die, or fatally wounded...but not yet dead...then i'm a fan of using claire's/adam/whomever's blood to heal them.
heal=good
resurection= bad
oh but on the GN...i still dont know much about drucker...i guess i know as much as the next guy. i guess i gotta have a chat with popkorn heh...
i hope matt lives! its cool to see elle with a softer side.....
If Matt, Hana, and Drucker are dead, then I'm sorry to say it, but the past three Graphic Novels were garbage, not to mention all of the flow of info that Hana has continually received on her blog 8 months after her physical death, and all of her contact with Micah. In my opinion, we learned nothing new at all from this set of graphic novels. Nothing about Drucker (only that he was looking for a file), nothing about Matt (since he has an ability that we've already seen), nothing about Elle and Bob (since he's still treating her like poop), and nothing that will contribute to the series.
I hope next week's is significantly better... but I'm not counting on it
Another thing I forgot to mention is a major reason why I believe the past three GN's were garbage, and that is because there was no progression at all in any aspect of Heroes - not for the characters, not for The Company, nobody. The Company is in the same position as they were three Graphic Novels ago. The only differences are that Hana and Drucker are "dead" (yet, the were already 'dead' to the average Heroes watcher, IMO), and The Company has lost a few computers (but that doesn't matter, because they've already uploaded all of the information from Matt's brain). ~sigh~
Yes, Matt is dead. There's blood oozing out his ears. I don't think Elle would look so horrified if Matt had simply flatlined. She knows how to bring him back from that. Matt is gone.
I didn't like this GN. I think they're trying to make Bob into some sort of supervillain by making him seem like a soulless jerk. And they just shot their viral marketing campaign (aka Heroes 360 aka Heroes "Evolutions" *gag*) in the foot if Hana is really dead. How are they going to bring it back, especially if
the only other electronically-powered hero (Micah) will have his storyline end during Volume 3, as rumors have suggested?
Introducing yet another character that can communicate with machinery and/or the Internet? Lame. All they have left in that arena is Micah. They killed their other option off along with Hana. If Heroes 360 does come back, they'll probably have to completely change it up, like LOST has done for this season.
I say all this assuming Hana and Drucker are really dead, obviously.

After re-reading the Graphic Novel, I, too, think that that was their point. I mean, seriously. After all we've seen, YOU'D THINK WE GOT THE HINT ABOUT BOB BY NOW!! Lol. Maybe in the next Graphic Novel, we'll see Bob turn someone to gold.
Oh wait, they did that already. Maybe they'll do it again. And again. And one last time. And then again.
Do you all really think Hana and Drucker are dead? I don't think so? They were downloaded into Matt's brain with some part of them left out in Cyberspace before having hacked the computers. Now that they are back into the company computers, we will re-see them soon.
It is a good thought, but what about that huge "Access Denied" wall that they hit when trying to follow the data stream?
I think it is more likely that one or both of them had the forsight to copy themself (or themselves) as a backup precaution before entering such a hostile environment as the computer system of the enemy.
Personally, I'm torn about whether or not Hana and Drucker are dead. Part of me wants them to survive, just because I like Hana and I'll be seriously cheesed off if they end the Drucker storyline with that (I want to know why he hates the Company and why he and Deveaux parted ways when they were supposedly such good buddies).
But at the same time, I don't know what else they could do with Hana's story if she survives this. I think she's run her course. One thing that could happen is that Drucker survives this, but Hana doesn't. Drucker then takes over the 360 game and the story takes a different turn. I think it's perfectly plausible. I don't love it, but it's plausible.
There are several roadblocks to either of them surviving, though. One is the "access denied" they hit as they were trying to make their escape. The other is that Matt kicked the proverbial bucket. Even if they had gotten into Matt's brain, there's no guarantee that the Company managed to get them back out before he died.
If they survive, I'll go with Amby and say that they backed themselves up like the smart little cookies they are before they went in.

I couldn't have said it any better . It's a lose-lose situation in a way. Both outcomes have some positives, but more negatives in my opinion. The only way they could have avoided it was to not 'kill' off Hana and Drucker in the first place. But I guess it's too late for that
I definitely don't think they're dead, but just because writers are not going to be using Claire's blood this time to 'heal' them doesn't mean it's okay to bring people back to life other ways. They need to re-define'death' in Heroes... but we all know this already
Gah. All I can say is that the GN went from decent to worse in the short steps of a few graphic cells.
After all, if you're going to introduce characters, development should happen at some point in time!
Let us find out what Drucker's been looking for, or what Hana discovers, or how Matt is tested and evolved into while in the Company's care.. SOMETHING!
I'm really getting annoyed with these cliche efforts to keep our attention. They've deviated severely from the great story that they began in Season 1, and they're like blind folks in a burning building, to be honest. Each time I think they're going to come up with something interesting, they turn around and BLOW it. Or, they discard it without a decent explanation.
Give me a break. Get a story, stick with it, develop some characters, and catch our attentions!
this was quite possibly the stupidest thing they could have done. they not only wiped out the new character that was picking up some interest due to his ability being seen but not explored, but also Hana and Drucker wo were both definately holding quite a bit of interest for those of us who like to surf further into the stories by reading up on Hana's site.
